Long, long ago, nothing humanity could comprehend existed. The Void was a barren ruin, where only endless Stardust and debris drifted.
They were like the insignificant remnants of countless destroyed worlds.
In the freezing Void, these Stardust-like remnants began to coalesce, drawn together by some unseen force and the mutual gravity of matter, like tiny droplets of water merging into one.
Eventually, they reformed and gathered, creating the prototype of a small New World.
Then, it began to burn.
Flame burned. An intense blaze incinerated all that was superfluous: all Chaos, all indistinguishable dregs, and all the excess, jumbled information within the Void. This returned the nascent world to purity, to Order and stability.
Finally, the world’s Source burned with scorching intensity, giving rise to an endless, upward-rushing Gale.
[The first Flame burned, performing a Purification of the Dark and Chaos. Its scorching power gave rise to the Gale. This was the wind born from fire.]
[This was the very first Era.]
In the First Era, dust that condensed within the Flame gathered to form a continent. It floated at the very apex of the Gale, and the world drifted within this great wind. This was the age of Sky Islands.
Giant Kun-insects roamed this domain. The most exceptional among them, who obtained the heart of the Gale itself, became their Divine Beings and their king.
[Afterward, as the Flame gradually died, the searing air at the apex of the Gale cooled. The hot wind froze and condensed into water, which fell as an endless deluge. This was the water born from wind.]
The world in the sky plummeted with the downpour, falling toward the extinguished world Source. Endless water, accompanied by the endless Gale and rain, gathered into a great sea. The world drifted in this sea. This was the age of the deep sea.
Countless Giant Beasts of the sea were born within it. The fortunate among them, those who obtained the heart of the ocean, became their Divine Beings and their king.
[Then, as the Gale gradually ceased, the rain falling from the world’s apex stopped. In the depths of the ocean, water began to condense into land. The entire ocean solidified. This was the Earth born from water.]
The endless sea gradually solidified. The Giant Beasts suffocated in the mud, now unable to swim, their bodies becoming fossils deep beneath the ground. The hardened ocean floor buckled, thrusting up mountain ranges and basins, becoming continents and jungles. Countless land-beasts thrived there, and the wisest among them, who obtained the heart of the Earth, became their Divine Beings and their king.
[Finally, as all water transformed into Earth, all life was on the verge of desiccation. A scorching Flame was born from the immense pressure and friction deep within the ground. This blazing Flame, poised to incinerate heaven and earth, would herald the rebirth of a generation of Flame. This was the fire born from Earth.]
—In the Era of Wind, the Flame dies. Heaven and earth are left without wind, so the Sky Islands fall. The Gale condenses into rain, giving birth to the great seas of the Era of Water.
—In the Era of Water, the wind ceases. Heaven and earth are no longer moist, so the world hardens. The great oceans transform into Earth, giving birth to the great lands of the Era of Earth.
—In the Era of Earth, the water solidifies. Heaven and earth are no longer bountiful, so the continents dry out. The planet’s core collapses into fire, giving birth to the flames of the Era of Fire.
—In the Era of Fire, the Earth is consumed by flames. The blazing inferno produces smoke; its embers create wind, and its ash condenses into a continent. This initial cycle of Reincarnation repeats, time and again giving birth to a new Era of Wind.
The Four Great Elements alternate and mix. Though each age appears to belong to a single Element, it is always connected to the others. This process of mutual transformation is an endless cycle.
In this endless cycle of Eras and Reincarnation, there are always a few—the lucky, the wise, the powerful. They become what intelligent life calls Divine Beings.
They are the symbols of their Era, the embodiment of the collective wish of all life within it. And for this very reason—because of the endless yearning and faith of their people—these Deities, etched into the memory of their Era, will awaken time and again from the Netherworld. They attempt to use their own power to alter the process of Reincarnation and remake the Era in their own image, for themselves and for their people.
And the world gently answers their wish.
No matter who they are, no matter their Element, so long as they can find the core of the next Era at the end of their own, their wish will be granted.
After all, no matter what is changed or transformed, the Reincarnation will not stop. This ever-repeating, eternal cycle will never truly change, not even if a few processes are altered or a few steps are skipped.
[Change it as you will. Change it as you please. Destroy the world or remake it, it matters not. The authority to reshape the world is here. I grant you the Source Element as well. This is your world and your paradise... But when will you finally transcend this world and this paradise?]
[If one says that the eternally blissful Eden—where one works at sunrise and rests at sunset—is itself an eternal, unending Reincarnation of ’yesterday once more,’ then what of the first man and woman? When, tempted by the serpent, they ate the ’poisonous’ forbidden fruit they never would have touched before, and thus gained the ability to distinguish good from evil... can they be said to have broken the cycle?]
[They would be forced to endure suffering, to be exiled from paradise... But... why not?]
This small world, this realm of Reincarnation, repeats the Eras of alternating Elements. Generation after generation of life thrives and decays, experiences Rebirth and death, just like the Eden established by God.
