Mercenary’s War

Chapter 2613 - 2589: No Such Case Found

Sometimes, even when you’re telling the truth, no one believes you.

Certainly, given the image Gao Yang consistently strives to build, it would be strange if anyone did believe him.

When Gao Yang and Sergei shook hands, the air seemed to freeze.

After shaking his arm vigorously a few times, Sergei withdrew his hand, then looked Gao Yang up and down and said in a deep voice, "Mr. Peter Ram, I know you’ve done an outstanding job in Yemen. To be frank, there’s a rumor circulating internationally recently that Russia has dispatched troops to intervene in the Yemeni civil war, even deploying missile troops. The recent missile strikes are proof. You’ve done well."

Gao Yang smiled and said, "You’re too kind. You’re flattering me."

Salim lightly coughed, raised his arm, and said, "Gentlemen, let’s sit down and eat while we talk."

Gao Yang was slightly annoyed, feeling somewhat betrayed, but he wouldn’t be particularly angry about it.

The Russians must have heard something and sent someone to investigate, which was bound to happen sooner or later. However, Gao Yang’s plan was to leave quickly when the Russians came to investigate, as his goals had already been achieved anyway. It wasn’t like he was making major sacrifices for the Yemen civil war.

The Houthis Armed Forces collaborated with Russia to lure him in, but Gao Yang wouldn’t be especially angry about it. The Houthis Armed Forces and Salim, whom he’s always had a good relationship with, value the help from Russia more than Gao Yang himself. If he weren’t impersonating a Russian, the Houthis Armed Forces wouldn’t have paid him such attention.

As for Said, it was certainly the same.

The Russians have finally lost patience. After all, Russia, Iran, and the Houthis Armed Forces couldn’t be completely unconnected. However, when a highly confidential Russian group came to Yemen earlier, no one knew what was going on and thought they were from other departments or even a Presidential Envoy, hence there was no urgency to investigate. But Satan’s operations in Yemen were too significant; when vague and ambiguous reasons could no longer support the lie, Russia finally sent someone to investigate this matter specifically.

Therefore, Sergei’s status is definitely not low, and he certainly proved his identity before coming.

Hostile intent is evident, and good intentions were absent, especially since the Houthis Armed Forces lured Gao Yang under the pretense of discussing military plans, which shows their absolute trust in Sergei.

Still, Gao Yang hasn’t reached a desperate situation yet, because even if the Houthis Armed Forces and Sergei set a trap together, they haven’t torn off the façade completely. If he returned and was directly surrounded by the Houthis Armed Forces’ army, then it would truly be an irreversible situation.

Gao Yang felt there was still some room for maneuver, so he asked Joseph to leave the room and wait outside.

Gao Yang had a gun on him, and the room had no other people present. Even if soldiers were hiding in the back compartment waiting for a signal, he would have enough time to take out these core figures from the Houthis Armed Forces and Iran.

After sitting down, Sergei smiled faintly, then leisurely said to Gao Yang, "Mr. Petram, we should be colleagues, right? Even if we’re not colleagues, we should at least be in the same profession."

Gao Yang laughed, then said with a relaxed expression, "No, we are not colleagues. I’m not even Russian. We’re not in the same profession, uh, I’m more like a mercenary, getting paid to get things done. Since what I’m doing involves warfare, I suppose I’m a mercenary."

Abdullah stayed silent, just focusing on eating meat.

Sergei exhaled, his face turned serious, and then he said, "But, why have I heard you are our Presidential Envoy?"

Gao Yang looked surprised and said, "Did I? Did I say that? I don’t think so. Have I said that, Abdullah, Salim? Have I ever claimed to be an Envoy? Sorry, I’m not familiar with your president at all, not even a bit."

Abdullah finally spoke, slowly saying, "My brother, it’s meaningless to say such things now. Sergei Leonov is from Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service. He has sufficient evidence to prove his identity."

Gao Yang waved his hand to interrupt Abdullah, then said in a deep voice, "Mr. Leonov’s identity has nothing to do with me, just as mine has nothing to do with Leonov. If you doubt the things I brought and what I’ve done, no problem, I’ll leave. Goodbye, everyone."

Gao Yang suddenly stood up, but still with a smile on his face. This time, several of the recently seated people became restless. Said loudly exclaimed, "Well, you guys are from the same country, maybe different departments, but it’s best to figure it out."

Sergei did not move. He said in a low, cold voice, "Mr. Petram, can you really leave? I don’t know your purpose, but pretending to be KGB — do you think you can leave whenever you want?"

Gao Yang smiled and said, "I haven’t impersonated anyone; it’s you who chose to think of me as someone. As for the aid, I never said where it came from. If you wish to think of it as being provided by Russia, what can I do?"

Abdullah was exasperated, loudly saying, "Peter Ram, we’re all friends. What’s the point of saying this now!"

Sergei waved his hand and stood up. He stared at Gao Yang and said, "Stop playing these word games. Reveal your true identity! Otherwise, do you think we need evidence to trial you? Or do you think trial is necessary?"

Gao Yang sighed and then said in a low voice, "Perhaps you should call the Presidential Office."

Sergei chuckled, then slowly said, "When I arrived and learned there was a Presidential Envoy secretly executing a mission, I was surprised because the Foreign Intelligence Service knew nothing about it. I asked many people, and no one knew about it either."

Gao Yang impatiently waved his hand and said, "I told you, call the Presidential Office."

Sergei slowly said, "As you wish, I’ve already submitted an inquiry to the Presidential Office, and the response I received was... no such matter!"

Gao Yang helplessly spread his hands, knowing he was truly in trouble this time. Sergei continued coldly, "Let’s not be sentimental, no beating around the bush. State your true identity, this is the final ultimatum, otherwise, you’ll soon be talking to me in a different environment."

Gao Yang reluctantly smiled and said, "I’m sorry, the response you received only shows your rank is... too low, so I’d suggest you call the Presidential Office again."

Sergei smiled faintly, sighed, and said, "Looks like we’ll have to talk in a different way!"
