Mindless Beasts

Chapter 6: Ignorance is bliss

He was having that daydream again.

This time it was broad daylight and he was having a creepy dream, a dream about fighting alien zombies in the apocalypse with his lover, something that didn’t exist in his current world.

In this dream, they were dressed in full black, militia gear complete with oxygen masks.

Distracted Khaldun turned his head to look, about nine or ten meters away, a middle aged lady that looked like she was pregnant with triplets suddenly stood still when her water broke.

Then she fell to the ground and started convulsing, her face was contorted with pain as she screamed for assistance.

She looked pitiful going into labor in the middle of a crowded street but no one stopped to help her.

All hell had broken loose around her as surprised civilians fought for their lives against a massive horde of alien zombies that flooded the suburbs.

The pregnant woman’s stomach muscles spasmed as her body contorted in an unnatural fashion.

Shaking like a leaf and out of her mind with pain, her labor looked painful and then her stomach exploded before their eyes, blood and guts splattered.

While her intestines were being chewed on by the dead triplet babies.

Sensing even fresher meat nearby the dead babies abandoned their inert mother’s lifeless body and started crawling to where Khaldun and his lover stood.

His lover didn’t hesitate immediately opening fire with a spray of bullets from his machine gun sending those dead babies to join their dead mother in the afterlife.

"Let’s head to the nearest supermarket, we need food and supplies," he shouted.

Damn, even his voice was smooth and sexy, the sound of his lover’s voice was soothing and like music to khaldun’s ears despite the screams of nearby civilians in the background.

Only then did Khaldun come back to his senses, working side by side with his mate to provide help and protection in any way that he could.

In just a few minutes the spread of alien zombies had dramatically increased.

As the ordinary humans were mostly defenseless and unprepared for the deadly invasion.

"Run inside the supermarket quickly and don’t let any zombies touch you," his lover shouted.

While Khaldun helped others barricade the glass windows to prevent zombies from getting inside.

His lover slipped outside.

After noticing a father fall while trying to get the daughter to safety.

He went out to help save the little girl while fighting off zombies.

The hero held them off long enough to see the girl run inside.

By the time Khaldun realized his lover wasn’t by his side it was already too late

In a split second his lover got caught, yanked across the street by the barbs of what looked like a tentacled zombie kraken.

Undeterred Khaldun determinedly fought his way through the zombie horde to reach his lover ignoring the zombie bodies that piled up or the new ones that surged towards him.

Somehow he managed to shoot down the tentacles that held his lover hostage.

Its blood was like a living fungus that crawled its way off the tentacles and into his lover’s suit.

Forced to pull off his lover’s oxygen mask, he would finally get to see his face and that’s when he found his lover’s face was covered with a dense mosaic of alien fungus.

The more he tried to pull the fungus off his face the thicker it got and faster it multiplied until it even covered his eyeballs completely so that he couldn’t even tell the color of his eyes.

Not giving up he managed to pull some of the alien zombie fungus off his mates lips and that’s when his mate suddenly held his face and kissed him violently.

Out of his mind from an alien parasitic invasion he bit off Khaldun’s tongue.

Blood splattered everywhere the damage was already done and the alien zombie virus had been transmitted into Khaldun’s bloodstream.

"Focus man," snapped Shelby.

They had been trekking for hours through deadly jungle terrain when Shelby noticed that his best friend wasn’t paying attention.

Shelby snuck up from behind and slapped him to get Khaldun alert and effectively waking him from the daydream.

Khaldun himself was goodlooking, whether it was the current look he sported, or the excellent physique from his past.

Naturally he wasn’t a vain alpha so you wouldn’t catch him staring at his reflection in mirrors but he had long since got used to the looks of envy and jealousy of others.

In fact ugly people impressed Khaldun more if his current mate was an eyesore, the MORE HIDEOUS the better.

One of his few weaknesses that Khaldun could admit to was inherent possessiveness.

He was so possessive that even in death he could not let his mate go, he would rather join him than let him face eternity alone.

Khaldun lost count of the number of times he dreamt about the death of his destined partner.

Having been reborn himself he could only taste despair and remorse that his lover, his other half, was no longer by his side.

Ignorance is bliss, sometimes he wished he had not retained those faulty precious memories of his past life.

For his lover’s face was a blur but he could never forget his smell.

Then he would not have to feel so bitter to have found love and lost it.

In this world there were many beauties but being around them just left him feeling empty with a sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach.

He often felt repulsed around omegas and had to go to extremes to hide his disgust.

Soon he would have his coming of age party and his father would once again try to force those omegas on him.

This time he had been wide awake when he sensed his fated mate.

Hope was rekindled in his heart that perhaps his precious one had been reincarnated.

Even if Khaldun’s significant other had crossed over into the body of a useless idiot without his memories, Khaldun swore to the heavens that he would find his fated mate and treasure him.
