After an hour of intense, coordinated pack effort, the massive pit was finally complete.

Lyra and Tala stood at the edge, guiding the younger pups and hunters on exactly how to weave the weak branches and layer the green ryegrass over the gap, following Nuan’s precise architectural breakdown.

From her high vantage point in the ancient canopy, Nuan tracked the layout, ensuring the camouflage looked flawless.

Selka remained crouched in the shadows of the very tree Nuan had climbed, acting as a silent anchor.

Down below, the final preparations were wrapping up. Koda and the younger pups diligently scattered the massive mounds of excavated dirt across the clearing, smoothing it flat into the existing turf so the terrain around the pitfall didn’t look unnaturally raised.

Just as the last handful of dirt was flattened, Nuan’s eyes snapped toward the dense treeline.

A massive, dark silhouette broke through the foliage, followed by dozens more. A heavy herd of wild jungle bulls was marching straight toward the clearing.

Everyone, get into your positions! Now! Nuan commanded through the telepathic link.

Every wolf’s head shot up instantly, noses twitching as they caught the heavy, musky scent on the wind.

In a flash of fluid grey and silver movement, the entire pack scattered, vanishing completely into the thick surrounding bushes and behind the treelines.

Not a single blade of grass stirred. No one made a sound. Every eye was locked onto the camouflaged patch of grass in the center of the meadow, tracking the approaching herd.

High up on her branch, Nuan quietly drew her bow out of her system inventory, pulling a sharp tipped arrow from her quiver and resting it against the string, her breathing slow and measured.

Within minutes, the lead bulls grunted, stepping out into the open sun.

Soon, the entire herd spread across the fertile clearing, lower jaws grinding lazily as they began to graze on the lush ryegrass.

Time ticked by slowly. Fortunately, the bulls were scattered enough that no single, isolated animal wandered onto the weak sticks ahead of time, which would have exposed the trap prematurely.

The pack waited dynamically for the perfect moment. But unlike their usual hunts, they weren’t waiting for the prey to walk into an ambush; they were waiting for at least three bulls to group up tightly right near the target zone so the flanking team could force them all down at once.

Nuan wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead. The bulls were excruciatingly slow eaters, standing in a single spot for minutes at a time before taking a single step forward.

Crouched deep in the thicket at the apex of the charging formation, Kael felt his muscles tightening with impatience.

His predatory instincts screamed at him to lunge, but he forced his jaws shut, repeating his mother’s words like a mantra. Patience is the key. Wait for her signal.

Eventually, two massive bulls wandered toward the edge of the hidden pit, completely oblivious, lowering their heavy heads to chew the grass right at the boundary.

It was an incredibly easy, tempting target, but Nuan kept her hand steady on the bowstring.

She needed the surrounding members of the herd to drift just a bit further away. If the pack charged right now, the rogue bulls on the perimeter would easily catch the wolves from the flank, trampling them in the chaos.

Finally, the spacing opened up. The primary herd shifted outward, leaving the two target bulls slightly isolated near the pitfall zone, though still dangerously close to each other.

Blue buddy, activate Pack Sync and Vital Strike! Nuan commanded internally.

Ding!

[ Activating Skill: Pack Sync. ]

[ Activating Combat Passive: Vital Strike. ]

Instantly, a warm wave of tactical awareness flooded Nuan’s mind.

Through Pack Sync, she could suddenly feel exact physical positioning of every single wolf hidden in the bushes, mapping them perfectly in her mind like a high-tech radar display without even needing to look down.

Simultaneously, Vital Strike caused glowing, translucent red targets to manifest across the grazing bulls, highlighting the exact vulnerabilities in their thick hides—the soft under-neck, the inner leg joints, and the base of the skull.

Nuan took a slow, deep breath. She pulled out a tiny stone she had picked up earlier and flipped it casually out into the open air, letting it drop through the branches.

That was the exact signal the pack had been sweating for.

Before the tiny pebble could even touch the forest floor, Kael exploded out of the brush with a fierce, echoing growl, the entire hunter troop bursting into a full sprint right behind him.

The sudden, terrifying rustle of apex predators launching a coordinated ambush sent an instant shockwave of panic through the herd.

The bulls’ raw survival instinct kicked in, and because the wolves’ charging formation was perfectly angled to manipulate their escape route, the panicked targets bolted in the exact direction of the trap.

The two bulls nearest the edge slammed their heavy hooves right onto the hidden network of weak branches. The camouflage collapsed instantly.

With a loud, splintering crash, both massive beasts tumbled deep into the earth, their bellows of painful agony echoing across the clearing.

Kael and the hunters skidded to a halt, not even needing to close the physical distance. The trap had executed them flawlessly in a single second.

However, just as Nuan had strategically anticipated, the remaining bulls further out in the clearing whirled their massive heads toward the sound of their fallen herd members.

Realizing it was just a small pack of wolves rather than a massive pride of apex big cats, the herd quickly regained their composure.

They tightly locked their shoulders together, lowered their sharp horns, and began aggressively marching back toward the hunters to stomp them out.

But Nuan’s defensive drills held perfectly. Instead of engaging in a reckless, prideful clash, every single wolf strictly avoided direct conflict.

They leaped backward, dodging dynamically, weaving through the grass, and keeping a safe, calculated distance between themselves and the charging hooves.

The wolves growled fiercely, bearing their fangs and holding a highly threatening, aggressive stance, making the massive bulls—who could easily kick a wolf into a half-dead state—hesitate to make a full charge.

Nuan tracked the movement from above, her arrow perfectly tracking the red target markers lighting up across the field.

Suddenly, her mental radar flashed a warning. A massive rogue bull broke away from the herd, lowering its sharp, deadly horns as it launched a direct, high-speed charge at one of the younger hunters who had drifted too far away from the rest of the hunters.

Without a single second of hesitation, Nuan released the bowstring.

The arrow whistled through the air before burying itself deep into the vital joint of the bull’s front leg.

The force of the impact, combined with the beast’s own momentum, caused its leg to buckle violently.

The massive bull stumbled, crashing heavily into the dirt and rolling onto its side with a loud grunt.

Seeing their formidable peer drop so instantly, the surrounding bulls immediately halted their advance, backing away a few tentative paces in confusion.

"Don’t play stupid games," Nuan murmured under her breath, watching them closely.

Through the link, she silently warned the pack. Do not try to grab its neck! It’s still incredibly dangerous even with a damaged leg. Keep your distance!

Nuan smoothly drew her string back a second time. She nocked another tipped arrow against the wood, her eyes cold and focused as she kept the point aimed dead center at the herd, ready to drop the next one that dared to take a step forward.
