Monsters Die When Killed
Chapter 506 - 13: Could You Sign an Autograph for Me?June 12, 2016.
The mission to the Beast God Realm was currently one of Earth’s highest-level secrets. Therefore, Su Zhou’s official destination was the Deep Sea Celestial Pool Dragon King Ruins, where he would supposedly be comprehending the Dragon King’s True Body.
In reality, however, he had arrived at the Kunlun Secret Realm three days prior.
To say the least, the Kunlun Secret Realm’s ancient and dilapidated atmosphere had completely vanished. Most of the palace ruins were now cordoned off by construction tarps, and the moss that once covered the buildings had long since been collected for research as a unique Spiritual Qi moss sample from the Secret Realm.
For the past three days, Su Zhou had been residing in one of the Immortal Divine Palaces within the Kunlun Secret Realm, getting an early taste of what it was like to be treated as one of the Immortal Gods.
’The teams from Ross Country, the European Union, and the American Federation have already arrived and are currently getting ready. The teams from Fusang and Zhu Country are in the second batch and won’t be here for a few more days... Hmm, have all the reasonably powerful nations sent a team?’
At that moment, Su Zhou was leafing through the files on the multinational alliance’s forces.
The primary objective of this operation into the Beast God Realm was reconnaissance and infiltration, so for the main operatives, it was a matter of quality over quantity. Each faction’s core team consisted of only ten members, and they would infiltrate in batches along different routes when the operation began.
This way, even if one team was discovered, the others could use the distraction—with the Beast God Realm’s forces drawn away—to more easily infiltrate its very heart.
As for the other official Transcendents not on the strike teams, they were responsible for constructing a permanent fortification in the Beast God Realm. This would be Earth’s first foothold hammered into their world, as well as the main point to attract enemy fire.
As Earth’s first and only Commander Tier, there weren’t many Cultivators from other nations that Su Zhou needed to know about. Conversely, any Cultivator he *did* need to know about was, without a doubt, a truly recognized Powerhouse.
’Rafael "Rest" Grail: sixty-three years old, European Union, Extraordinary Peak, specialization in Sealing Skills. This old gentleman is only a little younger than the Daoist Saint.’
’Anjie "Meteor" Ilyich: forty-six years old, Ross Country, Extraordinary Peak, specialization in Spiritual Martial Arts. This guy’s arms look thicker than my waist.’
’Aistena, "Rock Tower": forty-seven years old, American Federation, Extraordinary Peak. Even though his nickname is Rock Tower, which mostly refers to his physique, he’s actually a Holy Light User—a Caster.’
Of course, the information in the files wasn’t this concise, but all Su Zhou really needed to know were their names and faces. As for their abilities and combat styles, those were certainly being concealed. For example, everyone thought Su Zhou was of the Thunder Dragon Bloodline and that his greatest strength was the Thunder Technique, but as for the real story... who knew?
In any case, it’s better to take things with a grain of salt. The same applied to these files. If these fellow human Transcendents ever truly came to blows one day, everyone involved would surely be in for a big surprise.
All in all, the first batch of teams entering the Beast God Realm consisted of four teams and forty people—not even fifty in total.
But among these forty people, with the exception of a few special talents like Tang Yuan, the average level was basically Extraordinary High-tier.
Even if the Beast God Realm had also experienced a surge in overall power due to the Spiritual Energy Revival, it wasn’t that long ago that an Extraordinary High-tier Divine Bird Peacock could serve as a Beast King. So, as long as the other side didn’t have a Monster on Su Zhou’s level, their strongest combatants were at most at the Extraordinary Peak.
In other words, the conventional forces of the Beast God Realm stood virtually no chance of stopping this small contingent unless the various Divine Beast lineages joined forces and dispatched the strongest Powerhouses of their respective races to intercept them.
It was a no-brainer that this was impossible—unless the bonds between the various Divine Beast races were far closer than they imagined.
"The Beast God Realm’s overall strength is definitely weaker than ours, but we can’t be careless," the Math Saint, who was in charge of coordinating the operation, had told Su Zhou. "Unlike us of the Human Race, Divine Beasts are born with Divine Techniques. As long as they don’t seek a deeper understanding and aren’t concerned with taking that final step to become an Overlord Earth Immortal, it’s much easier for them to reach the Commander Tier than it is for us."
"Therefore, for this operation, we must also consider the possibility of confronting Commander Tier Beast Kings—even multiple ones. After all, while the Beast God Realm might sound primitive, it’s still a primitive world with a large number of Divine Beasts."
Su Zhou naturally understood. He himself was an example of someone with innate Divine Techniques. As long as a Divine Beast was willing to pay the price, cultivate diligently, and accumulate Spiritual Qi, breaking through to the Initial Stage Commander Tier wasn’t difficult. Even so, he didn’t believe a Divine Beast from the Beast God Realm capable of stopping him could possibly exist.
However, just as Su Zhou was looking over the files on the others, someone in a spacious, specially isolated camp in the Kunlun Secret Realm—one set aside for the foreign teams—was looking over a file on him.
"This analysis says practically nothing, doesn’t it?"
In the temporary camp, a team flying the flag of the European Union was busy with final preparations. Nearly ten Extraordinary Powerhouses were currently adjusting their conditions, while the others inspected various setups for Magic Arrays, all kinds of Magic Scrolls, and the state of their advanced weaponry.
In the center of the camp, an elderly man who was clearly the leader frowned and put down the report in his hands. His tone was solemn. "The Daoist Saint, Zhang Qingyun... they’re old friends. We’re very familiar with them. But this Su Zhou, who’s rumored to be at the Commander Tier... besides knowing he’s of the Dragon Blood Race and skilled with the Thunder Technique, we have basically no information on him."
