Monsters Die When Killed

Chapter 494 - 8: You Will Never Know What the Ancestors Have Done

Daoist Saint, Zhang Qingyun, of Zhengyi Academy’s direct lineage, a descendant of the original Celestial Master line, Extraordinary Peak Rank.

Born in 1949, currently 67 years old. He has a rosy complexion, jet-black hair, and a lean, refined face. He usually prefers to wear short black robes or deep blue Daoist vestments. His favorite food is the osmanthus and fermented rice soup his wife makes by hand, and his greatest pleasure is sipping a cup of homemade herbal tea after cultivation. He has two daughters, one son, and five grandchildren.

He is currently the honorary president of Zhengyi Academy and one of Zhengguo’s current Holy Seats, the ’Daoist Saint’.

Aside from being born into the Zhang Family, the Ancient Heavenly Master Family, Zhang Qingyun was, in essence, an outstanding but unremarkable cultivator.

He had normal hobbies, no bad habits, and none of the messy obsessions or mental eccentricities common to others. His values were upright, and his personality was amicable and friendly.

He used his extraordinary talent for ordinary cultivation, ordinary advancement, and ordinary study of Daoist Techniques. Alongside many colleagues and scholars, he painstakingly converted the Extraordinary Power exclusive to cultivators into designs and inventions that could benefit the public. And in the end, he ordinarily inherited his predecessor’s title, becoming the Daoist Saint.

This was the trajectory of Zhang Qingyun’s life for the past sixty-odd years.

The thing he was most proud of in his life, aside from leading the team that designed the complete set of maglev high-speed rail equipment currently in service in Zhengguo, was guiding an unexpected genius. This genius was Su Zhou, a descendant of the Dragon Blood Race from Zhengguo’s Hongzhou, and Zhang Qingyun had set him on the righteous path of fighting for Zhengguo Civilization and contributing to the modernization of its Spiritual Qi.

From the very first time he met Su Zhou, Zhang Qingyun had keenly sensed that a ferocious beast dwelled within the young man’s heart.

That beast eyed everything around it with predatory hunger. It was never satisfied and cared nothing for the rules and etiquette of the human world. It was just like their first meeting at the Spiritual Qi assessment camp, where Su Zhou had shown little respect for his status as a Holy Seat.

But this vicious beast was not evil in essence. It always pursued a good outcome but didn’t mind using the most wicked methods to achieve it.

Take, for example, Su Zhou’s recent operation to capture criminals around Hongzhou. If he hadn’t possessed national law enforcement authority from the Zhengguo Security Bureau, with the status of a law enforcement officer to restrain him, Zhang Qingyun had no doubt what the Hongzhou police would have encountered. It wouldn’t have been the ’cushy job’ of being urgently dispatched in the middle of the night to apprehend over a hundred criminals in a row. Instead, it would have been the ’National Major Malicious Homicide Incident,’ requiring them to urgently rush out and collect more than a dozen corpses and dozens of criminals who had been beaten to within an inch of their lives.

If someone like Su Zhou were allowed to act as some kind of Dark Knight, he would truly be capable of such things. After all, he was of the Dragon Race, not some bat in spandex.

Therefore, Zhang Qingyun had deliberately guided Su Zhou into Zhengguo’s official system. The old man carefully used honor, power, mutual respect, and a vision for the future—using these ’methods’—to slowly and carefully transform the beast’s power into ’our’ power.

And, as much as possible, he made Su Zhou use kind and legal means to achieve his goals.

And now, the beast in Su Zhou’s heart had bared a fang at him... It wasn’t hostility. Rather, it was asking a question—asking which ’enemy’ it should attack, which flesh it should tear.

Su Zhou asked, confused, "Why is the Zhengguo Government so nervously pushing one radical plan after another, plans that could even be said to defy common human decency?"

’Whether it’s the New Human project or the Artificial Netherworld, these are things that would cause mass panic and a public outcry! If they were actually implemented, God knows how violently human society would react!’

Zhang Qingyun knew that Su Zhou had noticed it—Zhengguo’s urgency hidden beneath a calm surface, the posture of a nation sprinting at full speed as if being chased.

’It’s time to tell him the truth.’

With this thought, Zhang Qingyun gazed at the young man before him. He had already reached the Commander Tier. Compared to his previous Extraordinary Tier self, who was merely the ’number one of the global younger generation’ for publicity’s sake, the Su Zhou of today was, without a doubt, the world’s number one.

Great power could naturally bear greater responsibility.

So, he found a chair, casually sat down, and gestured for Su Zhou to sit as well.

"You’re right, we are in a hurry. Not just Zhengguo, but all the major powers around the world are in a hurry."

The old man said with a smile, his expression encouraging Su Zhou to continue. "Voice all of your doubts. That way, I can answer them for you one by one."

"Alright, Daoist Saint. I believe that right now, there isn’t a single Extraordinary Influence on Earth capable of upsetting the balance. The largest Extraordinary Organizations are, without exception, all extensions of their nations’ will."

"Whether it’s the Spirit Summoning Association or the Continuous Prayer Meeting, they’re nothing more than a pesky rash, operating in the shadows. Just let me know where their lairs are, and I guarantee I’ll be scattering their ashes into the Pacific Ocean the very next day."

After sitting down, Su Zhou dispensed with all pleasantries. He laced his fingers together, rested his hands on the table, and said with immense confidence, "Even the Beast God Realm, which currently seems to be the greatest threat, can’t possibly attack and invade us as long as we guard the entrance. As long as our upcoming operation confirms that the Tree of Life, a Celestial Venerable Level entity, shows no signs of reviving, then they’re nothing to worry about either."

"As for the return of the Immortal Gods, that’s a distant prospect at best. The Celestial Pool Dragon King wouldn’t lie to us about this; They truly aren’t coming back... If that’s the case, then the Human World has no external enemies right now."
