As the sky and the entire Home of the Retired shook, Anthony simply stared without moving, his eyes narrowing, but the more he stared, nothing seemed to descend, just like how Kaxrak had descended.
Anthony’s eyes shifted to his system panel, where notifications were flashing that someone or something was trying to dig up information on him. Anthony didn’t need to think or guess to know it was the handiwork of the voice from earlier, just as Kaxrak had used the Deaths Record to search up his death count.
But Anthony didn’t know what the unknown being was trying to find, although he could find out. Regardless, he simply deactivated The Perfect One skill and tampered with no information, simply letting the being search up whatever it wanted.
The moment Anthony gave way, the sky seemed to still, as the entire Home of the Retired seemed to instantly fall silent. The next moment, the red clouds twisted, swirling endlessly as though something from finality was descending.
"Your opponent has been chosen," the voice came again. "Defeat the man known as Death Renderer and acquire your reward," the voice stated with finality.
As the voice vanished, the red clouds that had been swirling seemed to form a portal, and from the portal, a being descended with calm ease. The being was draped in nothing but pure pitch-black armor, his body seemingly existing between a state of ethereal mist and black smoke. On his back was a torn, wide black cape that billowed, dancing to the rhythm of the wind. His eyes were burning blue flames, and on his waist hung a heavy greatsword.
It was a Dullahan.
Anthony stared at the being before him without a change in expression, his composure remaining calm. Although the Dullahan, known as Death Renderer, gave off an insane feeling of pure death, Anthony wasn’t moved in the slightest.
Kaxrak, who was floating midair, couldn’t help but narrow his eyes, as he had never encountered this being since he started overseeing this area of The Sleeping Hollow.
"Human Anthony," Death Renderer spoke, his voice deep and ancient. "Your trial begins."
With that final statement, his hand moved towards the immense sword hanging on his waist, and with a smooth motion, he drew the sword and pointed it towards the red sky. The moment he did, the Law Of Death immediately pulsed out in a massive wave as it hummed, covering the entire landscape.
The next moment, the various corpses scattered across the ground began to rise. Bones snapped back together, bodies linked back together by tendrils of darkness, each corpse belonging to various races, their number easily reaching into the millions with pure ease. Even from beneath the ground, hands shot through the soil and sand as buried corpses rose, while zombies also stepped out from tombstones from beyond.
They stared at Anthony with eyes burning with hunger, as though they wanted to devour him whole and leave nothing behind.
Death Renderer didn’t speak, his sword, which had been pointing towards the sky, simply moved as he pointed it towards Anthony. The moment he gave the command, the undead pushed off their feet as they dashed towards Anthony with frantic drive. Although dead, their speed still mirrored almost what they possessed at their peak when they were alive.
Anthony already knew the Dullahan was using the Law Of Necromancy under the Law Of Death. Anthony didn’t bother tapping into his own Law, as he possessed the perfect ability for this.
His lips parted as he spoke in a calm tone.
"Come forth."
The moment those words left his lips, from beneath his feet, a pulse of raw darkness seemed to pour outwards as dark soldiers answered his call. George, Beru, Igris, Bellion, and millions of other Shadow Soldiers.
Anthony didn’t need to give them any command. The moment they appeared, they immediately dashed forward to meet their fellow undead. An intense battle spanning kilometers ensued. Weapons clashed and flashed endlessly, curses and hexes were sent out, and the dead that had just risen died once more as the Shadow Soldiers cut them down, while they themselves remained unkillable.
Explosions rang out in endless succession, the Home of the Retired becoming filled with dust, sand, craters, and shattered bodies.
Neither Anthony nor the Dullahan moved as they simply stared into each other’s eyes, letting their minions fight on and on. But the next moment, the Dullahan seemed ready to break the stalemate as he shifted into another attack.
With the Law Of Death still humming in the air, another Law resonated around him as he raised a hand. From his hand, the Law Of Light erupted. It contained purity, holiness, cleanliness, and love; it was everything opposite of death and hate.
As the Dullahan raised a hand, the red sky responded as it turned bright, the redness of the sky and sun vanishing. And from the sky, millions of golden pillars of light poured down in utter madness, crashing into every Shadow Soldier with pinpoint accuracy. The attack obliterated every Shadow Soldier, as they couldn’t survive it.
Even Beru and the likes were also wiped out. After all, they couldn’t survive the power of a Law.
Anthony arched an eyebrow. Normally, undead beings hardly dabbled with Light and related affinities, as it was usually their weakness. But, as always, there was an exception to everything, and Death Renderer seemed to be that exception as he wielded his Law Of Light with insane ease, his comprehension having touched the Embodiment stage.
With the Shadow Soldiers gone, the remaining undead rushed forward, but Anthony remained unfazed. The Shadow Soldiers weren’t dead; he could just summon them again, but since Death Renderer was showing off, Anthony decided to show off too.
He raised a hand, the Law Of Light humming around him as the same properties of the Law Of Light, such as holiness, cleanliness, and the likes, erupted. Pillars of golden light poured down from the sky as Anthony mirrored the move with ease.
In an instant, the entire battalion of undead soldiers was wiped out without Anthony taking a single step.
With the Dullahan’s effort to end the stalemate, Anthony had brought the battle back to one, as they had both wiped out each other’s forces. Silence passed between them as they stared at each other, as though neither was willing to make a move.
But the Dullahan seemed tired of waiting for Anthony to make a move. His hand moved towards his sword again, as he had sheathed it earlier. He drew it and settled into a battle stance, as it was now time to engage his enemy personally since using mobs didn’t work.
Anthony finally drew his katana, his eyes narrowing as he waited for the incoming attack. The moment the last tremor vanished and the entire battlefield returned to silence, Death Renderer finally moved, his body covered in armor shooting forward like an arrow as the earth beneath his feet tore backwards due to the force of his movement.
In less than the blink of an eye, he covered the distance and arrived before Anthony. Without missing a beat, he brought down his sword with chilling killing intent upon Anthony’s head, moving to bisect Anthony perfectly in half.
