"Su Zhou, I suspected from the very beginning that you weren’t one of the Earth People. The reason you fought that Water God fellow was probably because he came after you first. So, after you killed the Water God, I knew you were most likely a powerful being left over from some special Era."
Facing Su Zhou’s silence, the Wind God gestured with his arms, trying to get a response. His words were sincere. "Of course, I know now that you’re a life form from an Otherworld. That being the case, you probably don’t care much about this world’s cycle of Eras, do you? You may live in a city of the Earth People, but you’re not the Earth God... So, since you have no stake in the next Era, why not just let me have it? Unlike with the Water God, there’s no reason we have to fight."
"Even if you are closer to the Earth People... you must have noticed that after so many years of apocalyptic decline, the Earth People have long since lost all their spirit. They are just barely surviving in their shelters, waiting for the end to come and pronounce their own death sentence... So why not give this chance to me?"
What the Wind God said was, indeed, correct.
There was no reason for Su Zhou and him to fight.
Su Zhou was not the Earth God. He didn’t possess the primordial Earth Element from the dawn of this world’s Eras, so he had no way of deciding what form the next Era would take.
Rather than watch the Era change into some unknown form, it would be better to give this chance to the Wind God and let him reshape it into the Era of Wind.
No, to be precise, it wasn’t a matter of "giving" it to him. Su Zhou had no motive to contend for it in the first place. The Wind God had only come hoping Su Zhou wouldn’t go crazy and try to stop him. The two truly had no reason to come to blows.
"...You don’t have much of an evil aura. Even the little you do have is about on the level of someone cutting in line. For a God, you’re practically a great saint. I imagine that in all your years of walking the mortal world, you’ve hardly killed anyone. And even if you did, it was probably because they attacked you first."
With that, Su Zhou broke the silence. He spoke softly, "You really are a decent Good God, at least for the Wind People."
"Are you agreeing?" Although he was only hearing good things, the Wind God vaguely sensed something was off. "Can I take that as a yes?"
But Su Zhou slowly shook his head, his massive Dragon’s head betraying no emotion.
Facing the frowning Wind God, the Wingless Great Dragon said calmly, "You are a true God. Like the Water God, you are a God who loves his people from the bottom of his heart. I admire you both for that."
"But admiration is not the same as agreement. Because I’m not like you. I’m an incorrigible eccentric, a freak with an unsound mind, a guy who does whatever he pleases and doesn’t listen to reason."
"When I came to this world, I didn’t just want to get the basic ’Race survival’ ending—what I want is the ’Perfect Ending,’ where the entire world can continue on and this cycle of Reincarnation is brought to an end!"
He said this as casually as if he were wishing a friend good morning. His calm words carried an undercurrent of extreme abnormality, yet also an incredibly firm Determination. "Every living being left in this Era, no matter who they are, I want to save them all. If I can’t, that’s my problem. If I can, that’s my skill. But I will strive for it."
"Wind God, I am not opposing you. If I fail, then naturally I won’t interfere with your efforts to influence the next Era. But until I fail, I cannot give you that guarantee. As long as you don’t make a move against me, I won’t make a move against you."
"...You also have a firm determination, and a reason that is enough to convince yourself."
After a long silence, the Wind God slowly nodded. He said as much, then laughed. "As I thought, it’s difficult to convince other intelligent life forms with words alone. In the end, it still comes down to force."
This was inevitable.
If Su Zhou hadn’t voiced his own ambitions, the Wind God might have been able to believe that Su Zhou, as a visitor from an Otherworld with no reason to obstruct him, would not interfere with his transition to the Era of Wind.
But now that Su Zhou had revealed his thoughts about this world, the Wind God, faced with the powerful being who had killed the Water God, could not possibly gamble the future of his people on the hope that Su Zhou wouldn’t interfere.
The god and the man had no basis for mutual trust.
"How about this, Su Zhou. The two of us will have a duel. Unlike your battle with the Water God, we’ll go to an empty area, where we won’t interfere with anyone and it won’t involve any civilians. Just a fair duel between the two of us, a full-powered contest. If I win, you don’t interfere with me. If I lose, you can do as you please. The outcome of the fight doesn’t matter, life or death. No holding back."
As he spoke, the Wind God’s aura began to skyrocket. At the exit of the Maze, an invisible gale began to swirl, causing the surrounding wind Spiritual Qi to churn. His gray-haired human form started to slowly levitate, enveloped by the gale, his entire body flowing with a pale, cyan Spiritual Light of Magic Power.
"Have you ever killed an innocent?"
