Stepping out of the ward, Gao Yang let out a long sigh again.
Joseph looked expectantly and said, "Did you settle it?"
"It’s settled."
Joseph was extremely surprised, and he whispered, "So quickly? It’s only been a few minutes; I thought it would take at least a few hours."
Gao Yang smiled and said, "In this kind of situation, a few words suffice to settle matters, and if things can’t be settled, no matter how many pages you say, it won’t work. I know what Nate and Angel need; no explanations are necessary, and you don’t have to say much. It’s quite easy."
Joseph laughed, "Just fooling him."
"Don’t put it so harshly..."
"You were the one who said you were fooling him."
"Let’s call it enlightening—sounds a bit better."
"Okay, now you’ve enlightened Nate, so what’s next?"
Gao Yang whispered, "Go notify Angel’s group; they can visit Nate now. I suppose they won’t insist on putting two holes in my leg as revenge anymore. Later, let them say whatever needs to be said, and I’ll meet Nate again. Now the responsibility and pressure are on him, and I need to give him some hope and find something for him to do."
Joseph nodded and was about to leave when he suddenly turned back and whispered, "Nate’s side is fine; what about Rabbit? What’s your plan?"
Gao Yang’s mood immediately worsened after resolving one issue; he sighed deeply and whispered, "It can’t be kept from him; I have to call Rabbit. I’ll call him now."
Joseph went about his business, while Gao Yang, feeling heavy-hearted, walked out of the hospital’s inpatient department and went into a lounge in this private hospital’s office area.
Seeing Gao Yang enter, Shava stood up and said solemnly to Gao Yang, "Bro, how’s your friend?"
"It’s okay, he’s woken up. It looks like there won’t be any fights; let your men withdraw."
Shava was a bit puzzled and whispered, "If it’s a friend, why are there precautions needed? If not a friend, Bro, we could handle them right here in this hospital, no problem!"
Watching Shava make a fierce slicing gesture with his hand, Gao Yang felt helpless and said, "It’s fine; truly a friend, Shava. I know you’re busy, and there’s really no need for you to stay here constantly."
Shava smiled companionably and said, "What am I busy with, really nothing to be busy about."
Gao Yang sat down, rubbed his forehead, let out a long sigh, and whispered to Shava, "Are those bodies in the morgue in the cold storage? Can you find me some people to help make those bodies look as good as possible? Especially that woman—dress her up well so she looks dignified for her last journey."
Shava nodded and whispered, "I know I shouldn’t ask, but I’m really curious, Bro, what’s the identity of the deceased?"
Gao Yang let out a sombre sigh and said, "Rabbit’s girlfriend."
Shava was stunned, then exclaimed, "Ah! Rabbit’s girlfriend!"
Gao Yang shook his head helplessly and said, "Make preparations; when Rabbit arrives, it should look decent."
Shava immediately said, "I’ll go find someone right away. I’ll personally arrange it; it must be the best-skilled, and surely a woman!"
Shava hurriedly went to find a mortician while Gao Yang was left alone in the lounge, took out his phone, hesitated repeatedly, and finally dialed the number.
Until the call connected, Gao Yang debated whether to be direct or subtle; whether to let Cui Bo mentally prepare and gradually accept the reality that Lilia had died or to be straightforward and tell him the truth.
While Gao Yang was hesitating, Cui Bo answered the call, and Gao Yang, almost involuntarily, said, "Rabbit, you need to stay strong; Lilia... something happened."
Once the words were out, Gao Yang wished he could slap himself twice; he had decided to be subtle, but why did he blurt it out without any restraint?
Cui Bo froze for a moment and then trembled as he said, "Brother Yang, what happened to Lilia? Is she hurt? Is it serious? Not serious, right?"
Gao Yang vaguely said, "Um, she’s hurt, but it’s quite serious. Don’t worry too much, but if there’s nothing on your hands, you can come over. I’m in Kiev; I can wait for you here."
Cui Bo fell silent, and after a while, he choked up and said, "Brother Yang, Lilia, did she... did she die..."
Gao Yang wasn’t sure whether to continue hiding the truth or to tell it outright. His mind was a mess as he considered it but ultimately didn’t know what to do, so he finally whispered, "Yes, Rabbit, you need to stay strong."
Cui Bo let out a long sigh in despair and said, "This is really bad, really bad. I’m coming; I’m setting off right now."
Gao Yang whispered, "Take care; I’ll arrange a plane for you. Listen, it’s already happened; don’t rush. Have someone accompany you over."
Cui Bo choked up, "I’m fine; I’m... mentally prepared. Don’t worry about me; I’m okay, Brother Yang. I’m hanging up, hanging up."
The call ended, and Gao Yang, angry but powerless, punched the couch, then called Glolov.
"Big Dog, I’ve already notified Rabbit about Lilia’s death; don’t hide it anymore. Tell everyone; Rabbit will surely come. Arrange someone to accompany him; don’t let him come alone."
What can Glolov say? He could only sigh and then whisper, "I’ll accompany him myself, and call someone else too to prevent any trouble from Rabbit. How’s Nate’s situation? Sorted?"
Gao Yang whispered, "It’s settled. Make sure Eileen doesn’t slip anything; I used her father’s name to talk to Nate. Just see who to accompany Rabbit over here; make a stopover in Djibouti. Little Donnie already arranged the plane. That’s all; be careful on the way."
After hanging up, Gao Yang stared blankly for a while before letting out a soft sigh, "A chaotic season, a chaotic season indeed."
While Gao Yang was staring at the sofa, his phone rang, and he heard Joseph whisper, "Boss, Nate has met with his people, and he’s asking you to come over; says he wants to talk to you."
Gao Yang softly said, "Understood, I’m heading over now."
Joseph lowered his voice again, "They didn’t bring guns, so there should be no problem. At least you don’t need to worry about them putting a hole in your leg anymore. However, I still suggest meeting Nate alone for safety."
Gao Yang said, "There won’t be any issues; I don’t have time to do individual mental work for them. I’ll meet them together, settle everything at once, so it’s less trouble."
