Chapter 21 - A Lovely Entourage

Chapter 21: Chapter 21 - A Lovely Entourage

And she said, "I’m sorry." Clara’s voice was barely above a whisper, as though repeating those two words brought back memories she had spent years trying to bury.

Across from her, the psychologist remained calm, a pen resting lightly against her notebook. She studied Clara for a moment before speaking.

"So... the fact that she didn’t even try to defend herself is what makes you believe she’s innocent?" she asked gently.

"Yes," Clara answered without hesitation.

"Why?"

Clara lowered her eyes to her clasped hands, searching for the right words.

"Because... it’s Ashley," she finally said. "Whenever she’s deeply hurt, she doesn’t defend herself. She just... shuts down. I saw it in her eyes. She wasn’t lying."

The psychologist nodded thoughtfully before leaning back in her chair.

"Okay. Earlier, you told me that the only time you think about Ashley is when you’re intimate with your husband." She paused, choosing her next words carefully. "Don’t you think your fixation on her might be clouding your judgment?"

Clara remained silent.

"You were devastated by her disappearance," the psychologist continued. "You fell into a depression that lasted nearly two years. Now she’s suddenly back, claiming she was kidnapped, and you believed her almost immediately."

She folded her hands together.

"At the same time, you’ve told me she doesn’t look like someone who spent two years being held captive. And you’ve also seen recent photos of her sunbathing in a very relaxed outfit."

The room fell quiet.

For the first time since she’d walked into the office, Clara hesitated.

The psychologist had a point.

She realized that, deep down, she wanted to believe Ashley no matter what. Ashley could probably tell her almost anything, and Clara would accept it without question.

Yet...

She couldn’t forget the look on Ashley’s face.

That broken expression.

The quiet pain hidden behind her eyes.

Ashley had always carried herself as though something inside her had been shattered beyond repair. Clara had seen it years ago, and she’d seen it again that day. She hadn’t known how to fix it then, and she still didn’t know now.

Maybe that was why she hadn’t moved when Ashley hugged her.

Maybe she’d frozen because, once again, she felt completely powerless.

Still...

The psychologist had a point.

She always did.

"Let’s talk about your marriage," the psychologist said, breaking the silence. "Do you think it’s fair to your husband that you’re fantasizing about someone else whenever you’re intimate together?"

Clara shrugged.

"He knew I was gay before he asked me to marry him," she replied. "So no... I don’t think it’s unfair, as long as I’m not cheating."

"I understand," the psychologist said with a small nod. "But doesn’t the fact that the person you’re fantasizing about is also the one who hurt you make it harder for you to move on?"

Clara let out a dry laugh.

"So what? You think I should start fantasizing about someone else instead?"

"I don’t know," the psychologist admitted. "But since you don’t seem particularly concerned about your husband’s feelings in this situation, maybe the two of you should explore ways to strengthen your relationship together."

Clara raised an eyebrow.

"Like what?"

"Well..." The psychologist smiled faintly. "Some couples like to spice things up. Open relationships work for some people. Others try role-playing, threesomes... things like that. It really depends on the couple."

Clara blinked in surprise before letting out an amused laugh.

"Damn, Doc," she said with a grin. "I didn’t realize they taught that in psychology school."

A faint smile appeared on the psychologist’s face.

"They don’t," she replied. "But they do teach us that every relationship is different."

"I’m sorry, but I can’t do that," Roger, Chloe’s partner, replied when Ashley offered him money to investigate her disappearance. "The case has been closed for a long time, and I’m busy with another investigation right now," Roger added.

"Come on, babe, you’re the only one who can help Ashley clear her name," Chloe interjected, putting on a pleading expression to persuade her partner.

"I really wish I could, but I can’t," Roger replied.

"Listen, I really appreciate you, Ashley, but unfortunately, I can’t help you."

"However, maybe I can show you all the files we have on the case, and you can figure it out. But if I can give you some advice, you’d better drop this whole thing because we know what the person who trapped you is capable of," Roger explained.

---

In a tall building, specifically in an office almost on the top floor, a woman was under a man’s desk giving him oral sex.

"I can’t believe she actually had the nerve to suggest that," Dylan ,Clara’s husband complained as he sat in his office chair.

The brunette pulled away and said, "Shouldn’t that work out in your favor? Now it won’t matter if she finds out about us. I mean, you’ll have a lot more freedom to carry out your plan."

Then the woman slipped Dylan’s cock back into her mouth, sucking on the tip while stroking him with her hand in perfect sync, her movements smooth and steady.

"No, you don’t understand," Dylan said. "If we do that, it’ll only push her further away. I was counting on her being too miserable to think clearly."

Dylan tilted his head back, savoring the pleasure of her soft, full lips wrapped around him.

He then gently took hold of the woman’s head and pushed himself deeper until he finally came in his partner’s mouth.

Without hesitation, she swallowed everything, leaving no trace behind.

She finally crawled out from under the desk and kissed Dylan deeply with the same mouth that had just been pleasuring him.

After quickly fixing her appearance, she walked out of the office.

She took the elevator to the top floor.

"Good afternoon, Marguerite. Is my sister-in-law in her office?" Lucinda asked as she stepped into Clara’s department.

Marguerite looked up from her desk and greeted her with a polite smile.

"Good afternoon, Mrs. Lucinda. Yes, she’s inside."

"Thank you."

Lucinda offered her a friendly nod before walking down the hallway. A few seconds later, she reached Clara’s office and knocked lightly on the open door.

"Clara!" she called warmly before leaning in to greet her with a kiss on the cheek.

"Lucinda. To what do I owe the pleasure of seeing my wonderful sister-in-law?" Clara asked with a smile.

Lucinda was married to Clara’s older brother, Carl .

To Clara, Lucinda was warm, outgoing, and genuinely kind the complete opposite of her brother.

She had often wondered how someone as sweet as Lucinda had fallen in love with Carl. If Lucinda hadn’t come from a wealthy family whose children never had to work because they were financially secure for life, Clara might have assumed she’d married him for his money.

"Your nephew keeps begging me to let him spend time with you," Lucinda said, her tone completely different from the one she’d used with Dylan. "The other day, he told me that last time you took him somewhere fun to play. I don’t know what to do with him anymore. Would you mind watching him on Saturday afternoon?"

"Not a problem," Clara replied with a laugh. "I’d better spend some time with him before he grows up to be as big of an jerk as his father."

She said it jokingly, but there was more truth behind those words than she would ever admit.

Clara firmly believed someone had to teach her three-year-old nephew some manners before he turned into another Carl Turner.

Besides, the little boy was easily the least irritating member of her family.

"You’ve got something on your cheek," Clara said as she reached over and gently brushed it away with her thumb.

"Thanks," Lucinda replied with a bright smile.

"It’s probably mayonnaise from the fries I had for lunch."

Clara chuckled.

"Oh, it’s been ages since I’ve had fries. Now you’ve got me craving some."

She had no idea Lucinda was lying or that the "fries" she was was referring to had nothing to do with food.

"You should. They’re delicious," Lucinda replied, slowly licking her lips with a faint, unreadable smile.
