After two nights of travel, Gao Yang finally reached Sana’a.
There was no other choice; after a storm of chaos in Aden, Saudi Arabia’s recent retaliatory sentiments had been extremely intense, with aircrafts constantly in the sky. To avoid being bombed, Gao Yang and his group had to travel at night and move in fits and starts, naturally slowing down their speed significantly.
At around four in the morning, Gao Yang and his team arrived in Sana’a.
For safety reasons, Gao Yang had never disclosed his exact location to Salim, fearing there might be an insider among the Houthis Armed Forces. Only after arriving in Sana’a did Gao Yang notify Salim of their arrival.
Even though it was early morning, Salim still personally came to welcome the arrival of Gao Yang and his three companions.
"It’s so good to see you, was the journey safe? Hurry, you’ve been on the road, have something to eat first, and then take a proper rest. Originally, Abdullah wanted to greet you personally, but meeting now would waste your resting time, so I suggested meeting after sunrise. We’ll meet whenever you wake up tomorrow."
Salim was still as exuberant as ever, and Gao Yang was indeed extremely tired. Running a few dozen kilometers hadn’t worn him out this much, but two days of tense car rides could indeed exhaust a person considerably.
"It was alright; the road was relatively safe. The only worry was air raids from the enemy, but there weren’t any major issues. The enemy can’t bomb every vehicle they see on the road."
With a smile, Gao Yang embraced Salim briefly, and then, guided by Salim, he arrived at the place he had previously stayed at. The hastily prepared food was already laid out, and Gao Yang and his companions quickly ate a few bites before drifting off to sleep.
After a sound sleep, it was not until past eleven the next day that Gao Yang woke up; he hadn’t been able to sleep so soundly in a long time.
He inquired about the situation at the Aden Front Line from those who stayed behind, confirmed that everything was safe, and promptly informed Salim of his intention to meet with Abdullah and Said.
This time, Gao Yang intended to negotiate for more benefits, not just military supplies. He hoped to get some other advantageous deals.
The timing was perfect for a lunch gathering, and with Gao Yang returning triumphantly, there was naturally going to be a celebratory feast. Some matters are better discussed over a meal; it’s applicable worldwide. Except for the lack of alcohol, everything else was typical.
Furthermore, Abdullah frequently changed his residence in Sana’a to avoid being targeted by missiles, so the welcoming ceremony wasn’t particularly grand. The location was just an ordinary residential house.
Everything seemed normal, very normal. Abdullah was waiting at the door to greet, and Said warmly extended congratulations and greetings with his followers.
Everything was perfectly normal, but if something seemed off, it was that Abdullah and Said had a few more bodyguards than usual, just a few more.
But given the ongoing war, having extra protection was quite normal. However, Joseph and Vasily saw things differently.
Joseph would always wear sunglasses when the situation permitted, as it was a professional requirement. In contrast, Lebyazhef and Vasily wouldn’t wear sunglasses, but the eye sharpness of these two aging men was beyond anyone’s imagination.
Abdullah’s smile seemed sincere, but Gao Yang felt something was off.
Because Abdullah usually never smiled this way.
Gao Yang glanced at Salim. Earlier at dawn, everything seemed normal with Salim, but now he appeared somewhat tense, whereas Said was still the same, completely showing no signs of oddity.
Said, being an old intelligence hand from Iran, showing any hint of abnormality on his face would be too uncharacteristic.
Gao Yang wondered what might happen, asking himself if this was some kind of dangerous banquet. But it didn’t make sense. Neither the Houthis Armed Forces nor the Iranians had any reason to turn against him, at least not at this point.
"Please come in, let’s dine first. Additionally, there’s someone inside awaiting your arrival. I won’t disclose their name and identity as per their request, but trust me, you’ll be surprised."
Abdullah seemed full of enthusiasm, and Gao Yang, after a brief contemplation, decided to step inside to see who this person was that refused to greet him at the door.
After all, something was certainly amiss; otherwise, refusing to come out in greeting was too disrespectful. Even though Abdullah called it a surprise, that was a line suitable only for children.
But what could he do if he didn’t go in? Was he to draw his gun and take Abdullah and others hostage? That’s absurd.
No matter what, even if it was an orchestrated dangerous meeting, Gao Yang had to sit down and take part in this feast.
With a look of curiosity, Gao Yang said, "Oh? A surprise? Let’s go in and take a look."
As Gao Yang turned, he exchanged a fleeting glance with Vasily and Lebyazhef, knowing they both understood what to do.
Even if Gao Yang hadn’t signaled, they would know exactly what to do.
Indeed, Gao Yang was curious and puzzled because if Abdullah intended to pose a threat, using such a method was completely unnecessary and pointless. If they wanted to take him down, dispatching a squad of soldiers to suddenly open fire would suffice.
Gao Yang stepped into the room, and this time Joseph followed him inside, knowing that originally, Joseph would certainly stay outside.
Standing in the room prepared for the lunch was a person with a bushy beard, a middle-aged man in his forties, white.
As Gao Yang entered the room, Abdullah, Salim, and Said followed in. Abdullah pointed to the man standing in the room and, with a smile, said, "This gentleman here, he’s also Russian, you might know each other, so no need for introductions, haha, haha."
Abdullah’s laugh sounded a bit insincere, and after he finished laughing, the middle-aged man smiled slightly, then extended his hand to Gao Yang and calmly said, "Hello, let me introduce myself, Sergei Leonov, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service."
Gao Yang understood, Gao Yang completely understood.
No wonder Abdullah and the others seemed odd. It turned out Russia really sent someone over, and this person was definitely a genuine KGB operative. If they dared to self-identify, there was no doubt.
Perhaps it was because of the commotion Satan stirred in Yemen, forcing Russia to send someone to investigate what was going on.
What was this? This was a counterfeit running into the real deal.
Feeling uneasy, Gao Yang waved Joseph away, signaling him to step out before extending his hand to Sergei Leonov with a smile, saying, "Peter Ram, stateless, international mercenary."
