When his heartbeat quickly sped up after one of the soldier ants bit him.

It literally felt like the vicious insect had ripped off his flesh and now his skin was on fire.

Upset he slapped the ant squashing it under the strength of his palm, a big mistake.

The smell of the dead soldier ant triggered its companions into a frenzied battle state.

Now they were coming after Sly with vengeance in their eyes for their fallen comrade.

Actually, what he thought was a dead soldier ant because of its larger size was actually a normal worker ant.

The moment he killed the ant and its smell filled the air the real soldier ants came out in their numbers in defense of their colony.

Some of these purplish black ants were three times larger than the worker ants, a small elite few were almost the size of hamsters.

Antennas were raised and darting to and fro, were they silently conversing and openly communicating with each other?

Unlike the smaller ants the larger ones also glowed with small traces of spiritual essence brimming from every orifice.

So these clearly kept a bigger share of the plums to themselves and had probably mutated after gorging themselves on the fruit.

The giant carnivorous caterpillar had probably started gorging itself on these ants when the rare fruit tree began producing less fruits.

This was the first time he was encountering such strange insects filled with spirit essence.

Not sure what to do next, Sly hesitated, should he retreat or go after the fruit.

Was the rare purple fruit really worth his life?

Until today he had never had so much excitement to the point where he felt his scalp go numb with fear when faced with so many dangerous insects.

How much biting attack power did the larger ants have?

If a bite from the smaller ants caused such intense pain, he would probably lose a limb.

This life crisis made it clear to Sly that in order to survive in the spirit essence filled world he would have no choice but to get stronger and make more strategic choices.

Previously Sly was wondering if the thin branch could support his weight but now he had no choice but to trust his judgement and take a leap of faith and go after the precious fruit.

They larger purple ants angrily circled Sly, almost filling up all the free space as if awaiting orders from the Queen.

Quickly, he broke off a limb of the branch and used it to swat away some of the larger ants that were too close for comfort.

Then he made a mad dash for the fruit and managed to pluck the fruit of the tree.

When the branch unable to support his weight and that of the larger ants trailing behind finally broke.

Sly found himself falling from a great height.

About to be gobbled up by a furious carnivorous caterpillar that made a beeline for him when he sensed that the last of the rare fruit was about to be stolen.

Fortunately, at that moment the Ant Queen realized that the thief was getting away with the last rare fruit.

Jumped off the branch swooping in to narrowly save Sly just as the Bone Collector jumped to swallow both him and the fruit whole.

"Don’t you know it’s rude to just abandon a fight," yelled an infuriated Dr. Jennings.

The doctor started attacking the giant caterpillar with his scalpels causing the Bone Collector’s movements to slow in pain.

Yet Dr. Jennings wasn’t the only one attacking the hungry caterpillar like a maniac; he had help from the colony of ants that went into a frenzy when they saw that their Ant Queen flew into danger.

Many of the purple ants that had been lurking on the ground watching the spectacle up above started aggressively biting and climbing up the back of the Bone Collector.

Sly had inadvertently sparked a full-scale war between two different insect species.

The purple ants were very militant and overprotective of their Ant Queen and mobilized everyone in their colony.

News travelled fast amongst the purple ants and there was a continuous, large-scale deployment of troops targeting the outsiders that infiltrated their space.

The objective was to stall the Bone Collector from destroying their Queen.

By slowing down its movement and capability to fight, ensuring total victory for the ant colony.

All of them regardless of weight and size were rushing in to help attack and devour the Caterpillar.

No matter how many ants the Caterpillar squashed with its huge body, more kept crawling up from underground and jumping off trees.

Meanwhile the Ant Queen, thinking she had secured the bag, was unprepared for a sneak attack from the white peregrine falcon.

In swerving to avoid the sharp outstretched talons of peregrine falcon the Ant Queen risked colliding with a tree and in a moment of sheer panic Sly slipped out of her grasp.

Poor Sly had his eyes closed the entire time.

Feeling like he was about to pass out when he looked down and saw just how high the Ant Queen was flying with him he immediately shut his eyes.

Only when he felt like he was free falling did he open his eyes and instantly regretted it.

The sight of falling through the trees and being scratched by branches as the ground loomed below made him feel nausea and the urge to vomit overtook his senses.

Under orders of the Ant Queen some of the ants broke away from the dying Bone Collector and rushed towards where they projected that Sly would fall.

The crafty Ant Queen commended her loyal underlings to start building a tower using their bodies.

Obviously, this was with the intention of breaking Sly’s fall then delivering the sacred fruit to their Ant Queen.

"Ahhhhhhahhhhhargghh!" screamed Sly.

Even though the purple ants broke his fall he was now being buried alive as the tiny ants swarmed all over his body.
