Chapter 44: Chapter 44 - The stalker gets stalked
The night was particularly long for Elena. She barely slept, unable to get one thought out of her head: what if she was actually bisexual?
At first, she had tried to convince herself she wasn’t. It was just a crush on Ashley. Nothing more.
But another question soon came to mind.
Had she ever felt this way about a guy?
She thought about it for a long time.
The answer was simple: no one.
Never.
As strange as it seemed, Elena had never actually had a crush on a man. Ashley was her first real crush.
Around three in the morning, she picked up her phone again and opened Ashley’s pictures.
She knew she should stop.
She just couldn’t.
Every time she saw Ashley’s face, an immense feeling of happiness washed over her, and she couldn’t explain why.
"God..."
She finally put her phone down.
"Enough."
She had work in the morning.
---
At the bookstore, Elena made a decision: today, she was going to forget about Ashley.
Well... as much as possible.
She focused on her work and her writing and, for a few hours, almost managed not to think about Ashley or the fact that she had just experienced the best orgasm of her life while thinking about her.
Then the urge to check her phone became too strong.
"I’m going to the bathroom," she said, taking her phone with her.
Once the door was closed, she unlocked her phone like an addict in withdrawal and opened Instagram.
She checked Ashley’s profile again and immediately felt relieved, as if she had just gotten her fix.
She started scrolling through Ashley’s pictures when a new post appeared.
Ashley had just posted a mirror selfie from her gym.
Elena froze.
She knew where that gym was.
She could go there and pretend her presence was just a coincidence.
But she obviously wasn’t going to do that.
...Right?
She left the bathroom.
"I have an important appointment. I’ll be gone for a few hours," she told Angela.
Angela didn’t ask any questions. She sometimes had to leave because of unexpected things too, and Elena always covered for her when she did.
Elena took a cab home to change into workout clothes.
That way, she wouldn’t look suspicious.
And, most importantly, nobody would think she was a stalker.
Even though, technically, she was stalking Ashley.
But she was only going to look at her.
That wasn’t illegal.
...Right?
---
When Elena arrived at the gym, she took a deep breath before walking in.
The place was huge, and she couldn’t see the entire gym from the entrance.
"Can I help you?" the receptionist asked when she noticed Elena looking around.
"I’d like to sign up for a membership," Elena replied.
It was a pretty good alibi. Besides, she really did need to work out. It had been a long time since she’d exercised.
The receptionist took down her information, and Elena paid for her membership on the spot.
"We can also set you up with a personal trainer if you’d like."
"Okay. I’ll look around the gym first."
Perfect. Now she had an excuse to stay.
She walked between the machines until she spotted Ashley.
Ashley was talking to several handsome guys while a cameraman filmed them.
Elena’s heart immediately filled with happiness at the sight of Ashley’s beautiful smile.
Then a less pleasant thought crossed her mind.
A woman as beautiful as Ashley could never date someone like her.
Elena wasn’t ugly. Far from it. But she didn’t have Ashley’s beauty or elegance.
And the men Ashley was filming with were gorgeous.
They looked like models.
Or rather, they probably were models.
Still, Elena decided to stay for a while.
She spent a few minutes on the treadmill, then picked up some dumbbells to work on her arms, all while discreetly keeping an eye on Ashley.
Thirty minutes later, the filming was over.
Ashley left.
Elena immediately grabbed her bag.
"Excuse me, miss. Here’s your membership card," the receptionist called out.
"Thanks!"
Elena barely gave her time to say anything else before rushing outside.
Now or never.
Ashley was alone. This was her chance to talk to her.
Even though Elena knew she probably had no chance, she still wanted to try. Maybe they could become friends. And if they did, Elena would have plenty of reasons to talk to her.
She quickened her pace.
But as she hurried after Ashley, Elena bumped into someone.
A bag fell to the ground.
"I’m sorry!"
She immediately bent down to pick it up.
"It’s okay," the woman replied.
Elena looked up.
The woman was beautiful, elegant, and much taller than her. She had blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes.
Elena was momentarily speechless before glancing over the woman’s shoulder.
Ashley was gone.
"I’m really sorry," Elena said again.
