Mindless Beasts

Chapter 59: Sensitive subject

When Sly passed out before his eyes Khaldun came back to his senses.

Hastily he dragged a nearby blanket off the bed and wrapped the fluffy blanket around Sly who was unable to resist, picked up his comatose body, determined to leave the tent.

Even though military medics were on standby Khaldun wanted to take Sly to the Paradise Campus Hospital where he knew Sly would feel safe.

None of the senior medical personnel opposed his logic, so the whole process of leaving the quarantined tent area went smooth and unobstructed.

Khaldun found that even while unconscious Sly’s omega pheromones were agitated, they were being released in large quantities.

Anyone else smelling Sly’s pheromones was intolerable.

It smelled even sweeter, a promise of a good time with the warmth of a tropical paradise.

It was too wonderfully distracting!

Just the thought of other alphas coveting what was his, gave the alpha pause, such concerning competition was too much for the possessive alpha to think about.

Without a second thought he renewed the fading temporary mark and put on the chastity choker for Sly’s protection.

After he put the spiritchoker on and activated it, Sly calmed down while still sleeping peacefully and the release of pheromones became almost miniscule.

Outside the tent there were five military vehicles parked nearby and a phantom.

If the gang still had possession of the car then it meant General Wolfe hadn’t come out of the closed emergency meeting yet.

When he walked up to the phantom with Sly in a princess carry everyone’s eyes from the car were focused on the two of them.

Khaldun and his fascination with the omega had just been the source of an ongoing heated debate amongst his friends inside the car.

Terrence was behind the wheel, Shelby was in the front seat while Jonas James was sprawled out on the backseat playing games on his spiritbracelet.

Jonas stopped playing his game, opened the door and scooted over frantically to the other end of the seat with no questions asked.

Terrence started up the car engine without another word.

Silence was heavy in the vehicle; everyone remembered their role in the debacle a few hours earlier.

Tension only eased when Khaldun spoke, "Go quickly, drive to the Paradise Campus Hospital."

On the journey the passengers in the vehicle were silent for a long time until Shelby, unable to take it anymore, blurted out.

"Khaldun, this advice might not sound right coming from me but I’m going to say what’s on my mind anyways. You have no future with such an inferior omega, it is best not to get too close to trash like this."

"Shut up."

Shelby ignored Khaldun’s blunt reply and persisted, "all omega use their bodies as tactics to seduce alpha’s just have your fill and dispose of him."

Unused to having Khaldun blatantly disregard his advice and exchange blows with him over an omega he barely knew, he would hate to see years of friendship go down the drain like this.

Feeling distressed Shelby changed tactics and tried to meet Khaldun half way and try to approach the sensitive subject from a scientific point of view to sway Khaldun to his side.

"Statistics have shown over the years that the chemical reaction between an alpha and omega relies on prolonged contact. With more exposure to the wrong omega it will become addictive like a drug and..."

Just by chance Shelby glanced over to see that Sly was blatantly ignoring him.

Khaldun’s eyes were closed and he didn’t even bat an eyelash at Shelby’s sensationalism.

Sly suddenly moaned while fast asleep and snuggled closer to Khaldun unconsciously searching for more warmth.

Irritated, Khaldun glared at Shelby, "be silent, your thoughtless chatter has disturbed him.

It was Shelby’s turn to look aggrieved, feeling embarrassed he turned to face forward, tears welling up in his eyes.

Nothing he tried so far had gotten rid of the clingy pathetic omega but he was far from giving up, the omega would only claim Khaldun over his dead body.

Tonight Khaldun made it clear, gone were the days when they would bond over their mutual distrust and dislike for omegas.

The first time Sly opened his eyes he realized that he was no longer in Khaldun’s tent by the sunken garden.

He breathed a sigh of relief because it appeared he had been cleaned and was back in the hospital room.

Sly heard the door open, it was Dr. Shirley who came by his bedside to observe his medical charts but she wasn’t alone.

Behind her were fresh interns who had already neatly assembled like little ducklings into two rows by the door.

Every face was a stranger Sly would probably never see again with the exception of one person.

It was a face that sunk a thousand ships on the vast ocean.

Stiff and frozen, like an iceberg that was hard to see at night with a hidden body of accumulated ice that had fooled the most experienced of sailors.

Khaldun’s stark face contrasted mightily with the curiosity of the new interns who idolized Dr. Shirley and were happy to have her as their chaperone around the hospital.

Surprisingly his eyes no longer glowed red instead a pair of mismatched indifferent eyes pierced like daggers into Sly’s soul.

All the recent memories of the last time he saw Khaldun came rushing back and Sly suddenly felt a wave of dizziness as it felt like he was unable to breathe.

The surrounding air pressure dropped suddenly, and Sly was unable to keep his open until he unconsciously trailed off.

It was disturbing to see the patient have a panic attack and faint during a routine class observation.

The student hadn’t even begun to take notes yet and everyone in the small cramped hospital room fell into an unnatural silence.

Everyone knew Sly had been fine until he made eye contact with the brooding elephant in the room.

None of the students were brave enough to look in the direction of the Royal Alpha Khaldun Wolfe, much less speak out about how his presence disturbed the patient.

They would rather look outside the hospital window than face the wrath of an S-tier Alpha.
