Mommy, Daddy Has Already Regretted It

Chapter 373: Nathaniel Sloan Didn’t Even Give Her Face

Chapter 373: Chapter 373: Nathaniel Sloan Didn’t Even Give Her Face

At this moment, Estelle Lockwood was certain that Mrs. Yeats knew something—and she knew a lot.

But now wasn’t a good time to ask. Besides... if Mrs. Yeats wanted to ask for her help, she’d had plenty of opportunities before. Why wait until now, and why do it by passing a note?

Estelle saw Mrs. Yeats give her a very subtle shake of the head.

Once the Yeats had moved a distance away, Liam Sloan inhaled sharply and leaned in. "Estelle, do you get the feeling that Mrs. Yeats is acting a bit strange?"

Estelle raised an eyebrow. "How so?"

"Everyone says Mrs. Yeats is a decisive, formidable woman," Liam continued. "She helps Old Mr. Yeats manage the Yeats family without ever making a mistake. A woman like that, who has been in power for so long with such ruthless methods, shouldn’t be showing such a helpless expression.

"Is she faking it? Is it an act? Or was her past persona the act? But if it is an act, keeping it up for twenty years is pretty incredible."

Estelle narrowed her eyes, lost in thought.

He was right. The current Mrs. Yeats seemed frail and weak, but the possibility that it was all an act couldn’t be ruled out.

What if Mrs. Yeats had some ulterior motive?

It was afternoon, and the cloudless, clear sky made it perfect for horseback riding.

The equestrian club was expansive, with horses leisurely strolling about. Evan Yeats and a few of his friends returned from a lap, and when he saw Estelle still standing in the same spot, his eyes darted around as a thought formed.

"Evan!" Mrs. Yeats frowned. "What are you up to now?"

Evan felt a surge of irritation. "Mom, can you just go ride a horse and relax? Stop breathing down my neck."

"You..." Mrs. Yeats took a deep breath, suppressing the anguish in her heart. "Evan, I’m begging you. Don’t go making trouble for Estelle, okay? If your heart doesn’t ache for her, mine does..."

"That’s enough! I’m your son! Why is your heart aching for her?!" Evan’s anger flared. He forcefully shook off Mrs. Yeats’s hand and marched furiously toward Estelle.

"Why hasn’t Miss Lockwood gone for a spin on a horse?" Evan asked, his tone arrogant and condescending.

"Does it concern you?"

Evan’s eyes darted again, suddenly arriving at a possibility. A smug smile instantly spread across his face.

He wondered if she hadn’t mounted a horse all this time simply because she didn’t know how.

He had it figured out—Estelle couldn’t ride a horse at all!

"Claire is back!"

"Claire, you’re amazing! You put the rest of us to shame!"

The young heirs Evan had brought along were all in Crestfall to expand their businesses alongside the Yeats family. Back in Capital City, they were used to being flattered and fawned over by everyone. However, they looked down on the women who threw themselves at them; they preferred a well-bred, gentle, and poised young lady like Claire Yeats.

At this moment, they were all more than happy to give their goddess some face and shower her with a few compliments.

Riding a small white horse and dressed in a white equestrian suit, Claire approached against the sunlight. A bead of sweat trickled down her face as her hair fluttered in the breeze.

She truly looked like a goddess.

Claire thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of being surrounded by admirers like the moon surrounded by stars. Her gaze swept over the crowd before landing on Nathaniel Sloan’s face, a hint of shy bashfulness appearing on her features.

"Mr. Sloan..."

"Do you want to go for a ride?" Nathaniel asked Estelle in a gentle voice, completely ignoring Claire.

Claire’s expression instantly stiffened.

Nathaniel, worried that Estelle might still be traumatized by past events, added, "I’ll go pick out a horse with you?"

Estelle actually owned a horse herself, but she could never bear to ride it. It was kept perfectly well in a private paddock. Coming here today had been a spur-of-the-moment decision, so she hadn’t brought her little horse along.

In truth, Estelle had long since moved past what Noelle Lockwood had done back then. But since Nathaniel offered to accompany her, she wouldn’t turn him down.

"Okay."

Claire watched their retreating figures, biting her lip in indignation.

How dare he ignore her?!

However, the other young heirs quickly stepped in to comfort her.

"Claire, that Mrs. Sloan is so petty."

"Exactly. You only said a few words to Mr. Sloan, and she actually threw a tantrum. What’s her problem? She completely disrespected you."

"If you ask me, a woman should be like Claire—gentle and not the jealous type. Think about it. If your wife was like Estelle, and you went out for a meal with Claire or just spoke a word to her, she’d get all angry and jealous. Could you tolerate that?"

"Of course not, haha. Claire is the best," another chimed in.

The flattery from the other men made Claire feel much better.

Estelle entered the stables.

There were many horses here. The breeding area of this high-end equestrian club was incredibly luxurious. There wasn’t the slightest foul odor, professional coaches stood by, and attendants served fresh fruit and fruit teas.

Estelle immediately took a liking to a brown horse. It was quite tall, but absolutely beautiful.

The coach respectfully untied the tether. Then, a female attendant brought over a set of equestrian clothing and led Estelle to the changing room. Upon entering, Estelle narrowed her eyes.

Someone was already waiting inside.

It was Mrs. Yeats.

Estelle turned to look at the attendant who had brought her here, but the woman merely offered a polite smile.

Estelle raised an eyebrow and looked at Mrs. Yeats. "Mrs. Yeats, is this equestrian club your property?"

If it wasn’t her property, why had someone helped her pass the note earlier? That was what Estelle couldn’t figure out. Mrs. Yeats had come to her for help, which meant she had no one she could trust by her side.

Yet, she had chosen to enlist the help of the club’s staff, which meant she trusted the people here.

Wasn’t that contradictory?

Mrs. Yeats shook her head. "I simply did the owner of this club a few favors in the early years, and he remembers my kindness, that’s all."

She pressed her lips together. "Estelle... I’m so sorry that I could only meet you this way."

Estelle couldn’t fully trust Mrs. Yeats; she would only believe half of what she said. "Mrs. Yeats, you obviously had plenty of time to ask for my help. Why did you have to wait until now, and why use such an archaic method like passing a note?"

"Estelle, there’s something you don’t know..." Mrs. Yeats pressed her lips together again. "It’s because cell phones and other devices aren’t allowed in the changing room that I can speak with you. Any other time..."

This equestrian club catered exclusively to VIPs, who valued their privacy above all else. Therefore, before entering the changing rooms, guests were required to hand their phones over to the attendants for safekeeping and undergo a check for any other electronic devices on their person.

This was to prevent anyone from secretly recording videos in the changing rooms.

Naturally, Mrs. Yeats had to follow the rules after entering.

Estelle narrowed her eyes. Was Mrs. Yeats implying that her every move was being monitored?

Was that why she had to pass a note, and why they could only meet in the changing room?

Estelle was in no rush. "If you have something you want to say, Mrs. Yeats, you might as well say it now."

"Alright, Estelle," Mrs. Yeats gently pursed her lips. "I know you must think my behavior is very abnormal and strange, right? Estelle, you’re Eleanor’s daughter, so I won’t hide this from you. In truth, I’ve been forced into many things. For example..."

She let out a heavy sigh, looking deeply ashamed. "For example, your father’s artwork. Actually, I knew all along that Evan had stolen your father’s pieces, and that those paintings were delivered by Claire."
