Mindless Beasts

Chapter 42: Temporary mark erased

"It depends, who are the three people besides yourself?" inquired Sly.

It didn’t sound like Sly had a choice in the matter anyways but it was nice of Adjutant Miles to show some concern.

Adjutant Miles responded, "that’s Commandant Hitchener, Dr. Shirley and Mr. Howard in case of an emergency or if the device should prove faulty at the risk of your health."

Verde who had been silent the entire time gasped out loudly reminding others of his unneeded presence in the room.

He thought they would at least share the code with Sly.

His plan was to sweet talk Sly into trusting him and the second that disgusting alpha’s brand faded he would replace it with his own mark.

The doll-faced slender young man that still sat neatly on the bed raised an eyebrow in Verde’s direction and then froze slightly.

Until Miles said out loud what everyone else was dying to say.

Adjutant Miles frowned, "why are you still here?"

Looking at Verde like he was the one who entered Sly’s room uninvited.

To be honest they had all been so excited about the chastity choker none of them had checked to ensure that Verde left the hospital room with the security detail.

Now everyone was looking at Verde with a not so favorable expression as he was now privy to strictly confidential military details.

Verde defended himself and explained, "I’m the hall monitor for Preston Hall. I wanted to make sure that Mr. Foxx does not fall behind in his studies, since it’s my duty to supervise this new recruit. Of course, I have every reason to be in this room."

It was at that point that Commandant Hitchener took special notice of Verde; nothing pleased him more than a confident and ambitious youth.

Commandant Hitchener emphasized, "I’m sure you must realize by now that nothing you heard or saw today mustn’t leave this room."

The implication was keep your mouth shut or the royal military won’t hesitate to dispose of him.

Verde immediately straightened his posture, kept his heels together, shoulders back and eyes looking straight ahead before confirming, "yes sir...I agree...Commandant Hitchener... Permission to be dismissed?"

"Permission granted," accepted Commandant Hitchener.

With one last look of longing in Sly’s direction Verde nodded before quietly leaving the room.

Meanwhile somewhere else on campus a son who was a chip off the old block hugged his father warmly in the parking lot.

General Wolfe’s darkly tinted, privately boosted armored Rolls Royce Phantom was filled to the brim with gifts for Khaldun and his friends.

They left Shelby, Jonas and Terence behind with the keys to give the vehicle a quick spin.

After they finished unloading the car they could have some fun touring the vast property of Paradise on wheels.

The military parade for the 175th anniversary of Paradise Military Academy was just around the corner.

His father General Wolfe was a specially invited guest who used the news of the invitation as a reason to rush over and pay a surprise visit to his only son.

Although the father would prefer to keep his son by his side he knows that his training from Paradise will prevent his son from turning out mediocre.

In order for his son to succeed him and take over control of the Scarlet Shadow Wolf Legion he has to get stronger mentally and physically.

By becoming a favorite of the people, learn to navigate the treacherous waters of politics, be ready to squash those rival political factions that will always attempt to seize power.

Now that his unstable S-tier son seemed to be thriving and settling down at Paradise, General Wolfe felt relieved.

He would use the upcoming month-long festivities at the academy to campaign for the future of his only son.

General Wolfe was fully aware that there was gossip and speculation about his reason for shipping Khaldun off to the private military academy.

Many believed his son was too young and unfit to lead, as a S-tier who was more unstable and prone to rampages because of the lack of S-tier guides.

Some argued that prevention was better than cure and that Khaldun should be placed at a Sentinel sanatorium.

Where he can be monitored and controlled instead of being allowed to roam free because of his connections to royalty.

As soon as his son’s future was secured General Wolfe wouldn’t hesitate to retire with Khaldun’s Omega father, the nerdy sixth prince of the Ephedra Empire.

Since all the relevant dignitaries and royals will make an appearance at some point during the month-long festivities.

Many residents from the capital and neighboring cities will fly in to spectate at the parade and other upcoming activities.

It was even rumored that representatives from each of the top ten legions will also be attending to scout and recruit or provide sponsorship for those with a bright future in the military.

The parade would be televised live amongst the various interstellar planets and cities amongst the Ephedra empire.

This anniversary would go down in history as it boasts the most over the top extravagance experience and also marks the succession of one of princes to be handed over the Royal Military.

Khaldun would also have to put up with his snooty, insufferable cousin for a few days to his dismay.

"...understood father," replied Khaldun wearily. "I will do my best."

He longed to go and pay a visit to Sly’s hospital room but instead he was forced to chaperone his father around campus until Commandant Hitchener was available and could come to his rescue.

Not aware that the place Khaldun most wanted to be Commandant Hitchener was there in his place and wreaking havoc, the interfering scoundrel.

The only reason Khaldun had been so calm while escorting his father around campus was because of the temporary mark that he shared with Sly Foxx.

Then suddenly he felt adrift at sea, cut off from Sly, his temporary mark erased from existence, Khaldun felt a rage take over his mood.

Khaldun didn’t even take the time to explain things to his father; he just started rushing towards the Paradise Campus Hospital.

It was a sight to see the normally elegant and dignified general running across campus looking panicked as the elderly alpha lagged behind his son’s inhuman S-tier speed.
