Mate Collecting System: The Beast Kings Are Obsessed With Me
Chapter 94: She Opened Her EyesEveryone’s ears perked up instantly. Kael’s head whipped toward the tent as he abandoned his fight with the giants and rushed inside.
Selka quickly walked to the tent’s mouth, peeking in, while Koda, Lyra, Tala, Syra, Nyra, and the rest of the pack swarmed right behind her.
Despite being terrified of the two giants just a few seconds ago, the entire pack surrounded the tent, practically holding their breath.
Up above, Amara and Zuri shared a long, relieved glance, their heavy trunks relaxing.
Kael quickly kneeled down before Nuan, his amber eyes completely flooded with hope. "Nuan? Nuan?! You spoke? You just said words, right? Nuan, open your eyes!!" He kept begging, his heart beating so loud it was echoing through the small fabric space.
"Furless...!!" Selka murmured at the tent’s mouth, her voice cracking as everyone outside began to whisper and mumble in excitement. But Nuan wasn’t moving yet, her eyes still locked tight.
"Nuan, open your eyes!! Look at me, I’m clean!" Kael kept saying, his tail wiggling furiously as he gently patted her cheeks. "Nuan, say something again!"
"You’re so noisy. Can you be any louder?" Nuan hissed. Her brows frowned slightly in sheer irritation, though she still didn’t open her eyes.
"She spoke! Nuan spoke!" Kael yelled happily. He threw his head back and let out a happy, booming howl. "Awooooo... Awooo... Ooooo... Awooooo...!"
Everyone in the pack got incredibly emotional, and one by one, they all joined the happy chorus, letting out a massive howl that echoed into the forest so the hunters would know their witch had finally woken up.
Even Amara and Zuri couldn’t help themselves, lifting their trunks to let out a loud, synchronized "PRAAAAHH!"
Inside Nuan’s brain, things were a total mess. Seriously? So loud. And why the hell is there an elephant screaming? Did they come to steal my blanket? Ugh...
Ding!
[ Host is conscious again ]
[ Conscious mind access opened ]
[ Host’s condition has improved significantly ]
[ HOST IS ALIVE ]
Yeah? And you were the only one left to contribute to the noise pollution, Nuan hissed internally.
[ I’m so happy, Host!!! I was dying to hear your angry jokes! ]
Hm? You can die? I thought you were some big digital deity... Never mind that. I’m not cracking jokes, tone it down!
Nuan’s body suddenly started shaking slightly as she tried to force her muscles to work. "Look at me! Please open your eyes!" Kael said, gently shaking her shoulder.
Ugh!!!!
Nuan slowly forced her eyelids open. But yep, she saw absolutely nothing. Everything was just a blurry, dizzy haze as the blood circulating through her veins felt incredibly heavy.
"Nuan opened her eyes!!! Look at me!" Kael said loudly, his face inches from hers.
But Nuan quickly clamped her eyes shut again. Ugh, so dizzy. Feels like I haven’t opened my eyes in a century. And now my body feels like a literal rock. Every single muscle feels completely stiff. Seems like absolutely no one did physical therapy on my body while I was asleep! she groaned internally.
"Ahh?! Nuan, open your eyes again! Why did you close them?!" Kael said, his face way too close as he kept patting her cheeks.
Nuan kept her eyes shut and groaned, "Did you swallow a speaker while I was sleeping? Volume down!"
"Sorry!! But what is a speaker? I didn’t swallow anything but meat!" Kael said, his voice still entirely too loud.
"Kael... indoor voice, please," Nuan murmured. "I’m sleepy. Let me just rest for a while."
"But you slept for days!!!" Kael yelled again in a panic.
Yeah, then give me more sleep for a while, Nuan cried mentally. "Miss Selka!!!" she sobbed out, her eyes still tightly closed.
"Yes!!!" Selka answered happily, poking her head further into the tent.
"Oh, thank god you are here. Please tone all this noise down! My ears just filed a formal complaint," Nuan muttered. "And since I’m sleeping, can you move my body little by little while I rest? I’m trying to wiggle my big toe, but even that feels like pure hell. So do it when I’m dog-tired and dead asleep. Good night!"
"Yesss!!!" Selka said, nodding quickly with a grin.
Nuan let out a deep internal sigh, the heavy wave of sleep pulling her back under. I slept for days?
[ Yes, Host!! After the cougar attack, you were unconscious for exactly— ]
Yeah, save that report for tomorrow, Nuan mumbled as her consciousness faded.
[ Bossing me around already? Sigh... rest well, Host. ]
[ You have to collect a lot of mates once you get up on your feet. ]
As soon as Nuan’s breathing settled back into a deep, quiet rhythm, Selka grabbed Kael by his good arm and firmly hauled him out of the tripod tent.
She threw her arms out, looking up at Amara and Zuri with an apologetic expression before glaring sharply down at her son. "Kael! Apologize to them right now! They traveled all the way from the open plains through jungle, brought the red root that saved Nuan, and yet you had the nerve to raise your voice at them!"
Kael, whose heart was still bursting with the absolute joy of hearing Nuan speak, didn’t care about his Alpha pride at that moment. His golden eyes softened as he looked up at the two giants. "Your Red Root helped Nuan. I spoke loudly to you, and for that, I am sorry!"
Zuri smiled softly down at him, her large ears flapping gently. "Do not worry, young Alpha. You were emotionally devastated, and your mind was not your own. We understand."
"But!" Amara interjected firmly, her massive trunk swaying with a heavy, warning authority. "You are the leader of this pack. Learn to control your emotions, boy. A leader who loses his mind to panic can easily put himself, his territory, and his loved ones in grave danger."
Before Kael’s golden eyes could flash with the sudden, defensive anger running through his veins, Selka swiftly clapped her hand onto the back of his neck, physically forcing his head down into a deep bow to hide his face from the giant. "I will definitely teach him a thorough lesson about respect," Selka said, flashing a bright, smooth smile up at the sisters.
Turning her sharp gaze back to the sixty wolves still crowding the perimeter, Selka barked out a strict order to the rest of the pack. "Everyone, clear away from the tent’s mouth right now! Let the fresh air flow inside for the Witch. Absolutely no noises in the central clearing. Let her sleep in total peace!"
A wave of quiet, emotional whispers rippled through the wolves as they quickly scrambled backward, clearing the crowded space in front of the tripod structure.
"You stay right outside," Selka commanded Kael, giving his chest a firm tap before she slipped quietly under the heavy blanket flap.
Sitting cross-legged beside Nuan’s resting form, Selka minded the girl’s instructions perfectly.
She gently took Nuan’s stiff hands, slowly folding and unfolding her arms, massaging her wrists, and carefully bending her knees back and forth to get the blood flowing through her locked muscles while she was dead asleep.
Outside, Kael didn’t move an inch. He sat directly at the mouth of the tent like an unyielding statue, his tail resting in the dirt as his golden eyes stared happily into the shadow of the canopy, watching Nuan’s steady, chest-heaving breaths.
