Mindless Beasts

Chapter 19: True fear

"Only a dumb ass would show off on a weak omega," said Khaldun.

Who the hell is he calling weak, thought Sly.

Khaldun bent his elbow and shoved it into William’s gut, practically tossing him away.

For the first time in William’s life, there was a flash of something he had never felt before: true fear.

Fear of an S-tier alpha.

Khaldun could smell it on the coward.

Good.

William tumbled through the air and landed amongst his friends that tried to cushion his fall but were too slow.

Still the A-tier alpha sat up and got back on his feet again.

"You think you can take us," snarled William, "think again."

Giving his fellow alphas the signal to attack.

"With this many losers in the vicinity, I know I can," insisted Khaldun.

William’s face twisted with rage, almost looking like he was going to cry at the thought of losing face in front of his friends to an S-tier alpha.

This is all Sly’s fault and William was going to make him pay when he got his hands on him.

"Don’t you know who I am? You hurt us," snapped William, "and my family will make you suffer."

"Let them try."

As much as Sly was grateful for the Khaldun’s interference he didn’t want anyone’s blood on his hands.

"Guys... guys, " Sly stammered. Was he the only voice of reason, there must be a logic gap somewhere. "There’s no need to fight, let’s just cool down and finish the admission test."

"Shut up, " snapped William. "No one will obey a useless omega. Your body is not worth the trouble. Once I beat the hell out of him. I’ll deal with you next."

The sounds of footsteps rapidly approaching the group of fifteen that surrounded Sly and the S-tier alpha currently shielding him.

"Khaldun!" shouted Shelby.

So that’s the name of the S-tier alpha, thought Sly.

Damn...

These alphas are a strange bunch, there must be something in the air making them all go stir crazy.

Only idiots would run full tilt towards a fight that was none of their damn business and didn’t concern them.

Sly wasn’t a genius and even he knew that rushing headlong into danger wasn’t the best way to stay alive.

Caution was better, they were as old as him, they should know better, but his opinion didn’t matter, this spirit plant user just wanted to live quietly.

This day solidified his decision that if he made it out of this admissions test alive he would keep a low profile going forward at Paradise Military Academy.

It was going to be an all out brawl soon the sounds of snarling alpha surrounded Sly and he just wanted to make a break for it and get the hell out of there.

There was a look on the S-tier alpha’s face that Sly couldn’t quite read, and definitely didn’t have the time to puzzle over.

The S-tier alpha’s friends had joined the fight and for a brief second their eyes shifted to Sly as he saw them, as if surprised to see a rare omega in the midst of the brawl.

"They attacked Khaldun," said a furious Shelby.

"Fifteen against one, they wouldn’t have done without orders from that A-tier alpha that Khaldun is now fighting," replied Jonas.

Terrence kicked away a B-tier alpha that had creeped up behind Shelby and warned," don’t let your guard down Shelby."

"Sorry."

While William was crawling away into some nearby bushes five of the strongest alpha’s of the bush jumped onto Khaldun’s back like a dogpile.

Then Khaldun’s spirit wolf burst out from in the midst of them and tore open the stomach of one of the enemy alphas and began shredding apart the intestines.

Sly was thoroughly grossed out, as the spirit wolf sank its teeth into the alpha’s throat and tore it out in a spurt of oozing blood and torn flesh.

All of the other alphas were in shock, the S-tier spirit wolf was obviously too powerful for its owner and Khaldun had little to no control over the ravenous beast.

A few started running behind William afraid that they would die next, the spirit wolf and Khaldun’s friends gave chase.

The spirit beast managed to catch up to another alpha and tore off its leg causing the suddenly disabled alpha to wet himself and cry in despair.

Khaldun’s last thread of patience snapped, "get off him!"

Surprisingly the wolf obeyed, and everybody that heard the sound of bones cracking flinched.

Then the spirit beast carried the leg bone over to its master and dropped it at Khaldun’s feet.

Just like a cute terrier would do with a bone that was a treat for its master.

Sly’s stomach heaved as he looked at the gnawed leg bone with flesh and blood dripping off the sides.

Khaldun petted the beast as if to say without words good boy, job well done, then he grabbed the wolf by the scruff of the neck and jerked it off its feet.

He gave it a good shaking, displaying his dominance before setting it back down on the ground and the powerful spirit beast whimpered humbly at his feet.

While Khaldun was distracted, another alpha crept up from behind, leapt in his back and tried to break Khaldun’s neck.

Somehow Khaldun twisted his body and managed to jerk the other alpha off his back, he grabbed by his feet and turned the alpha’s body around to face him.

Sly’s eyes were riveted by Khaldun’s bulging muscles, the veins popped out and corded neatly with little to no effort, he would be lying if there wasn’t a bit of jealousy at the sight of Khaldun’s brute strength.

The alpha took out a concealed knife and tried to slash at Khaldun several times in a bid to get him to loosen his grip but Khadun stubbornly held on.

To do the alpha justice he did manage to get some damage on Khaldun’s bare skin as blood poured out of the wound where the knife slashed in thin lines but it was like Khadun ignored the pain.

Soon Khaldun got tired of toying with the alpha and flung him aside.

Distracted, they kept going after alpha.

Feeling ignored, this was Sly’s only chance to sneak away.