Su Zhou, who was still crouching on the ground, paid no mind to the Wind God who was already entering a battle stance. He didn’t even answer the god’s proposal, instead asking a question of his own in a relaxed tone.
"Did you not hear me clearly?"
To be honest, the Wind God felt that Su Zhou had entered a state that was a bit difficult to communicate with, so he repeated himself. "Just a duel between the two of us—that’s all. You don’t have to hold back, and naturally, I won’t either. In fact, if you can kill me, that’s your skill. And I will, at the very least, beat you until you’re paralyzed and can no longer obstruct me from transitioning to the next Era."
"Have you ever committed a massacre?"
Su Zhou turned a deaf ear to the threat hidden in the Wind God’s words, simply continuing to ask his own questions.
"Hey!"
At this point, the Wind God was truly exasperated. A massive rift had already split open behind the gray-haired man’s human form, revealing a pair of wasp-like wings. His gaze grew dangerous. "If you won’t kill me, then I’ll have to come and kill you—does that not matter to you at all? Then why on earth did you fight the Water God?"
"Or are you saying that you care more about the lives of those ordinary Earth People than your own?"
"Of course it’s the lives of ordinary people!"
The giant Wingless White Dragon slowly rose to its feet. As Su Zhou stretched his wrists and neck, the grooves and patterns between his scales began to glow with a violet Spiritual Light and crackle with arcs of electricity. He spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world:
"If you make a move on me, you’re the one who’ll have bad luck—but if you make a move on others, it’s innocent, ordinary people who’ll suffer!"
"Besides, at the end of the day, since I don’t think it’s wrong for me to kill any being I deem ’guilty,’ I certainly don’t think it’s ’evil’ for any being to kill me. For all I know, in their eyes, I might be pure evil, right?"
He said this in a cheerful tone, then reiterated one last time, "Wind God, I’m just going to ask one question, and after you answer, we can start fighting. Have you ever killed an innocent, ordinary person?"
"I know I’ve asked before, but this time, I’m asking you seriously."
As he spoke, a violet Evil-Devouring Demon Fire began to slowly wreathe around him. The Divine Techniques of the Evil-Devouring Demon Lord were fully activated. In this state, when it came to words related to good and evil, Su Zhou was like the incarnation of a Bi’an; he could see through the Wind God’s lies at a single glance.
"No!"
At this point, the Wind God laughed, infuriated by Su Zhou’s inexplicable attitude. The gray-haired man’s body immediately began to twist and transform amidst a surging Spiritual Light. His voice, filled with rage, was accompanied by a sudden, violent Spiritual Pressure that intensified several times over, and a hurricane that blew away even the dark clouds in the sky. A grayish-yellow giant insect—not particularly large, but extremely dangerous and terrifying—appeared before the Wingless Great Dragon.
It was a giant wasp, twenty to thirty meters large. It had long, slender arms and enormous wasp wings. At the ends of its arms were a Storm Spear, like a Knight’s long spear, and a Thunderstorm Spear that flashed with Thunder Light and spiraling tornadoes.
One could see the gales churning against each other, generating brilliant sparks of electricity from the friction in the air. The giant wasp’s tail also had a sharp, black metal stinger, which was secreting a black poison so dangerous you could tell just by looking at it.
The Wind God’s massive True Body was revealed. He could no longer speak, but the sound of his vibrating wings could tear the very atmosphere, emitting a fragmented buzzing sound. Each flap of his wings seemed to create countless illusions behind him, as well as a series of storm shields that swirled around his body.
Clearly, the Wind God had no intention of talking with Su Zhou any further.
"In that case."
After hearing the Wind God’s answer, Su Zhou nodded in satisfaction. But the Spiritual Light wreathing the Giant Dragon’s body also grew more incandescent, more dangerous. "Then by the standards I’ve set, you don’t deserve to die."
He used a phrase that was both self-evident and utterly baffling as the opening salvo for this battle. "Since you haven’t killed anyone, you will obediently stay alive—a creature that doesn’t commit evil is worthy of dying by my hand?"
"We’ll see who kills who!"
The Wind God’s Soul Communication came through, filled with rage. "I was wrong about you, Su Zhou! You’re nothing but an arrogant Monster!"
"No need to praise my good qualities."
Su Zhou grinned, baring his fangs and a throat that was already beginning to overflow with Thunder Light and flames. He laughed heartily. "Well then, it’s time to fight! I’m going to use my full power, too."
"Blade, come to me!"
A sharp cry echoed across the sky.
And several kilometers away, the Blade of Annihilation, which was embedded in the center of Naisel City’s main square, immediately shot into the air amidst a flash of electrical arcs. It tore through the air and flew off into the distance!
