Mindless Beasts

Chapter 81: Unable to sleep

But he didn’t panic.

As he watched Khaldun walk past him, used his pass and entered his code ushering them into the apartment.

Silently, without a word Sly followed behind Khaldun through the door.

After Sly was inside Khaldun turned and locked the door behind them.

"Go shower and take off the wet clothes."

Sly dare not disobey, he could no longer feel the power of Khaldun’s heartbeat through the temporary mark.

Now Sly felt alone, cold, aimless and already second guessing himself, regretfully he couldn’t change what just occurred between them.

When Sly came out of the shower Khaldun was flicking through channels on the television making himself at home.

Sly didn’t mind the company and Khaldun said nothing when Sly sat down awkwardly beside him on the couch.

After another comedy sitcom ended Khaldun left without a word to use the bathroom.

Feeling sleepy, Sly decided to go to bed, figuring after his shower Khaldun would move into the spare bedroom.

It had a bigger bed that was very comfortable with a small window and the single door was more secure and easier to defend for the alpha who was constantly tailed by assassins.

He thought wrong.

After his shower, Khaldun climbed into the bed beside Sly with an extra pillow taken from the bed of the spare room.

In shock, mostly because Khaldun was completely stark naked, Sly rolled away from him at first with his back pressed against the wall.

Neither of them had the excuse of a heat or a rut to be in such close proximity to each other and Sly felt the complexity of them coming together as strangers, it hit him fullblown.

Khaldun ignored Sly and just made himself more comfortable as he snuggled on the bed.

In Sly’s opinion there wasn’t room for two on this smaller bed but Khaldun must have thought otherwise.

The alpha laid on his back staring, staring up at the omega, his black hair still slightly damp but curled at the nape.

He was such a beautiful monster, looks were definitely deceiving because behind that pleasant face was a cunning soul that schemed his way into Sly’s bed.

Sly’s thoughts slowed to an immediate crawl as he gazed at Khaldun’s deceptive face.

It wore this worried look as if Khaldun expected Sly to get mad, shout at him and kick him out of the bed.

Almost pitiful, he was playing on Sly’s conscience, he had only to say the words and he knew that Khaldun would obey him and leave the room.

Sly understood at that moment that the S-tier alpha was like an onion with so many layers to be peeled away but the seasoning that Khaldun brought to his life was worth the complexity.

He was still tired and it was better to just ignore the monster in his bed.

It was much too complicated to take the time to figure Khaldun out.

A few minutes later Sly dozed off to sleep and somehow Khaldun was pressed against his back, spooning his powerful body against Sly’s more petite frame.

Sly felt like a stuffed pillow, as Khaldun had his right arm flung across Sly’s waist.

Naturally, Sly stiffened but Khaldun was still fast asleep and didn’t notice.

Khaldun buried his face into Sly’s neck, even in his deepest sleep he was still trying to get a whiff of Sly’s pheromones that were being limited by the spiritchoker.

When he couldn’t smell anything Khaldun let out another little sigh of regret and continued to snore peacefully.

Sly didn’t know how long he lay there in the dark restless and unable to sleep.

Looking back after Ayana died Sly suffered from insomnia greatly.

Thanks to his close encounters with death where he either fainted or ended up in a coma that his body got the most rest.

It was only since he came to Preston Hall with a strict schedule to follow that he felt like he had no choice but to try sleeping normally again.

He tapped into his spritchoker sending a mental request for the current time it was only around 4:30 am.

Sly figured he only had around two to three more hours of sleep before Verde would come and drag him out of his apartment for their morning training sessions.

Fabulous.

Enviously Sly watched as Khaldun’s breathing deepened, how could this dominant alpha be so languid and relaxed in his sleep without a care in the world.

This must be what it was like to grow up under the loving and protective gaze of both parents.

Khaldun planted a wistful kiss on Sly’s neck, both arms were now wrapped tightly around Sly.

As if even in his dreams Khaldun felt Sly would disappear, so much the alpha whimpered in protest.

Then just like an innocent baby, Khaldun fell deeper into the dream world as the moment passed and the alpha lay fast asleep and warm.

Khaldun was like a giant teddy bear with a tendency to move his lower region at the odd moment.

It didn’t feel so bad to be wrapped in the alpha’s warm arms as the mini thunderstorm raged heavily outside and lightning occasionally lit up the dark room.

Listening to the sound of Khaldun’s breathing was actualling soothing to Sly’s nerves, he soon found himself feeling drowsy again then nodding off.

When daylight spilled through the thin light blue drapes it was time for Sly to go shower and get dressed in time for Verde’s arrival.

Sly didn’t want to move, he felt secure and cozy nestled in Khaldun’s protective arms.

Khaldun was still wrapped possessively around Sly’s body, one of his legs was also thrown protectively over Sly’s legs in addition to the arms.

Almost as if even in Khaldun’s deepest of sleep the alpha was instinctively trying to bridge the gap between them and get as close to Sly as he could in his wildest dreams.

When Sly tried to climb out of the bed away from Khaldun’s clinging body to go shower.

Khaldun made small protesting noises when Sly kissed his lips the alpha quieted down and released the hold.

Not waiting for Khaldun to change his mind, Sly dragged his clothes from the closet and scampered to the shower.

When he came out after a long invigoratingly warm shower he heard two voices arguing, both only stopped when Sly cleared his throat.

A familiar A-tier alpha stood in gym clothes that matched the color of his eyes, his eyes were the furious mottled green of an emerald fire, eyes burning like a toxic, venomous blaze.

When Verde turned his gaze in Sly’s direction the look softened but it was far from innocent.

Verde teased, "is it my turn next?"
