Unlike the alphas, the betas were more reliable than alphas because they were not weak or susceptible to pheromones.

Also alpha sentinels often struggled to control their spiritual power leading it to become more chaotic and extremely unstable.

The longer alphas deflect getting treated the higher their rampage level climbs if left untreated then eventually the alpha sentinels self-destruct leading to their untimely deaths.

Guides can also be both beta and omega.

Only guides have the ability to soothe and sort the spiritual landscape of sentinels.

Physically the bodies of guides are weaker and more frail.

Beta guides possess no pheromones but wield spirit power, they are often more suited to being psychics, healers or medics.

Omega guides are always ranked higher than betas have higher mental and spiritual powers while a beta can only do one to one guiding with a sentinel at a time.

An omega guide can perform wide scale guiding to multiple sentinels at the same time.

Omega guides are much rarer and considered more valuable.

There is even a black market for omega guides, where unregistered guides are auctioned on the black market to the highest bidder.

That’s why becoming an exclusive guide is appealing, it saves the guide from being overworked to death and guarantees the guide’s safety with added security and protection from the sentinel.

So what happens to humans that don’t qualify to be guides or sentinels, they are the boneless, the nulls, devoid of spirit power they can’t enter Paradise Military Academy.

Basically, treated like cannon fodder, just like Victor, the young master of the Duncan family whose father privately pulled strings to have his son undergo the compatibility test with all the sentinels in the Ephedra Empire.