"It’s okay. But where were you rushing off to like that? You didn’t even notice me," the woman said with a warm, friendly smile.
Elena was surprised by how kind she was, considering she had just crashed into her.
The woman smiled and held out her hand.
"By the way, I’m Clara."
Elena looked at her hand, slightly surprised.
She didn’t know why this stranger was introducing herself after they had just bumped into each other, but Clara seemed nice.
Very nice, actually.
Elena finally shook her hand.
"I’m Elena."
"So, where were you rushing off to?" Clara asked.
Elena hesitated. She didn’t know why, but she suddenly felt a little nervous around Clara. The woman was incredibly beautiful and friendly.
"Actually, I work at a bookstore," Elena said, reaching into her bag. "Here, I can give you the bookstore’s card. If you ever want to stop by and look around..."
She handed Clara the card.
Clara glanced at it before looking back at Elena.
"I was actually hoping you’d give me your number," she said.
Elena blinked in surprise.
"Oh. Sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable," Clara quickly added.
That was when Elena finally understood.
Clara was flirting with her.
She was actually trying to pick her up.
Elena was completely caught off guard. No woman had ever flirted with her before. She hadn’t even considered that Clara might be interested in her that way.
"I can give you my number," Elena said, still surprised. "I mean, I wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity with a beautiful girl."
Clara smiled, took out her phone, and handed it to her.
Elena entered her number.
"There. So, if I call you, you’ll answer?" Clara asked.
"Yes. Of course," Elena replied.
"See you later, Elena."
Clara walked away, leaving Elena standing there, still trying to process what had just happened.
She eventually took a cab back to work.
But she couldn’t stop thinking about everything that had happened that day.
First, Ashley.
And then Clara.
Clara, the beautiful woman who had just asked for her number.
At work, Elena kept checking her phone, feeling strangely excited.
She couldn’t stop thinking about how clueless she had been all this time. How had she never realized she could be attracted to women too? Without Ashley, it probably would have taken her much longer to discover this side of herself.
Speaking of Ashley, Elena checked her latest posts again.
Then, suddenly, her phone buzzed.
It was a text from Clara.
"Hi."
"Hi," Elena replied.
Another message appeared almost immediately.
"Would you like to have dinner with me tonight? But I completely understand if you’re not ready yet."
Elena’s heart began beating faster.
She hadn’t expected Clara to ask her out so soon, but the thought of having dinner with her that evening made her incredibly excited.
She typed, "Of course, I’m free tonight," then deleted it. She didn’t want to sound too desperate.
Instead, she wrote:
"Sure. I’m free tonight."
A few seconds later, Clara replied.
"Great! How about dinner at 7:30?"
"Okay. Send me the address."
A little while later, Clara sent it.
Elena stared at the message in disbelief.
’I’m really going on a date with a beautiful woman,’ she thought.
Her heart was pounding with excitement. She couldn’t wait for her shift to end so she could get ready.
A few hours later, closing time finally arrived.
Usually, Elena was the one who closed the bookstore, but this time, she let Angela handle it.
She hurried home to change before taking a cab to the address Clara had sent her.
Only when she arrived did she realize the restaurant was incredibly luxurious.
As she stepped out of the cab, she spotted Clara waiting outside in a stunning black dress and a jacket that gave her an effortlessly chic look.
Elena suddenly felt self-conscious.
"Hi. You look beautiful," Clara said with a smile.
"Thank you. You look beautiful too."
Clara led her inside, where they were shown to a lovely, secluded table.
For Elena, it was the first time in her life she had ever been somewhere like this—and she was experiencing it with a woman.
"So, what’s it like working at a bookstore?" Clara asked, starting the conversation.
"It’s nice. Sometimes it gets a little boring sitting around all day in a place where everyone has to stay quiet, but I like it. I love the peace and quiet," Elena replied.
Elena had expected the evening to be awkward, but thanks to Clara, the conversation flowed surprisingly well. After a few minutes, she had completely relaxed.
Honestly, the dinner was going really well.
Still, Elena couldn’t help looking forward to leaving.
Maybe she would get the chance to kiss Clara.
Just thinking about it made her blush.
She really wanted to know what it felt like to kiss a girl.
