Chapter 43: Chapter 43 - Elena Lenner
Every morning, before the city was fully awake, Elena Lenner was already up.
At exactly 6:45 a.m., she unlocked the bookstore where she had worked for almost two years.
Click.
The door opened with a soft creak.
Elena stepped inside, placed her bag behind the counter, and switched on the lights. The large bookstore was silent, filled only with the familiar scent of paper and old wood.
She loved this quiet time because it allowed her to focus on her passion: writing.
She had loved reading since childhood and had eventually decided to write her own stories. The problem was that she could never find an idea she liked enough to finish. She had started several books, only to abandon them halfway through.
This time, she wanted to see it through.
Once it was finished, she planned to publish it online and hopefully make some money from it.
Elena pulled out her laptop and opened her manuscript.
Her story was about a twenty-one-year-old brunette bookstore clerk, just like herself, who caught the attention of a wealthy, handsome man who regularly visited the bookstore.
He was tall, dark-haired, with hazel eyes, flawless skin, and a body that looked almost sculpted by Apollo himself.
He was also always accompanied by his one-year-old son.
He was a single father whose wife had died in a tragic accident.
Elena was typing another sentence when a voice came from behind her.
"Can I finally read your book?"
Angela, another young bookstore employee, leaned over her shoulder.
Elena immediately snapped her laptop shut.
"No! I told you, there’s nothing interesting in it."
Angela had been asking to read Elena’s story for weeks, but Elena was too embarrassed. The story was heavily inspired by her own life and the bookstore where they worked.
Worse, Angela might discover some of the more... intimate scenes Elena had written, including ones involving the counter, reading tables, and other places around the bookstore.
"Okay, calm down," Angela said, raising her hands. "If you don’t want me to read it, you can just say so."
Her voice carried a hint of hurt.
Elena sighed.
"Listen, I’m sorry. I just don’t want you reading what I’m writing because it’s... embarrassing. And kind of personal."
Angela stared at her for a moment before shrugging.
"Fine. I won’t try to read it anymore."
They spent the next few minutes arranging books and cleaning the shelves before customers began arriving.
About thirty minutes later, people started coming in. Some browsed the shelves, while others stayed to read.
Elena’s job wasn’t difficult. It could be boring, but she actually liked that. It gave her plenty of quiet moments to write.
Once things settled down, she returned to the front desk and continued working on her novel.
She had barely typed a few words when a woman stopped at the counter, carrying a little girl.
Elena immediately smiled.
"Ashley! And little Ashley! Welcome. What can I help you with?"
It was Ashley. That day, she was babysitting little Ashley, her friend Chloe’s daughter.
"Hi, Elena. I wanted to take little Ashley to the park, but apparently, the only thing she wants to do is listen to stories." Ashley glanced down at the little girl. "Do you have a children’s book you could recommend?"
Elena reached beneath the counter and pulled out a book she’d kept there.
She’d had a feeling Ashley might stop by.
"Here. It’s about a beautiful princess duck who gets kidnapped by an evil monster, but a brave knight duck comes to rescue her and eventually marries her. I’m sure little Ashley will love it."
She handed the book to Ashley.
"Thank you so much."
Ashley smiled.
It was such a bright smile that Elena momentarily forgot what she was doing.
As Ashley turned around, Elena couldn’t help admiring her figure in those jeans.
Even though Elena considered herself straight, for a brief second, she wondered what it would be like to end up in bed with someone as beautiful as Ashley.
It was probably the dirty scenes she’d been writing lately messing with her head.
Besides, she had a boyfriend.
Well... technically.
They’d been together for almost a year, and their relationship was open. Deep down, Elena suspected the arrangement was mostly her boyfriend’s excuse to see other women.
"Ugh. Seeing a woman that gorgeous first thing in the morning is ruining my day," Angela jokingly complained as she returned after finishing the shelves. "I thought I looked pretty damn good today."
Elena laughed.
"Maybe she’s famous or something."
Something clicked inside Elena’s mind.
She had never considered that possibility.
"Excuse me. I need to use the bathroom."
Before Angela could respond, Elena grabbed her phone and hurried to the employees’ restroom.
She locked the door and pulled out her phone.
