Mommy, Daddy Has Already Regretted It

Chapter 372: Mrs. Yeats’s Distress Letter

Chapter 372: Chapter 372: Mrs. Yeats’s Distress Letter

Estelle Lockwood shook her head. "Of course Evan Yeats cares about his reputation. After all, his dream is to replace Quentin and inherit the Yeats family."

Liam Sloan paused. "...Oh, that’s certainly a grand dream."

Carrying the three kids, Estelle noticed Christian was getting sleepy, so she led them back to the courtyard.

Though it was called an equestrian club, it was actually a comprehensive wellness resort that integrated horseback riding, hot springs, relaxation, lodging, and dining. Their courtyard featured artificial mountains, flowing water, and a private hot spring, making the view through the floor-to-ceiling windows especially beautiful.

Estelle laid the sleeping Christian on the bed. Seeing the other two also ready for a nap, she tucked them in.

Liam couldn’t help but remind her, "That Evan guy is still at the door, you know."

Estelle replied unhurriedly, "Isn’t he here to apologize? If he can’t even wait, what kind of apology is that?"

"Good point."

It was twenty minutes later when Estelle finally finished her tasks. Looking at the manager waiting anxiously outside the courtyard, she acted as if she had just remembered. "Oh, Evan is still waiting for me, right? Take me to him."

The manager was speechless, wondering if she had seriously just remembered.

Evan was already out of patience. His face was dark, and he could barely suppress his anger.

When he finally saw Estelle, he squeezed the words through his teeth. "Estelle Lockwood, what is the meaning of this?!"

"Hmm?" Estelle looked around curiously. "Is there a dog barking somewhere?"

Nathaniel Sloan let out a soft chuckle.

"You!" Evan felt a splitting headache coming on. He took a deep breath. "I’m here to apologize!"

"Huh?" Estelle gasped in exaggerated surprise. "You’re here to apologize?"

Evan didn’t understand why she was so shocked, but he quickly figured it out. She must feel she was unworthy of his apology, which was why she was so astonished.

Thinking of this, Evan couldn’t help but feel a bit haughtier. "That’s right..."

"So you really are here to apologize. With that dark face, that tone, and that glare, anyone else would have thought you were here to pick a fight," Estelle drawled.

"...!" Evan nearly choked on his own breath again.

"Estelle," Claire Yeats said softly. "Evan really is here to apologize. He didn’t know you had booked the entire equestrian club, so...

"But since he did cause you trouble, and Evan heard you were in a bad mood, he felt guilty and hurried over to apologize. We just didn’t expect you to...

"But it’s nothing, really. It was just waiting in the sun for half an hour. I’m sure you didn’t do it on purpose, Estelle."

Liam exclaimed, "Wow."

This was what a true two-faced hypocrite looked like. He needed to take notes!

Estelle clicked her tongue. "You’re wrong about that. I absolutely did it on purpose."

Claire was dumbfounded. "...Huh?"

Having played the innocent victim for so many years, she had never met someone so blatantly honest. It caught her completely off guard.

Estelle smoothed her hair, looking completely unfazed. "Since Mr. Yeats came to apologize, what’s wrong with waiting a bit? I was busy just now. Are you saying, Miss Yeats, that just because I knew Mr. Yeats was here to apologize, I was supposed to drop everything, rush out in a panic, and gratefully accept his apology so he wouldn’t lose face?"

Claire fell silent. She had indeed meant exactly that, but how could Estelle just say it out loud?!

"I—I obviously didn’t mean..."

"If that’s not what you meant, then what did you mean?" Estelle tapped her head. "Here I was, thinking you were mocking me."

Claire was left speechless once more.

Estelle looked at them coolly. "So, what’s it going to be? Are you two going to apologize or not? If you’re just going to stand there, I’m heading back inside. The weather isn’t exactly cool, and coming out here was already a stretch. I don’t have the time to salvage Mr. Yeats’s fragile ego."

Evan gritted his teeth. Estelle’s tongue was truly venomous! But his grandfather had called, so he didn’t have a choice.

He couldn’t stand Estelle’s arrogant attitude. He resented his grandfather and father for their blatant favoritism. They were both sons, yet they favored Quentin. They were all members of the Yeats family, yet they favored Estelle. Why couldn’t they favor him?!

So what if he used Silas Lockwood’s paintings? He was doing it for Silas’s own good! They were all family; why did they have to be so petty about it?! And just because of this trivial matter, his grandfather was actually angry with him!

Looking at Evan, Estelle knew this man would never reflect on his own mistakes and would only shift the blame onto others. She clicked her tongue in disgust.

She was about to turn around when a passing waiter suddenly stumbled. Estelle paused in surprise, and in the next second, a crumpled note was slipped into her hand.

Estelle raised an eyebrow. From an angle where Evan and Claire couldn’t see, she glanced at it and was instantly startled. She instinctively looked back!

Standing behind Evan was Mrs. Yeats, Melody Jenson. On the surface, she looked like a strict mother disappointed in her son’s failures. But the moment her eyes met Estelle’s, they were filled with sorrow and a desperate plea for help.

Estelle’s heart pounded. What was going on?!

Nathaniel seamlessly slipped the note from her hand. It read, "Estelle, help me."

Estelle suddenly remembered all of Mrs. Yeats’s bizarre behavior lately. She had helped Estelle, only to suddenly distance herself. She claimed to be good friends with Estelle’s parents, yet she admitted to stealing Silas’s artwork.

It was incredibly jarring.

At the time, Estelle wondered if someone was forcing her hand, if her aunt was simply a very unpredictable person, or if she was playing a massive game of chess. But now, receiving this note caught Estelle slightly off guard.

Instead of guessing, it would be better to have Mrs. Yeats answer these questions herself.

"Mr. Yeats, apologize. I’m waiting."

Evan’s original purpose for coming was to apologize anyway. He took a deep breath. "I’m sorry!"

"Alright, fine. I accept."

Evan nearly lost his footing. What? She accepted it? She actually accepted the apology?

"However, Mr. Yeats," Estelle suddenly sighed. "The owner of the equestrian club across the street is incredibly treacherous. He took our money for a private booking but still opened his doors to the public. I suppose he scammed you too. Since you want to ride horses, you might as well come to ours. We’re all family, after all. I don’t mind riding *with* you."

She heavily emphasized the word "with."

Recalling his grandfather’s strict orders, Evan’s expression stiffened. His face turned red, then pale, but he eventually agreed.

Claire smiled understandingly. "Thank you for being so accommodating, Estelle. Evan was truly just deceived by that owner."

"Mhm, I understand. Come on in."

Estelle had her staff welcome Evan and the others inside. Naturally, Mrs. Yeats followed.

As she walked past Estelle, Mrs. Yeats suddenly gave her a long, hard look. Her gaze was incredibly complex. It looked just like...

Just like someone who knew too many secrets, who had kept them buried for too long, and was now on the brink of total collapse.
