Millionaire Girlfriend

Chapter 57 - Under illusion

Chapter 57: Chapter 57 - Under illusion

It was Sunday evening, and Elena was lying on the couch with a book in her hands, her head resting comfortably on Olivia’s lap. Olivia was reading a book too, and they were at her apartment.

Their relationship had started because Clara had practically forced them to go on a date. Their date had been nothing extraordinary, and Elena had even thought there probably wouldn’t be a second one.

So, at the end of the date, Elena asked Olivia if she could spend the rest of the evening at her place. Olivia agreed. After a few glasses of wine, they ended up having a wonderful night together.

It was wonderful, but Elena thought that was the end of it.

However, the next evening, Elena received a text from Olivia asking if she wanted to come over.

She said yes.

Then, another day, another text, always with the same message.

"Do you want to come over?"

And Elena always replied with a simple "Sure" before taking a taxi to Olivia’s place.

And now, three weeks later, here they were.

Spending their evenings together, completely comfortable with each other’s presence.

Well... not quite.

As much as Elena tried to focus on her book, she couldn’t help glancing around from time to time. Olivia’s apartment was elegant, modern, and impeccably decorated. Everything seemed carefully chosen, from the furniture to the smallest details.

It was classy. Maybe even a little too classy for Elena.

Her own apartment looked like a dump compared to Olivia’s.

They clearly came from two different worlds, after all. Olivia worked in human resources for a large company, while Elena was a librarian at a small bookstore. The difference between them was like night and day.

She lowered her eyes back to her book, pretending to read.

Did Olivia really think she was good enough for her, or did she simply see Elena as someone to keep her from getting bored?

Did Olivia even like her, even just a little?

At first, Elena had only wanted a no-strings-attached relationship, but she had ended up developing feelings for Olivia.

Olivia was beautiful, mature, and independent. She was everything Elena had always wanted to be. That was why Elena kept telling herself that sooner or later, Olivia would probably get tired of her.

That was why she hadn’t wanted to get attached in the first place.

So that when Olivia eventually told her it was over, Elena could walk away calmly, without sadness or drama, just like she always had in her previous relationships.

"Ahhh..." Elena yawned despite herself, covering her mouth.

"Do you want to go to bed?" Olivia asked, closing her book.

"Have you seen the time? It’s only nine. It’s not bedtime yet," Elena said, sitting up.

"So what? Any time is bedtime if we’re tired."

"My body wants to sleep. My mind doesn’t," Elena replied.

"What do you want to do, then?" Olivia asked.

Olivia was asking because she was on her period and didn’t want to have sex. But she had still invited Elena over because she was bored of being alone in her apartment.

That made Elena wonder if Olivia had only asked her to come over because she was lonely, or because she actually felt something for her.

Besides, were they dating?

She wasn’t sure. Maybe they were just friends with benefits.

"Maybe you can tell me about the book you’re reading. I’ve never been into werewolf stories, but maybe you can change my mind," Olivia said.

"I don’t think it’s for you. It’s too immature for your taste," Elena replied.

"Wait, am I wrong, or did you just imply that I’m too old for your books?" Olivia asked, raising an eyebrow.

It was true that there was a six-year age gap between them. Elena was twenty-one, while Olivia was twenty-seven.

"No, that’s not what I meant," Elena replied with a smile as she moved closer to her.

"I mean, you’re the only person I know who can read self-help books for hours without getting bored."

"I see what you mean," Olivia replied, gently caressing Elena’s cheek before leaning in to kiss her.

Elena closed her eyes when their lips met.

She would never get tired of being kissed by Olivia.

She couldn’t help but smile widely.

Olivia caressed her cheek once more before saying, "Okay, I’m ready. Tell me about the book."

So Elena told her about the book she was reading. It was about a werewolf who had been rejected by her mate, only for a powerful Alpha to eventually ask her to marry him.

"Wait. You’re telling me she was engaged to an asshole this whole time, and she never realized it? And why did he even get engaged to her in the first place if he was disgusted by her? And the Alpha had been in love with her for years, but he only approached her after she’d been humiliated and mistreated for months?" Olivia asked.

"I told you you’d find the story stupid," Elena said.

"No, it’s not stupid. I just don’t understand the characters’ reasoning," Olivia explained.

