An artillery shell exploded less than two hundred meters in front of Gao Yang.
The flash and the loud noise made Gao Yang instinctively lower his head, but Joseph still held the steering wheel firmly, and the car didn’t even shake.
A large-caliber shell exploded two hundred meters away, and the kind of shock and fear it induced was not something just anyone could endure. Gao Yang had seen artillery bombardments many times, but that didn’t mean he could remain indifferent to explosions happening close by.
A piece of rubble flew a long distance, accurately hitting the front windshield. After making a huge sound, it left a fist-sized hole in the glass of the car where Gao Yang was sitting.
This encounter happened simply because Gao Yang and his group were too close to the targeted area of the shelling, and they were still moving forward.
Not many troops can continue fighting under continuous bombardment by large-caliber artillery, and the Shah’s troops were certainly not among them.
Therefore, Gao Yang’s order was to charge through, and the final outcome was just to charge through.
Once Rebrov gave the order to cease the shelling, Satan’s task was to drive through the enemy lines that had just been shelled and then completely break out of the airport, just that simple.
As he began to feel the relief and excitement brought by the sense of security, Gao Yang also felt a bit of emptiness.
The sense of loss came from Gao Yang feeling that the role of combat’s main body had been replaced by artillery.
Special operations are not about being superior, more powerful, or more advanced; special operations are just that—special.
Butter Knife, Cerberus, Satan, and Black Demon are already the pinnacle of special operations units, but any one of these teams, when subjected to heavy artillery bombardments, cannot avoid being blasted to pieces.
So, is a special forces unit powerful, or is a heavy artillery battalion powerful?
Now Satan has bid farewell to the past situation where they had to solve every problem by themselves. If a task was suited for a light special forces team, Satan would handle it. If it wasn’t, Satan still had to complete it with the identity of a light combat unit.
This situation would cause Satan’s role in many future battles to be secondary; for example, this time, the missile attack disrupted the enemy, and the artillery caused the main damage. Satan’s own team only performed tasks that had to be done by manpower.
That’s why Gao Yang felt a bit of a sense of loss, just because what used to require him and his brothers to fight in blood can now be achieved with just an order.
Of course, whether it’s missiles or artillery, they are all part of Satan’s own strength, but nobody likes their status being replaced—even if it’s replaced by forces under their control.
Looking back at the airport still engulfed in flames, Gao Yang turned his head and spoke into the radio: "Archers Troops, abandon the launch task. Evacuate immediately, over."
"Archers received, evacuating immediately, over."
The toughest part was over, and the missiles weren’t needed much anymore. To avoid the missile troops being attacked by the enemy, it was better to evacuate early.
Glancing at the GPS, Gao Yang said in a deep voice into the radio: "Fox, inquire about Justin’s current situation in Aden and seek a suitable evacuation route."
"Fox understood, commencing inquiry immediately."
After the call ended, Gao Yang said with some surprise, "Joseph, don’t you feel that the level of attack we’re receiving is a bit too weak? Shah or the Gulf Cooperation Council Allied Forces have significant military power in Aden, but so far we haven’t encountered any effective resistance. Don’t you find it strange?"
Joseph shouted, "I don’t find it strange at all. The Shah people habitually collapsed once again, that’s all."
Gao Yang shook his head and said, "It can’t be that simple, right? Even if the Shah people really don’t know how to fight, someone should at least think to mobilize troops to intercept us on our necessary path. But I haven’t seen any sign of that. Based on the timeline, we should have encountered enemy interception here at the very least. It’s too smooth, giving me an uneasy feeling."
Joseph shouted, "We haven’t even left the city yet! You’re optimistic too early and uneasy too early!"
But until Satan left the city, they did not encounter any effective resistance. Most of the sporadic attacks came from angry Aden residents, who used AK rifles to strafe towards Satan’s convoy, though it didn’t cause any harm.
Compared to those checkpoints and machine gun positions that crumbled at a touch, and even the empty Shah positions, Gao Yang felt that the residents of Aden caused them more trouble than the Shah Army.
Glolov seemed even more surprised than Gao Yang, and he kept muttering over the radio, "Too smooth, too smooth, could the enemy have gathered a large force outside the city waiting for us?"
Not until they were far out of the city did Gao Yang joyfully realize they really had smoothly exited the city.
"Artillery abandon all self-propelled artillery and switch to cars for a quick retreat."
Satan had already exited the city, and the artillery tasked with cover had completed their mission, so he unhesitatingly gave an order that seemed quite neurotic.
Rebrov almost pleaded, urgently saying, "Boss, there’s no need! There’s no danger anymore, why abandon all the artillery?"
"People are more important than equipment, also, the old goes and the new comes."
Gao Yang explained to Rebrov, but Rebrov still couldn’t bear to give up six brand-new self-propelled artillery pieces.
"Boss, really no need! We can take all the artillery back with us."
Gao Yang, somewhat impatient and a bit annoyed, Rebrov’s petty manner made him feel that all his previous teachings were wasted.
"We’ve achieved enough tonight, by abandoning these artillery pieces, you’ll get more and better ones later. What can’t you have? The Shah Air Force has already taken off, it won’t take long for them to reach the airspace near Aden, you must consider the possibility of them bombing the artillery troops, do you want to rotate your men again?"
At this point, Rebrov spoke weakly over the radio, "Boss, I have already ordered the artillery to abandon the cannons and evacuate. But, is it possible not to self-destruct those cannons? If the enemy doesn’t discover and attack them, we can come back and reclaim them."
Gao Yang angrily said, "Idiot! You can’t just consider yourself, you must consider our friends too, wouldn’t it be better to help friends sell more goods and achieve better results? The main thing is we still get a commission for every cannon sold!"
After explaining to Rebrov and scolding him, Gao Yang ended the conversation and said to Joseph with a huff, "Wild Duck, this idiot, seems my previous lessons to him were all wasted."
Joseph said with a smirk, "Boss, Rebrov is a soldier, and a very excellent artillery commander. Even you are an extremely outstanding soldier, the best and most capable, most considerate commander I’ve ever seen. At the same time, you’re also a shameless businessman! Don’t expect him to think like you, don’t even think about it, ever."
