But soon, the sound of hurried footsteps grew from a distant echo to a nearby clamor. Four full squads—eighty armored soldiers in total—were rushing from the city center, charging straight for Su Zhou!
And behind them, even more people were closing in, surrounding him from all directions.
Su Zhou had just finished a portion of grilled fish large enough for five people. ’To be honest, if I couldn’t control my sense of taste, I’d definitely be sick of it by now,’ he thought. But for a Transcendent, even a pleasant sensation could be sustained for far longer. Every time he ate his favorite food, it was as novel and delightful as the first.
’The enemy is sending people to surround me? That’s exactly what I expected.’ In fact, this was Su Zhou’s goal all along. He didn’t know his way around, had no idea where the enemy headquarters was, and couldn’t guess where they would gather. So, why not let them use him as a rallying point? That way, he could wipe them all out in one fell swoop.
"Ate my fill. Now, it’s time for some killing."
Activating the Evil-Devouring Demon Lord’s Divine Techniques, Su Zhou stood up and began to flex his wrists. A single sweep of his violet-blue Dragon Pupils revealed that while not all of the enemies were paragons of evil, even those with the faintest evil thoughts had killed at least a dozen people, placing them on the same level as the veteran bandits who had tried to rob him earlier.
"There’s really no shortage of scum in this apocalypse."
Su Zhou let out a long sigh. If that was the case, then he didn’t need to hold back. His right hand rested on his scabbard, and the glint of Thunder Light and brilliant flames began to shine. The long-awaited Blade of Annihilation had finally heard its master’s call and began to unleash its power.
In an instant, the surrounding air grew scorching hot. Arcs of electricity flashed at the far end of the street. As Su Zhou drew the four-foot-nine-inch-long black blade from its Thunderstruck Wood Blade Scabbard inch by inch, allowing the red-gold edge to touch the air, everyone around the tavern suddenly felt their mouths go dry, as if they were standing in the heart of a volcano.
"An Extraordinary Divine Object!" an adventurer standing near Su Zhou exclaimed. But even more shocked than the onlookers were the soldiers who had already begun their charge. They saw the Divine Blade in his hand, now blazing with a blinding fiery light. They scrambled to slow down, to turn and flee, but it was too late.
"Quick! Go back and tell Delron Mage!" one of them shrieked, his voice raw. "The enemy is at the peak of the Elite Tier, and he has a High-Tier Extraordinary Divine Object!"
"That’s enough to be the Lord of a sanctuary! Where did a powerhouse like this come from?!"
"Whose intel was this?!"
But there was no more time for complaints.
Now that he had advanced to the Extraordinary Tier, the moment Su Zhou gripped the Blade of Annihilation again, he knew it was a truly deserving Divine Blade. It was a divine weapon capable of creating Anomalies, even altering the weather on a small scale. He realized that if he’d had the power of the Extraordinary Tier back then, killing the Demon Emperor with this blade would have been as easy as slaughtering a dog. No wonder the Hundred Schools’ Righteous Soldiers of old believed that by forging this blade, they could launch a counteroffensive against the Demon Dynasty.
Fire Attribute Spiritual Qi circulated through his body before pouring into the Blade of Annihilation. Starting from his fingers gripping the hilt, scorching, vein-like patterns of primal majesty began to spread across the blade. He held it horizontally before him—and then, with deceptive slowness, pushed it forward.
VMMMM—!!
Amidst the piercing hum, Su Zhou unleashed a translucent flame. A gale carrying Thunder Light, forged from Spiritual Qi, coalesced into an invisible blade aura.
The blade aura swept across the street. A distorting heatwave expanded, scorching the pale gray ground black. Every stray plant and piece of debris burst into flames. Even the dust in the air ignited, turning into a rain of fire.
In an instant, the vanguard of the attacking force—several dozen men—died screaming. Their screams were brief. It wasn’t a painful death, for they were reduced to ash before they could even register the agony.
The truly wretched ones were the twenty-odd men behind them. They didn’t have the mercy of an instant death. The scorching gale washed over them, turning their full-plate armor into smoldering ovens. They were cooked like fish in a red-hot can, struggling for more than ten seconds before finally succumbing to the excruciating pain and suffocation.
One strike. The attacking enemy, completely annihilated.
By then, Su Zhou had already sheathed the Blade of Annihilation.
The surrounding adventurers had ducked back into the tavern the instant the heatwave spread. The immense fluctuation of Spiritual Qi was so powerful it made them think a dozen Elite-Tier Magical Beasts had suddenly appeared on the street. The aftershock of this power had undoubtedly spread throughout the entire sanctuary. Even adventurers deep underground would have sensed the astonishing ripple.
The guards who had been swarming menacingly from all directions were now retreating even faster than they had advanced. This time, Su Zhou got a clear look at the direction the strongest squad was fleeing. ’That must be where the headquarters for these outsider Transcendents is,’ he deduced.
’What’s next?’
’Obviously, I’ll follow them right back to their den and cut them all down!’
"Consider it a post-meal warm-up."
Su Zhou had always preferred a simple and direct approach. He was in Naisel City, and Naisel City happened to have a group of Evil People who oppressed the common folk. So, he would do the locals a favor and kill every last one of them.
’Counterattacks? Conspiracies? The possibility of defeat?’ Dealing with such problems was precisely why Su Zhou had worked so hard on his Cultivation. Now, his enemies were the ones who should be worrying about those things, not him.
"Sir, please wait—"
However, just as Su Zhou was planning to ride the momentum and annihilate the entire group, scattering their ashes to the wind before dawn, a rather young voice suddenly spoke up from behind him.
Su Zhou turned to look.
The speaker was the very same adventurer who had healed the interrogated family earlier. Like all the local Casters, he wore a hooded robe and held a wooden Magic Staff.
Facing the stern, overwhelmingly powerful Su Zhou, the adventurer hesitated but quickly firmed his resolve. He pulled down his hood, took out a specially prepared Magic Potion from within his robes, and smeared it on his face.
In an instant, the rather unremarkable-looking Caster with dark circles under his eyes transformed into a much younger, refined-looking boy, no older than thirteen or fourteen.
This youth, who was just on the cusp of his teenage years, had gray eyes and deep blue hair. He stood about five-foot-three, and at the sight of his hair and eye color, many of the local adventurers from Naisel stared, wide-eyed. They raised their hands as if to speak, and the boy himself opened his mouth, preparing to explain his identity.
"You’re the last heir of the Naisel family, aren’t you?"
The instant the boy removed his disguise, Su Zhou had noticed that the Spiritual Qi fluctuations emanating from him were extremely similar to the faint traces of Spiritual Qi left on the interrogated family from before.
So, before anyone could spoil the reveal, Su Zhou figured it out himself. He used Soul Communication, his voice calm. "You seemed like you wanted to make a move earlier. I can appreciate that. It proves that even if you’re a bit childish and naive, your heart’s in the right place."
"But if you’re trying to cozy up to me, don’t bother. I’m only here to kill Evil People. I’m not doing this for you."
