Then, soon after, while on the sixth floor of the Maze, Su Zhou and the Wind God found their target.
The corpse of a colossal Giant.
The Giant’s corpse was nearly three thousand meters long, even larger than the massive Water God, and resembled a true mountain range.
Even though only bones remained, the sheer presence of the massive, pale brown skeleton seemed capable of supporting the entire world.
These were the remains of the Earth God’s True Body, from when He was at the peak of His power in the Divine Realm.
His bones were covered in dense elemental inscriptions and glowed with the light of the Earth Element. Surrounding them, thick clusters of Earth Elemental Crystals grew like a forest. A vast number of Magical Beasts from the Era of Earth lived nearby, completely out of place with the normal ecology of the Maze’s sixth floor.
Su Zhou broke off a piece of the Earth God’s skeleton and stored it in Elias’s Space Ring, letting it keep company with the primal element of the Water God.
The Earth God’s body was positioned headfirst, plunging downward. It seemed He had been trying to probe the depths of the earth, or perhaps it was simply a ritual requirement.
Regardless, the Earth God’s corpse pierced through three floors of the Maze. His body passed through the sixth, seventh, and eighth floors, which contained His legs, torso, and arms and head, respectively.
Following the Earth God’s skeleton, Su Zhou and the others traveled through the Maze at top speed, reaching the bottom of the eighth floor where the God’s skull and outstretched arms were located.
This place was also a ’Netherworld’ from the Era of Water. However, unlike the Maze surrounding Naisel City, this eighth floor of the world’s Central Grand Maze contained not just abundant water vapor, but a veritable subterranean ocean. Within this dark sea of the Maze, vast schools of blind fish that could survive without light swam about, and numerous bioluminescent deep-sea fish thrived.
In this unique environment, Su Zhou even spotted some old acquaintances: a massive number of sea cucumbers. Of course, the sea cucumbers here didn’t have the good fortune to transform into Dragons. They were at the bottom of the food chain, devoured as snacks by various powerful, deep-sea Magical Beasts.
Using Water Assistance, which had been enhanced by the Water God’s Evil Soul, Su Zhou maintained a large bubble of air within the Maze’s ocean, allowing the Wind God and Elias to move freely.
The seafloor of this ocean was their final destination—the very place the Wind God had told Su Zhou about.
"Beneath the Netherworld, at the very center of the world, lies the so-called ninth floor of the Maze. The first element of the next Era gestates there. As long as a Divine Being imbues it with their own primal element before the end arrives, the next Era will become the Era of that Divine Being’s element."
The Wind God, who had witnessed the changing of several Eras, gazed at the Earth God’s remains and the direction His massive, skeletal hand was pointing. He sighed softly, "In previous Eras, at this point in time, at least two Divine Beings would be locked in a great battle deep within this Maze. Their immense power would tear apart the barrier between the eighth and ninth floors. The resulting surge of Elemental Power would cause the element of the next Era to manifest."
"However, the power of the Divine Beings is more or less equal. Even a slightly weaker one is fully capable of ensuring mutual destruction. Therefore, in every past Era, the conflict always reached a point where the Divine Beings would annihilate each other, leaving the New Era to be born naturally."
"But this time is different."
Su Zhou said, stepping forward. Spiritual Power surged from his body, and in the next instant, with a flash of Spiritual Light, he transformed once more into his Wingless Great Dragon form. "The Water God is dead by my hand, the Earth God performed a self-sacrifice, and according to you, the Fire God self-destructed and died, unable to even enter the cycle of Reincarnation. You’re the last Divine Being left. If I fail, you’ll succeed by default."
"Perhaps you can become the first victorious Divine Being in all of known history?"
"That’s not victory. That’s a handout."
The Wind God, too, returned to his true divine form in a flash of Magic Power. A violent gale of the Wind Element swirled around him, whipping the surrounding seawater into a tidal surge as tangible vortexes of air churned nearby.
The next instant, both Su Zhou and the Wind God unleashed their most powerful attacks in the direction the Earth God’s corpse was pointing, bombarding the area.
A furious Breath combining Wind Thunder, water, and fire vaporized the surrounding deep-sea water. The Wind God’s Long Spear, capable of piercing anything in existence, churned up immense waves and currents. The two powers struck that patch of earth at the same time. Their combined force even triggered the residual power of the Earth God—a heavy pulse emanated from His corpse and converged at His fingertip. The three distinct powers collided and then violently detonated.
And just like that, the path from the eighth floor of the Netherworld Maze to the ninth was blasted open.
If Su Zhou’s power of water element was considered an extension of the Water God’s, then this attack had brought together the three great Elements of wind, water, and earth—everything except for the element that would represent the next Era, the potential ’Era of Fire.’ The powers of successive Eras had, in this strange way, joined forces.
Su Zhou’s gaze was deep as he stared at the opening that had been blasted open—the path to the next floor, the ’ninth floor of the Maze’ that no one had ever reached. His heart churned with a mixture of nervousness and anticipation.
