Monsters Die When Killed

Chapter 379 - 1: Prepare, Then Set Off

Furthermore, he neatly packed the Blade of Annihilation and the Dragon Horn Long Spear to carry with him.

’The Wisdom Tree Essence Soul has really grown this time. It’s no longer that useless little thing that could only say, "I’m hungry"... Now, it can inhabit the Dragon Horn Long Spear—which it has long infused with its Spiritual Qi—and act as a unique Attaching Spirit!’

With this thought, Su Zhou drew the long spear from his back. Faint, strange patterns of Spiritual Light flowed across the eight-foot-long Dragon Horn Long Spear. A soft chime, audible only in the Spirit Realm, rang out. A deep, cyan-green light then poured from Su Zhou’s hand into the spear, causing it to radiate a grand and holy brilliance, filled with wisdom and Spiritual Light!

"Yes!"

Finally free from the title of "the useless little thing that only eats"—after all, it was the body that produced fruit, not the soul—the Wisdom Tree Essence Soul let out a cheer. A faint, ethereal image of a Divine Wood appeared above the long spear!

Without hesitation, Su Zhou brandished the long spear and gently thrust it into the air before him. A gale instantly erupted, but Su Zhou kept it below the speed of sound. The resulting shockwave didn’t shatter the glass or any of the furniture in the Shao Family’s Old Mansion. Thus, it was impossible to see what unique effect this spear, now attached with the Spirit of Wisdom Tree, possessed, or how its power had increased.

But Su Zhou knew exactly what would have happened. If an enemy had been standing before him, they would have faced a thrust that seemed deceptively light and non-lethal for someone of the Extraordinary Tier. Yet even an opponent like Garuda or Peacock, or even one at the Zhengguo Holy Seat level, would have been undoubtedly infected by the Wisdom Tree’s Spiritual Qi and forced into a state of enlightenment!

This so-called state of enlightenment was a sudden burst of tangential thoughts, a flash of inspiration in the mind. It might sound like a good thing, not a bad one, right? But to put it bluntly, this state of enlightenment was really just spacing out.

Su Zhou was certain that if he struck with the spear containing the Spirit of Wisdom Tree, any enemy hit by the direct blow or even the aftershock wouldn’t think of counterattacking. Instead, their very first thought would be something like, ’Ah, I get it now! How profound! The path lies before me!’

As for what they actually understood, who knew? It certainly wouldn’t be a mid-battle breakthrough or a sudden inspiration on how to turn the tables. Even Su Zhou, the one attacking, had no idea what epiphany they would have, and the victims themselves would be even more clueless.

After all, it was the Wisdom Tree, not some "Breakthrough Tree," and it was on Su Zhou’s side. Under the influence of the Wisdom Tree Essence Soul, an enemy might have a sudden epiphany about the healthiest way to eat breakfast, or that you need to cook the egg first when making egg-fried rice—all sorts of trivial matters. Anything was possible, and it was all a trap.

In any case, whatever epiphany the enemy had was irrelevant to Su Zhou. That single moment of distraction was more than enough time for Su Zhou to kill them seven or eight times over.

This essentially gave Su Zhou another powerful crowd-control ability. When combined with the Nightmare Suppressing Shepherd Spirit already attached to the Dragon Horn Long Spear, the result would surely be greater than the sum of its parts.

Besides these combat-oriented weapons and Attaching Spirits, Su Zhou also packed some practical tools. These included a small knife for inscribing runes and some medicines that, while useless to him, might be precious to Otherworldly People. His previous trip to the Divine Wood World had taught him well; he already knew what was useful to bring to an Otherworld and what was pointless.

After all, this was his second trip to an Otherworld, so he was well aware of these matters.

"It might not be ancient or modern times. It could even be the future."

Seeing Su Zhou’s preparations, Yara—now larger, a whole centimeter thick and thus quite ’enormous’—remarked from its perch on Su Zhou’s shoulder, "Although I’d guess this next destination isn’t likely in the future, space Undead and cosmic Undead are not uncommon. For an ancient Great Being, your future is merely a past they have experienced countless times."

Though it sounded like Yara was subtly singing its own praises, it did have a point. Su Zhou had already considered the concept of space-faring Undead. After all, compared to humans, Undead were far more suited for exploring outer space—even more convenient than robots, it seemed. They were a life form perfectly adapted for exploring the starry sky.

"What can you do? We spent forever looking for clues but couldn’t find any ’plot’ to follow."

Su Zhou explained, shaking his head with some regret. "Honestly, the Celestial God Seal opens the Teleportation Sect, and I have to go through immediately. If I don’t, the Space-Time Sect will close and waste all the energy for the trip. If it weren’t for that, I would’ve definitely opened the Space-Time Sect to peek at the situation first, get a lay of the land, and then go explore that world."

This was a rather unsolvable problem. Unless Su Zhou could provide the Spiritual Qi to cross worlds himself, he had to rely on the aura of a Great Being found within an Evil Demon. And finding a second Shepherd of Spirits was an incredibly difficult task.

And without a ’plot’ to follow, like he had for the Divine Wood World, he couldn’t guess who the mastermind of this new world was. He would have to find out for himself.

But that was fine, too. If he knew everything in advance, the Otherworld would lose its purpose as a trial.

"While changing the ’plot’ is certainly interesting, exploring an unfamiliar game and world is one of the greatest joys for an ’explorer-type player’ like me!"