"Tell me about it," a rather young female voice complained from the old man’s side. She was a woman with short, brown hair and black eyes, her brow also slightly furrowed. "Zhengguo has almost completely classified all information about him. Everything we can see is just what Zhengguo wants us to see."
"Let’s pay him a visit in person," the old man said, shaking his head after a moment of contemplation. "Some things you just can’t believe until you see them with your own eyes. A Commander Tier in his twenties... even with the explosive growth from the Spiritual Energy Revival, that figure is just too outrageous."
"Let’s go, Selos."
"Yes, Grandfather."
And how could Su Zhou’s Spiritual Sense be anything but sharp? He had identified the approaching pair, one old and one young, by their Spiritual Qi auras long before they got close.
The visitors were Rafael "Rest" Grail and his granddaughter, Selos Grail.
Rafael was the publicly acknowledged strongest Powerhouse in Europe’s official Transcendent organization, the Harmony Bureau. He was also the most powerful Sealing Skill Cultivator known today. His specialty wasn’t direct combat, but rather designing targeted Sealing Orbits for his objectives after gathering extensive intelligence. It was said that his Sealing Skills were so powerful he could directly Seal an Extraordinary Tier Magical Beast within a stone statue or even a card, only to release and control it in battle when needed.
The photograph in the file showed a kind-faced, gray-haired Western gentleman wearing gold-rimmed glasses. He was dressed in a black leather coat and black gloves. The old man’s build wasn’t particularly robust, and a faint smile played on his lips, his gaze toward the camera exceedingly gentle.
But Su Zhou knew the truth. That black coat and gloves were actually covered in densely packed Sealing Arrays and simple Orbits targeting nearly every Extraordinary Species. Anyone who actually thought Rafael needed to gather intel on the spot before drawing a Sealing Array had ended up sealed on the spot themselves.
Funnily enough, this Mr. Grail had been rivals for many years with the previous old Leader of the Holy Snake Spirit Prayer Association before the Spiritual Energy Revival. Unfortunately, that old Leader had died an ignominious death at Su Zhou’s hands two years ago. Otherwise, this might have set the stage for another duel of Destiny.
As for Selos, Su Zhou felt a faint sense of familiarity. ’Where have I heard that name so many times before?’
He quickly remembered. Wasn’t she the new judge Qiming had mentioned, the one who had almost replaced him on the panel? ’I didn’t expect her to come along this time,’ he thought. ’Her strength is only at the Extraordinary Early Stage. I wonder if she’s just here to pad her resume or if she actually has some special ability.’
Meanwhile, Rafael and Selos immediately sensed Su Zhou’s spiritual will reaching out to them from afar, along with a trace of Suppression that grew stronger as his attention focused on them.
The rising Suppression and Spiritual Pressure triggered a change in the Spiritual Qi so palpable it was like a Gale blasting them head-on. The two of them felt their breathing grow difficult in an instant, forcing them to a halt, as if the very air had been cowed by this power and refused to be inhaled by anyone else.
In both Eastern and Western novels, most true Powerhouses hide themselves or pretend to be ordinary people, living among the masses and practicing the philosophy that "the greatest recluse hides in the city." But in reality, this concept doesn’t actually hold up.
As a Cultivator’s power grows, so does their influence on the surrounding Spiritual Qi. Unless these beings who have surpassed the Mortal World actively conceal themselves, anomalous celestial phenomena will follow them wherever they go. Even their death can trigger immense environmental changes. It might be like a whale fall, giving rise to a small Spiritual Qi ecosystem and creating a blessed land. Or it could be a grand fireworks display, annihilating tens of thousands of people.
In summer, a hand fan can cool one person, an electric fan can bring comfort to a group, and an air conditioner can regulate the temperature of an entire hall, making dozens of people feel like they’ve returned to paradise. But when a true winter arrives, it can reverse one’s line of thinking, making them desperate for warmth.
This was the influence of a Powerhouse. The stronger they were, the more they could affect. The current Su Zhou was, at the very least, the central air conditioning for a department store; he could alter the nature of Spiritual Qi over a vast area and cause all sorts of Anomalies to form around him—for instance, trailing fire as he walked, being wreathed in orbs of light, or causing the air to stagnate.
At this moment, Rafael and Selos clearly sensed Su Zhou’s terrifying might, which was enough to affect all the Spiritual Qi within a nearly thousand-meter radius. He hadn’t even appeared, yet with a mere flicker of his thoughts, turbulence began to surge through the air, and the magnetic field started to fluctuate!
"I never imagined... To think he’s really this powerful!"
Standing in the middle of the path, the gray-haired old man’s expression was grave. Though they had yet to meet face-to-face, he already knew that the young man who had just stepped out from the palace gate not far away was a genuine Commander Tier, one who had taken the first step in the Sublimation of the Essence of Life: the Human-God Transformation!
"Professor Su..."
Meeting the young man’s gaze from afar, just this exchange of auras from several hundred meters away was enough for Rafael to completely scrap all the plans he had in mind to test Su Zhou. ’He’s obviously a Commander Tier. What’s the point of testing him now?’
This was a joint multinational operation, not some international tournament. Even if they were to test Su Zhou’s strength, it would only be to find out how powerful their own ally was.
And now was the perfect time! A smile immediately appeared on the old man’s face. He was clearly planning to find an excuse to give Su Zhou a gift and get on his good side.
But what Rafael didn’t expect was that another figure moved even faster than him.
"Judge Su!"
The brown-haired girl blurred into a wisp of green smoke, practically flying in front of Su Zhou.
Before the young man’s expression of what seemed to be a mix of confusion and wariness, Selos took out a notebook and solemnly presented it to Su Zhou. Her voice was filled with excitement. "This may be a bit forward... but could you please give me your autograph?"
