Mindless Beasts

Chapter 53: Reinforcements

Senior medic advised, "Sylvie, brought another one."

"Hello, I’m Sylvie. Just let me check your blood pressure and take a sample of your mucus to check for any skin infections or sexually transmitted diseases. Open wide."

After Sly complied, Sylvie swabbed his mouth with cotton then immediately scanned after with her equipment.

"All clear," responded Sylvie and she gestured for him to join the other B-tier guides that were lounging nearby.

Both beta and omega guides we either huddled in small groups for conversation or trying to get some much needed rest on a foldable cot.

Unsure of what to do next Sly retreated to the back of the group preferring to blend into the background rather than stand out.

A sigh escaped from a solitary omega guide who kept to himself but felt some indignation when he laid eyes on Sly.

"EGA has really sunk to an all time low if they are now sending fresh faced babies to service S-tier Royal Alphas," spat the older Omega Guide.

Since he couldn’t stop the boorish man from loudly voicing his opinion Sly chose instead to just ignore him.

First time in the company of another Omega Guide and he was already coming off as pretentious and rude.

Based on what he was seeing, B-tier Guides looked generally miserable and unhappy with their lives.

Perhaps Dr. Shirley should have made him present his differentiation as A-tier since Sly believed himself to be a capable and fast learner.

It was pretty obvious that Sly was the youngest in the room and a naive omega to boot, something that the Royal Alpha Khaldun despised the most.

Another beta guide nodded in agreement, "it’s only going to get worse since the Empire Guide Association dropped the recruiting age to sixteen."

"Haa... I voted against that," chimed another Omega Guide, shaking his head with anger, while mumbling a few expletives under his breath.

Now the older omega guide’s heated comment drew all eyes to their corner of the lounge and sparked a heated debate with controversial thoughts about the EGA, and whether betas were better than omega as guides.

"At the rate S-tier alpha is draining us they are going to be calling for C-tier guides soon. Let’s pray Royal Alpha finds an exclusive guide before we end up servicing him to our detriment."

"The EGA needs to use our hard earned taxes to come up with a better way of handling S-tier alphas."

"How will we manage if more S-tier Alphas manifest and the number of Guides are rapidly dwindling?"

"That’s why I say Beta Guides are the way of the future," encouraged an elderly Beta Guide that looked to be in the late fifties.

Ignoring the naysayers he spilled the facts, "Biological Betas do not experience heats or ruts and are mostly neutral to pheromones. A Beta Guide is fundamentally stacked to handle violent, aggressive Alphas/Sentinels because they will not lose their rationality to hormones. While Omega Guides might trigger a Sentinel’s territorial instincts to turn violently possessive or sexual due to fated-mate ideologies. The wiser choice in any scenario is always the Beta Guide that functions as a calm, purely energetic, rechargeable battery for an S-tier Alpha."

"Get the fuck out of here with that rubbish."

"Haa..."

"I agree 100%."

All around Sly conversations swirled but most of all he resented that mature Omega Guide for thrusting him into the spotlight when he would rather be unnoticed.

A series of loud beeping alarms went off all around them.

But instead of looking alert or moving towards the Royal Alpha’s tent some of the team either groaned, were stupefied or appeared anxious.

Like magic, or perhaps powered by energy drinks or maybe even coffee, the overzealous senior medic officer stormed into the lounge to start barking orders.

"Look alive folks...Get moving," having stepped into the lounge he dragged an Omega Guide tat was feigning sleep from off his cot. "Are you deaf? Didn’t y’all hear the alarm go off, now move it gentlemen."

The commanding officer’s voice was a mixture of irritation and perseverance; he didn’t climb to the top of the military medical ranks by being lazy.

Feet started shuffling and the disembodied voice of some random B-tier guide muttered,"I wonder if we are getting paid a sizable bonus for this shit."

The B-tier guides had every right to be afraid.

If A-tier guides weren’t enough to suppress a bottomless pit, what cace did they have of accomplishing such a glorious feat.

Wishful thinking, reality has proven that an S-tier alpha sentinel in rampage mode is harder to be effectively neutralized by a lower tier.

They were in actuality being treated like disposable substitutes until more higher tier guides from the capital could arrive.

Everyone appeared apprehensive about facing Khaldun Wolfe, one of the strongest alpha sentinels in the Ephedra Empire.

A firstborn son of one of the most romanticized not to mentioned publicized couples, the General and the Sixth Prince, who have proven themselves to be a love match that has withstood the test of time.

Of course, Sly was the last B-tier guide at the end of the line, he silently followed his seniors as they crawled slowly like a funeral procession towards Khaldun’s tent.

The sky over the sunken garden had darkened significantly since Sly lost consciousness and day had turned to night.

Even in the still of the night, a savage, almost devastatingly chaotic spirit energy was streaking like lightning bolts in the sky.

As they waited their turn outside the tent the air felt heavy and oppressive and impacted Sly negatively.

Static spirit energy emanating from the S-tier alpha prickled their skin and goosebumps appeared all over Sly’s exposed body parts.

Sly’s group didn’t even get time to become impatient waiting around outside.

As quick as B-tier guides went inside the tent they were being ushered out on stretchers in a matter of seconds.

Behind Sly Foxx, the next batch of reinforcements, the C-tier guides were already lining up.

Then it was Sly’s turn to be devoured as he walked straight into the mouth of the Wolfe’s tent.
