After the Jester’s chilling declaration of a worldwide purge, absolute chaos erupted. Fear swallowed the planet whole. People stared at their screens, completely paralyzed, while the Jester seemed to soak in their mounting terror like sunshine.

"I’m honestly very thankful to S.H.I.E.L.D. for creating these magnificent weapons of mass destruction," Veritas said, that unsettling, painted smile taking up the screen.

He took a single step forward, and in the blink of an eye, the background shifted to the open sky.

His hair whipped wildly in the wind on the uppermost deck. Behind him sat dozens of jets and hundreds of massive, automated air cannons.

"It’s a masterpiece, isn’t it?" He strolled forward as the camera hovered dynamically, showcasing the Helicarrier’s terrifying artillery before circling back to his side. "You know, about a year and a half ago during the invasion, humanity had limited options. Even with the Avengers fighting relentlessly, it looked hopeless. The World Security Council decided to nuke Manhattan."

"Sacrifice a few million for the greater good. Iron Man saved the day, obviously, but I genuinely respect the Council’s... cold resolve. They’re my inspiration, you know, and probably to many others as well."

"They understood something most people don’t."

He turned back to the camera.

"Sometimes, you have to cut off the infected limb to save the body."

[Public Comments]

[Kiana]: Wait, what the hell did the World Security Council do????

[Maddison]: Holy shit. Was that nuke really aimed at the city? We were fed lies this whole time?

[Caffeine_Witch]: I need to sit down. I was already sitting down.

[Purple_locke]: Alright, Veritas, that’s it. I’m leaving my current team. I wanna join your cause.

.

.

Suddenly, the two remaining Hydra stragglers ambushed him. One fired an automatic rifle, while the other - a snarling mutant - launched a barrage of sharpened fingernails.

Fingernails? Really?

A thick sheet of black soot casually absorbed the projectiles. Veritas slowly turned. "Ah. A few of you still remain."

He flicked his fingers. The ash surged forward, violently cocooning both men up to their necks.

"No, no, please!" the human soldier begged, thrashing wildly as the soot lifted them off the deck. The mutant just growled with rabid, bloodshot eyes.

Reaching the edge of the helicarrier, Veritas simply dropped them.

Their screams faded into the clouds below. Veritas snorted. "As they say: book a man a flight, and he flies once. Throw him out of one, and he flies for the rest of his life."

[Public Comments:]

[Caffeine_Witch:] Oh shit what the HELLLLLLLL

[Copy_Cat:] Oh shit what the HELLLLLLLL

[Maxine:] And there it is. The murder clown casually cracking a joke after throwing two men to their deaths. Standard Tuesday.

[Misa:] Come here, Funny Man, I’ll blow your kazoo 🫦🫦🫦

[Amaira:] Am I the only one who saw one of those guys launch FINGERNAILS at him? Seriously, what was he trying to achieve? Couldn’t even give him a papercut. If I got my hands on Veritas, my nails would be marking up his whole back...

[Noah:] @Amaira Unlike that mutant who fell to the bottom, his girlfriend would probably be reaching her peak if you know what I mean ;)

[Emily:] WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! AREN’T YOU AFRAID THIS MADMAN IS GOING TO KILL US ALL!!!!

[Noah:] The purge? Oh, I’m afraid. But not for me. For the monsters who live among us. For one day, I want him to succeed.

[Amaira:] Jokes aside, I’m scared too. But I have faith in Veritas. If he judges me a sinner, then I might really have done something that means I shouldn’t live among mankind.

[Misa:] @Amaira This girl gets it. @Lunaticia any comments?

[Lunaticia:] Pray to him. Confess your sins to him and accept his divine judgment.

[Noah:] Hey, look down! There are two more Helicarriers floating below the one Veritas is on! Whoa, so that’s what they look like. They’re massive!

[Xie_Bai:] Did I just see an American frisbee on that other flying boat?

[Emily:] @Xie_Bai That’s CAPTAIN AMERICA’S SHIELD! They look so tiny, but if you zoom in, you can see him fighting some people! Probably Veritas’s men. Hope is still alive, guys!

[Adorable_Filter:] @Emily I don’t think Cap is fighting Veritas’s men. Those soldiers have the same uniform as the two guys who just attacked him. It’s probably some other organization.

.

.

"Look at those two beautiful ships down there. Currently, factions are fighting for control over them," Veritas narrated calmly. "Sadly, one of those is entirely useless to me. A hindrance, really."