"That’s why I said it wasn’t for you," Elena replied. "I think I’m going to bed after all."

She got up.

"Then let’s go," Olivia said, getting up as well.

"You know, you don’t have to go to bed if you’re not tired yet," Elena said.

"I know, but I want to sleep next to you. It’s much better than reading a self-help book on a Sunday night," Olivia replied, taking Elena’s hand and leading her toward the bedroom.

Elena had been tired before going to bed, but once she was lying there, she couldn’t fall asleep.

"What’s on your mind?" Olivia asked.

She had noticed that Elena had been acting a little strange all evening.

Maybe Elena had a reason to feel nervous. This was the first time Olivia had asked her to stay the night at her place and actually just sleep.

"Do you like me?" Elena asked after a few seconds of hesitation.

Olivia turned the light back on and looked her straight in the eyes.

"Of course I like you. Why would I be dating you otherwise?" Olivia replied.

"So we’re dating?" Elena asked.

"I think so," Olivia replied, not quite understanding what Elena was getting at.

"So that means I’m your girlfriend?" Elena asked with a smile on her face.

"Obviously," Olivia replied.

"So that means you’re my girlfriend?" Elena repeated, her voice a little shy but incredibly cute.

"Yes, I am," Olivia replied.

Elena kissed her passionately.

"I like you too," she said.

They looked into each other’s eyes for several seconds with smiles on their lips before kissing passionately again.

Olivia had been having cramps from her period all day, but Elena was far too cute for her to ignore. She gently pulled Elena closer as they continued kissing.

"We don’t have to do anything if you’re not feeling well," Elena said, even though she clearly didn’t mean that she wanted to stop kissing her.

"I refuse to go to sleep while one of us is still horny," Olivia said playfully.

They stayed close to each other, kissing and enjoying the warmth of the moment. Elena’s body moved with pleasure, and she moaned softly. The realization that the woman who made her feel so happy was officially her girlfriend only made the moment even more special.

Olivia pulled back slightly before kissing Elena’s lips again.

"Tell me again that I’m your girlfriend, please!" Elena asked.

"You’re my girlfriend, and I really like you," Olivia replied.

Elena smiled brightly at her words before wrapping her arms around Olivia’s neck and kissing her passionately.

"I can’t believe I have such an amazing girlfriend," she whispered. "I like you so much."

Then they fell asleep in each other’s arms.

The next morning, when Elena woke up, she was alone in the bed.

But then she heard the sound of the shower running, which told her exactly where Olivia was.

"My beautiful girlfriend is finally awake," Olivia said as she stepped out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around her body.

Elena was over the moon. She still couldn’t believe how happy it made her to hear someone call her that.

"Good morning!" she replied, getting out of bed.

"Go take a shower. We’re going out for breakfast," Olivia told her.

Elena happily took a shower. Afterward, she got dressed, ready to go out for breakfast before heading to work.

She was about to grab her bag and phone from the table when she noticed that Olivia’s phone, lying right next to hers, had a new message.

Normally, Elena wasn’t the curious type. But it was her girlfriend’s phone, and the name of the person who had sent the message was displayed on the screen.

And she knew that person quite well.

It was the same person who had brought them together in the first place.

Clara Turner.

So, taking a quick look couldn’t hurt, right?

Well, it did.

Elena’s heart sank when she read part of the message displayed on the screen.

"Thank you so much for getting rid of her. She was..."

Elena looked toward the bathroom door, where Olivia was still showering.

What did that message mean?

Who was the "her" Clara was talking about?

Could she be talking about Elena?

There was a good chance that she was.

And if that was the case, maybe Olivia was only dating her because Clara had asked her to.

Elena quickly turned off the screen and put the phone back down just as the bathroom door opened.

"I’m finally ready," Olivia said as she picked up her bag and phone.

"Let’s go," she said, holding out her hand to Elena.

Elena stared at her hand for a few seconds before looking at Olivia, who was smiling at her.

She smiled back and took Olivia’s hand.

She might have been smiling, but deep down, she was devastated.

Still, she refused to make a fool of herself in front of the person who had lied to her and played with her feelings.

So she decided that, whatever happened, she would walk away from this fake relationship with her head held high.