Looking up a customer’s personal life wasn’t exactly appropriate, but she’d used Ashley as inspiration for her female lead.
That was all.
Nothing more.
Elena typed Ashley’s name into Instagram.
After scrolling for a while, she found the account she was looking for.
She had barely started browsing when Angela called from outside.
"Elena! Are you going to be much longer?"
"No! I’m coming!"
Elena quickly locked her phone and stepped out.
She’d have to wait until her break to properly look through Ashley’s account.
Later, Ashley returned to the counter with the little girl.
"You were right," she said. "She loved the book. Thank you so much."
"You’re welcome."
Elena smiled as they walked away.
She returned to her station and continued working.
After work, Elena didn’t go straight home.
Instead, she went to see her boyfriend—or at least, the man she’d thought was her boyfriend.
He hadn’t called or answered any of her messages for two days.
Elena already knew their relationship wasn’t going anywhere, but she hadn’t been looking for anything serious either. Their open relationship had worked perfectly well for her.
She reached his apartment and knocked.
Knock. Knock.
Nearly a minute passed.
No one opened the door.
Elena frowned and called him again while knocking once more.
Ten seconds later, the door finally opened.
Her boyfriend stepped outside and immediately took her by the hand, pulling her away from the doorway.
"Why didn’t you answer my calls? You could’ve told me on the phone if you were busy," Elena said.
"I wanted to answer you, but she took my phone and told me not to talk to you anymore."
He glanced nervously back toward the apartment.
Elena stared at him in confusion.
"Okay... I’m a bit confused. Who doesn’t want you talking to me?"
"My girlfriend."
Elena blinked.
"The last time I checked, I thought I was your girlfriend."
"Yeah... about that."
He rubbed the back of his neck.
"I think we should break up."
Elena stared at him.
"I met someone else. And I’m ready for a serious relationship with her."
He hesitated.
"I’m sorry you had to find out like this."
"Don’t be."
Elena gave him a small, almost indifferent smile.
"Honestly, I already knew this wasn’t going to last."
She turned and walked away.
Only a few steps later did reality sink in.
She was single again.
Elena knew she could easily find another guy, but she also knew it probably wouldn’t last. She simply wasn’t the kind of person who got attached easily.
Even her family complained that she barely visited and could go months without calling.
By the time she got home, her mood had crashed.
She grabbed something to eat and went to bed, even though it was still early.
But sleep wouldn’t come.
Instead, she decided to continue writing her book until she felt sleepy.
Then she remembered Ashley.
Elena reached for her phone and opened Ashley’s Instagram account.
She scrolled through Ashley’s posts—pictures, videos, and little moments from her life.
Before long, Elena found herself surprisingly invested. She read the comments beneath almost every post, searching for anything she might have missed.
She wasn’t sure why she was so interested.
Maybe it was because Ashley had become the inspiration for her character.
That was all.
She kept scrolling.
Then she stopped.
There was a link leading to several photos of Ashley wearing very sexy lingerie.
Elena stared at the screen.
She hadn’t expected to find something like that, but she decided to look anyway.
She was surprised. She had never seen this side of Ashley before.
Almost without thinking, she started zooming in on the photos.
This wasn’t part of her plan, but she couldn’t seem to stop herself.
She glanced around nervously, afraid someone might catch her, even though she was completely alone in her bedroom in the middle of the night.
Then, almost unconsciously, she slipped her right hand into her panties and began touching herself while staring at a photo of Ashley on her knees, looking straight at the camera with her beautiful eyes.
Elena was having an internal conflict.
One part of her wondered, " What the hell am I doing? "
while the other whispered, " Don’t stop. It feels so good."
Since her hand was already there, she thought, Why not finish and deal with the regret later?
So she continued, staring at Ashley’s photos and imagining what would happen if Ashley climbed into her bed at that very moment.
She often masturbated while watching porn, but this was the most intense experience she’d ever had.
She even took off her panties to get more comfortable and imagined Ashley’s fingers penetrating her pussy. And she felt so good.
After her orgasm, she lay there, still trying to process what had just happened.
She could hardly believe she’d actually done it.
But she didn’t regret it.
Not even a little.
And then it hit her.
"Okay... I might not be as straight as I thought."she thought.
