Monsters Die When Killed

Chapter 419 - 15: Supersonic Raid

It hurtled onward!

「Meanwhile.」

Within the encampment.

The Unicorn People ’Messenger’ was in the center of the encampment, gazing at the distant Naisel City, which was shrouded in the faint, hemispherical glow of the Elemental Array.

A torrential downpour assaulted the city, looking as if it might tear it down at any moment.

Seemingly bored, it lowered its head and surveyed the camp. Wraiths writhed and shrieked at each other, emitting piercing Spirit Sounds. The thick aura of death that filled the air was, to it, as sweet as nectar.

’The Era of Earth has ended. Everything will converge at the apocalypse—the living are here, and so are the dead.’

It stared at the Undead before it and muttered to itself, ’Of the forty-two Shelter Cities in the world, thirteen have already fallen. My God has recovered his ’Near God’ power... As long as we find what was left behind in the Main Divine Hall, his return to the Divine Realm is just around the corner.’

As it spoke, it subconsciously rubbed its single horn, its tone growing somewhat ashamed. ’The Main Divine Hall is very likely located beneath the Maze in Naisel City. *Sigh.* If those other messengers hadn’t met with an accident, Father God would have already recovered the power he expended at the end of the last Era to protect us, his unworthy children. If that had happened, we might have had a chance at ultimate victory in this Era.’

Although that mission failed, the benevolent God did not blame them. Instead, he gifted them even greater power... Therefore, the fact that they hadn’t found the Maze map they so desperately needed within Naisel’s hidden caches was no longer important.

The Messenger looked up indifferently at the rain-drenched sky. ’These fools from the Era of Earth think that by resisting to the end, they can delay us from finding the Divine Hall’s location? How naively laughable. If the Water God truly wanted to find His Divine Hall, how could it possibly be so complicated!’

’We just need to pour all the water from the three lakes into the Maze and drown the entirety of Naisel City. Then, no matter the entrance or terrain, it will all be as clear to us as the lines on our palms!’

This was indeed the case.

The Maze was vast, and the water from the three lakes might not be enough to fill it completely. But they didn’t need to. They only had to manipulate the water to flow through every corner, searching for possible entrances and exits. By doing so, they could fully explore the entire Maze, top to bottom, in two or three days at most.

They had already used this method to thoroughly explore the Maze around Milkson Castle. They had practiced for the Naisel City Maze and had more than enough experience.

As for how many people would die in the process... *Heh.* What did the races of the Era of Earth have to do with the races of their Era of Water?

Letting out a cold laugh, the Messenger’s tone was devoid of a single shred of pity. ’They’re all going to die in the apocalypse anyway. Besides, to truly usher in the next Era, a certain number of lives from the current Era must die. Only when all the Souls have returned to the earth will the elemental essence of the next Era surge forth from the Source of all Mazes.’

’Another Deity who has awakened this time is the Wind God. My Lord will soon face him in a decisive battle to determine the master of the next Era. The more remnants of the Era of Earth that die, the better. The sooner the true apocalypse arrives, the greater my Lord’s chances of victory will be, as he will be better prepared!’

The lifeforms of different Eras were natural-born enemies. Artificially accelerating the apocalypse was the very reason why the Messenger and the other Water God Believers were slaughtering cities... In their eyes, it wasn’t really a slaughter. After all, to the intelligent life of the Era of Water, the humans of the Era of Earth were nothing more than a group of hairless, naked apes with a bit of intelligence. For them to kill hairless, naked apes as a sacrifice was no different than hairless, naked apes killing cattle and sheep for the same purpose.

But just then, the Messenger suddenly heard a terrified voice from the front lines.

"Something’s coming from the sky—get out of the way!!!"

The Messenger recognized the voice. It belonged to an Elite Middle Tier Giant Clam Person. That race possessed thick shells, moved slowly, had powerful defenses, and could naturally control strong currents of water. While that Giant Clam Person’s power couldn’t compare to its own, its formidable defense allowed it to challenge and spar with an ordinary Extraordinary High-tier.

It was rare to hear such terror in its voice, as if it had seen something truly unbelievable.

Subconsciously, the Messenger raised its head, looking toward the patch of sky where the Giant Clam Person said something was coming from.

And then, it saw it. The sky, once completely covered by black rain clouds, was lit up by a blinding, bluish-purple fiery glow. A bizarre projectile of concentrated Magic Power, resembling both a meteor and an arrow, was hurtling down from the distant horizon directly toward them at a speed too fast for them to track!

"Wh-what?!"

The Messenger’s massive jaw dropped in astonishment. It seemed to want to say something more, but there was no time.

The bluish-purple ’arrow’ tore through the atmosphere and ripped apart the curtain of rain. It streaked across the sky in a long arc, making a beeline for the Water God Believers’ camp at full speed!

"Alert! Enemy attack!"

This shrill cry was immediately followed by the massive explosion and roar of the projectile striking its target.

The armor formed from the explosive, scorching wind shattered with a deafening crash. Shattering along with it were thousands of Resentful Souls and Undead, hundreds of Water People Soldiers, a dozen Water People Transcendents, and that one unlucky Giant Clam Person.

The earth caved in and shattered, collapsing into a crater. A mixture of mud and superheated wind swept outwards in all directions, joining a tidal wave of Spiritual Power to engulf nearly half the camp. The pale blue pillar of light that shot into the sky swayed precariously.

BOOM—RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE—

Only then did the sonic boom follow—the sound of the air itself being torn asunder.

"What in the world was that?!"

The Messenger possessed power that was considered formidable even among Extraordinary High-tiers. The impact just now had been immense, but the aftershock alone wasn’t enough to injure it. Wiping away the splattered mud—along with the bits of flesh and blood that had somehow landed on it—it stared at the center of the explosion, its gaze filled with utter disbelief.

And then, it saw him.

A staggering ’human figure’ was slowly rising from the center of the ’meteor’s’ impact site, from amidst the countless ruined corpses.

At first, he struggled to stand, as if his leg was broken. But he simply bent down, set the bone himself, and then straightened up into a normal stance.

Then, the human figure seemed to notice something. He turned his head and looked in the Messenger’s direction.

The Unicorn Person and the human locked eyes.

"Found you," he said, his voice carrying a strange accent the Water People had never heard and could not comprehend.

And a horrifying sensation shot up the Messenger’s spine, like an ice cube sliding across a red-hot iron plate.
