’If the "Erosion Percentage" on the Celestial God Scale represents the degree to which a Great Being has eroded its Sealed World...’
’Then in the Divine Wood World back then, it was only a little over twenty percent. The Divine Wood hadn’t grown to its complete form, and not only did the power of the Tree of the Great Dao fail to erode that world, it was almost driven back by the Indigenous People. Even without my help, defeating the Demon Emperor would have probably just been a matter of time.’
’But the Erosion Percentage of the Silent Lord World is 79.84%, almost eighty percent. If the Gray Mist and the Maze, or even this entire cyclical Era, are considered avatars of the Silent Lord, then it’s on the verge of completely controlling this Sealed World and breaking free from its Seal!’
This was also what puzzled Su Zhou. If the Silent Lord were as active as the Tree of the Great Dao, then given its erosion level, any physical avatar it had would surely be towering in the world’s center, just like the Immortal Banyan Tree.
But in reality, it had done nothing. Su Zhou couldn’t see any conspicuous changes the Silent Lord had made to this world. It simply watched in silence. Even after a thorough search of the entire world, no physical entity could be found.
This was no exaggeration—at Su Zhou and the Wind God’s speed, it wouldn’t take more than a few days to patrol the entire world. If the Silent Lord truly had a distinct physical form, it would have been impossible for them to miss with their keen perception. In fact, they did discover a few scattered human settlements tucked away in remote corners and brought all several thousand of them back to Naisel City.
Other than them, all other humans had already entered the Maze—the Netherworld—to survive.
Since there was no sign of the Silent Lord in the outside world, if it truly existed, the only possibility was that it was inside the Maze. The most likely location would be the Central Grand Maze, where the Earth God’s corpse was located.
’Whether it has a physical body or not, as long as I express my intention to change this world and end this cycle of Reincarnation, it will surely appear and try to stop me.’
With this thought in mind, Su Zhou and the Wind God exchanged a look. And so, they led Elias through the massive fissure and descended into the ninth level of the Maze.
But to their disappointment, there was no sign of the Silent Lord’s avatar here.
It had done nothing.
The ninth level of the Maze was an immense region of lava.
An ocean of golden-red magma flowed slowly and churned in the vast, deep underground. From time to time, lava bubbles would burst, splattering sparks and releasing unimaginable heat.
Even the eighth level’s Water Maze was affected by it, heated until hydrothermal vents formed on the seafloor.
Even in the Underground Maze beneath Naisel City, the temperature had been gradually rising. Moreover, the entrance between the seventh and eighth levels was a subterranean hot spring itself. Thinking of this, Su Zhou couldn’t help but speculate— ’Are the Mazes spread all over the world’s underground somehow connected? Is that why they appear so uniformly and have such similar structures?’
At that moment, water from the eighth level of the Maze was surging through the passage Su Zhou and the Wind God had blasted open, pouring into the ninth level’s sea of magma. The instant it touched the magma, it vaporized. Superheated, white steam billowed into distorted waves of air, shrouding the area where the two levels met. For Elias’s safety, Su Zhou and the Wind God quickly retreated from the area.
Just after they left the area, a series of violent, earth-shaking rumbles echoed out. The corpse of the Earth God began to slide slowly into the ninth level of the Maze. Without the ground to support it, how could its immense weight be held by a mere hollowed-out layer of earth? And so, the two humans and one god present watched as the massive, several-thousand-meter-long Divine Body submerged into the magma. The vast Earth Element, which held the entirety of the Divine Being’s power, was utterly consumed by the flames, gradually transforming into surging Fire Element.
"Fire, wind, water, earth. Then back to fire again... This is the natural cycle, the law of the elements’ circulation..."
Gazing at the scene, Elias murmured, "Flame is born from the depths of the earth, and the temperature rises ever higher. As a result, the soil on the surface dries out, the fertile land turns to ash, and the clouds disappear. With the Elements out of balance, they stagnate... The world is destroyed, but in the same way, it will also be reborn."
Despite his fear and sorrow, the young man of the Earth People did his best to watch the body of his Era’s God as it transformed into nourishment for the next Era. His voice was filled with bewilderment. "Can we really survive into the next Era, Mr. Su...?"
"That’s precisely why I’m here. Trust me."
Su Zhou’s simple answer quelled the fear in Elias’s heart. He recalled everything Su Zhou had done since arriving in this world and suddenly felt a sense of reassurance rise within him, though he didn’t know why.
Su Zhou and the others set off again, searching for the core of the ninth level of the Maze.
It wasn’t hard to find, for it was so obvious, so completely undisguised.
THOOM—THOOM—THOOM—
In the ninth level of the Maze, in the area with the most immense energy fluctuations, Su Zhou, the Wind God, and even Elias—who was only at the Awakening Tier—all heard a colossal ’pulsing’ sound. It was just like the heartbeat of the world.
