With one of the herd’s strongest bulls brought low by an unseen force, the morale of the rest plummeted.

They were entirely unable to comprehend what had just happened. Yet, with two of their own trapped in the pit and another collapsing right before them, they hesitated to retreat.

They could not bring themselves to back down to a pack of wolves that easily. They kept shifting their weight, marching forward a step before retreating a step, trying desperately to scare the pack away.

The wolves held their ground, mirroring the threat display.

Nuan swiped her tongue over her lip. Well, we don’t have time for this stalemate.

She aimed and loosed another arrow at the injured bull trying to force its way back onto its hooves.

The arrow struck cleanly into the soft vulnerability under its neck. With that single, precise strike, the massive beast collapsed into the dirt, its legs twitching briefly before going completely still.

The herd froze, their stubborn bravery evaporating.

That was the exact turning point Nuan needed. They had secured three bulls as prey; there was absolutely no reason to harvest more from the ecosystem.

Nuan nocked another arrow and shot it straight into the dirt right at the front hooves of the gathered bulls. She pulled her string twice more, launching two rapid shots right at their feet.

Seeing these unknown, lethal objects raining down from above after witnessing their strongest member drop in seconds, the herd finally decided to retreat.

They turned their backs, abandoning the two agony-filled voices echoing from the dark hole, and disappeared into the safety of the dense trees.

"Pheww!!!" Nuan let out the heavy breath she had been holding as the forest clearing erupted into a joyous, victorious chorus of wolf howls.

The elders, Koda, and the younger pups broke cover from the distant bushes, sprinting over to join the hunting troop around the pit.

Nuan stored her bow back into the blue slots of her system inventory and nimbly climbed down the tree.

As soon as her feet hit the grass, Selka trotted over, nudging her sleek wolf head affectionately against Nuan’s torso. A remarkably successful hunt, Furless.

"Hehe!" Nuan giggled, scratching the wolf behind the ears.

With a soft puff of white smoke, Selka smoothly transformed back into her human form, and the two began walking toward the rest of the happy pack.

The moment the hunters spotted Nuan, they swarmed her, their voices overlapping in pure excitement.

"Witch, that was terrifying!"

"What kind of fast, lethal attack was that?!"

"Just a couple of sharpened sticks managed to bring down a whole bull!"

"The Witch’s witchcraft is far too powerful."

"I didn’t even see the strikes coming!"

Then, the young hunter who had been targeted by the rogue bull stepped forward out of the crowd, his ears pinned back respectfully. "I owe you my life, Witch. You saved me out there."

"Eh? Don’t worry about it," Nuan said, offering a warm smile. "But I saw you too. Everyone was so focused on the main herd right in front of them, but you noticed the few trying to ambush the pack from the sides. Even with my vantage point, I wouldn’t have been able to hit them all fast enough if you hadn’t done such a great job holding the line and forcing them to back off!"

The young wolf blinked, his chest swelling slightly. "You... you noticed that?"

"Of course I did!" Nuan cheered, reaching out to pat his shoulder reassuringly.

Before her hand could even leave his shoulder, Kael abruptly lunged forward. He violently pulled Nuan back by her waist, locking a possessive arm around her middle while grabbing her wrist and aggressively licking her palm to cover her in his scent.

"Kael! Stop, it tickles!" Nuan muffled a laugh, giggling as she tried to pull her hand away from his wet tongue.

Kael ignored her, flashing a deeply predatory, lethal glare directly at the young male wolf, letting out a low, territorial growl that vibrated through his chest.

"Kael, shh! Bad manners!" Nuan scolded playfully, giving his chest a light tap. "He deserves praise for keeping everyone safe."

Kael kept his grip tight on Nuan’s waist, his golden eyes remaining fiercely narrow as the younger wolf wisely took a hasty step back into the crowd.

Nuan let out a defeated sigh, shaking her head as she turned her attention back to the huge hole.

"Welp, let’s take care of the ones inside," she said.

The entire pack walked over to the edge of the pitfall trap, forming a wide circle as they looked down. The two bulls lay cramped at the bottom, their large, dark eyes looking up at the circle of predators, filled with terror.

"HNNNNGHHH... MOOOOH!"

"How do we even get them out of there, Witch?" Koda asked, peering over the edge with wide eyes.

"Idiot, we obviously have to kill them first so they stop thrashing," Kiro added, elbowing his brother.

Kael’s chest rumbled as he stepped closer to the lip of the pit. "I’ll shift and jump down there. I can rip their necks off in seconds."

"No!" Nuan hissed, grabbing his arm firmly. "Don’t be an idiot. Jumping into a cramped, confined space with two panicked, massive bulls—even injured ones—is incredibly risky. And apart from that, let’s have some basic respect for them. Even if they are our prey, I want to make their deaths quick and painless."

She pulled her bow and an arrow out of her inventory, smoothly drawing the string taut.

Down in the shadows, one of the bulls looked up at her, its breathing ragged.

Nuan’s expression didn’t soften. She understood the harsh reality of survival in this wild land.

Blue buddy!

[ Combat Passive: Vital Strike is still fully active! ]

[ Target Lock: Acquired. ]

[ Optimal Path: Painless, instantaneous destruction of the brain stem through the upper skull. ]

Thank you for your sacrifice, Nuan murmured internally.

She released the string. The sharp-tipped arrow cut through the air, piercing directly through the top of the first bull’s head and embedding itself halfway down, stopping its breathing instantly.

Without missing a beat, Nuan nocked a second arrow and launched it straight into the skull of the second bull.

The heavy beast stopped moving immediately, collapsing silently into the dirt.

Nuan let out a quiet sigh, storing the bow back into her system.

She turned around to face the hunters, dusting off her hands. "Alright, I’m going to give you some heavy-duty ropes I spent last night weaving out of those thick jungle vines. Tie them securely around the bulls’ horns and pull them out!"

Every single wolf in the clearing blinked, their eyes nearly popping right out of their heads in sheer disbelief.