He slowly raised his right hand, forming a casual finger gun aimed directly at Helicarrier IN-03. A massive, condensed bullet of ash materialized at his fingertip. In perfect synchronization, every automated cannon and missile battery on his vessel locked onto the ship below.

He flicked his wrist.

BOOM!

The sky erupted into blinding fire as a devastating, deafening barrage of heavy artillery rained down on Steve Rogers’ flight deck, leaving the billions watching with zero doubt about the god-like power Veritas now commanded.

The world watched, a captive audience of eight billion, as the sky burned. The live stream was no longer just a broadcast; it was a window into Armageddon.

And then, as the first wave of shock subsided, something even stranger began to happen.

The fear mutated into something else entirely: a frantic, desperate wave of public prayers for mercy and confessions...

[Public Comments:]

[Jeff]: Veritas please remove me from the sinner’s list. I’m coming clean. I’ve attached video evidence and a full confession of all my sins. <video attachment>

[Jason]: @Jeff WTF you’ve murdered so many people. Dude just kys at this point.

[Eva]: Veritas please remove me from the list too. I beg you. I ’ve been cheating on my boyfriend of eight years. Here is my confession. <video attachment>

[Chulbul]: Veritas please forgive me too. I ran over homeless people eight years ago and framed my driver. Here is my confession. <video attachment>

[Adorable_Filter]: I have never supported Veritas. But today, I can’t help it. Whatever the Jester has started... I love it from the bottom of my heart.

[Ava]: @Adorable_Filter You should’ve added the word "openly" when you said you never supported him.

.

.

High above the Potomac River, the relentless bombardment from Helicarrier IN-01 onto IN-03 lasted for three agonizing minutes. It started as a heavy rain of artillery, but very quickly, the targeted flying fortress was reduced to a flaming, smoking husk.

Gravity finally won, and the massive ship began to plummet from the sky.

.

.

.

.

"BAMF!"

A cloud of purple smoke and the sharp smell of brimstone exploded onto the flight deck of the middle Helicarrier IN-02. Kurt Wagner - Nightcrawler - collapsed to his hands and knees, heaving for air.

"Haa... haa... cough Mein Gott," Kurt coughed, his blue fur slick with sweat. He had pushed himself to the absolute limit, teleporting 19 men in 11 round trips in under sixty seconds.

Combined with Captain America’s reinforcements, twenty-five men were now clear of the dying ship. A few others had managed to jump with parachutes, that they had pre-equipped themselves with to join up with the ground teams.

They had survived mostly because of their preparations and because those missiles and bullets were blasting on the helicarrier and not on the people aboard them. But Hydra men were probably burried or falling without parachutes...

"Take a breath, sugah. You did good," Rogue said softly, rushing over to help the exhausted mutant to his feet.

As Kurt caught his breath, he finally looked up. Across the airspace, Helicarrier IN-03 was a sinking fireball, yet IN-01 hadn’t ceased its relentless automated crossfire.

And then he saw it. A lone silhouette standing calmly at the edge of the attacking vessel, observing his handiwork.

His eyes widened in horrified recognition. Rogue followed his gaze, and her breath hitched.

Across the deck, Captain America’s jaw was set, his brows furrowed into a glare of pure, unyielding resolve. Nearby, Gambit simply flashed a wide, reckless grin, a playing card already dancing between his fingers.

And beside him, Gwen Stacy bit her lip, a strange, gnawing feeling twisting in the pit of her stomach. It wasn’t fear or anger. It was something more confusing, something she didn’t have a name for.

But she knew one thing for sure. To ease that feeling in her chest, she had to stop him here.

"It’s him... isn’t it?" Kurt whispered, his voice trembling slightly. "Veritas."

As if hearing his name on the wind, the figure moved. Veritas kicked off from the edge of his Helicarrier, a massive explosion propelling him high into the air. At the peak of his ascent, a wicked, obsidian scythe materialized in his hands.

With a grand, sweeping gesture of the weapon, the impossible happened. The falling, burning wreckage of IN-03 and the gun-bristling fortress of IN-01 both flickered out of existence, leaving only empty sky behind. That’s what the ash bullet was for - a non-contact teleportation of IN-03.

Veritas, now alone against the clouds, triggered an explosion mid-air, plummeting him towards their carrier. He fell like a dark meteor, aimed directly at them.

CRASH!

He landed on the deck of their Helicarrier with a thunderous impact that sent a shockwave rippling across the metal plating, the entire deck shook under the force of his arrival.
