Monsters Die When Killed

Chapter 513 - 16: The Wicked Are Punished by the Wicked

It was now 1:19 PM on June 14th, 2016.

What was supposed to be the final multinational briefing before the Beast God Realm mission, or perhaps even a pre-mission rally, had ground to a halt—all because of Su Zhou’s baffling move.

The moment the briefing began, he had strode directly over to Andres, a senior agent from the American Federation. Without mincing words, he announced that this ordinarily approachable and even highly decorated man was, in fact, a sadistic serial killer who had slaughtered countless innocents.

This was very strange.

Everyone in the multinational task force had spent the better part of a week getting to know one another. If Su Zhou had really noticed something amiss, why didn’t he point it out sooner?

The main reason was that not even Su Zhou kept his Evil-Devouring Demon Lord Divine Technique active at all times. Moreover, casually using a Divine Technique akin to an alignment-detection spell was incredibly rude. Generally, Su Zhou would only activate it to check things out when he arrived in an unfamiliar place.

And Andres wasn’t very active to begin with. If Su Zhou hadn’t suddenly sensed a uniquely strong and peculiar ’wrongness’ emanating from the tall, kind-faced American Federation agent—whose hairline was a bit of a concern—he certainly wouldn’t have been bored enough to use a Divine Technique on an agent who had passed the Federation’s multiple, rigorous background checks.

Who would have thought that a single scan would turn up someone whose aura was so red it was almost black.

"Who do you represent?"

At that moment, Aistena was sternly questioning Andres in front of everyone. His words were terse. "And why did you kill? Why the slaughter?"

Rock Tower Aistena was a high-ranking executive of the American Federation’s NW Foundation. Though tall and built like the strongest of football players, he was actually a Caster skilled in wielding Holy Light. Now in his prime, he was the foremost Powerhouse of the American Federation’s West Coast.

He was taciturn and rarely spoke, but when he did, he could channel Holy Power, creating various effects akin to a magical command. If Aistena were to say, ’You cannot lie,’ then unless one was stronger than him or had a special resistance to such commands, they would be compelled to speak the truth.

Aistena didn’t entirely believe Su Zhou. He also had a similar Divine Technique for judging good and evil, so he wasn’t surprised that Su Zhou could immediately see something was wrong with Andres. But for that very reason, he knew that such Magic was full of loopholes; it was common for the same spell to produce different results on the same person in two separate tests.

But then Andres had gone and admitted it so readily. So, Aistena had to get to the bottom of it in public, to prevent the multinational task force from losing faith in the American Federation.

"The Holy Snake Spirit Prayer Association."

Andres stated the power behind him without hesitation, his posture unmoving and his tone frank. "My maternal grandfather was a high-ranking executive in the Holy Snake Spirit Prayer Association. Thirty-three years ago, he was the one who brought me into the Continuous Prayer Meeting and performed several rituals to enhance my Talent. Otherwise, with my own Talent, it would have been impossible for me to cultivate to the Awakening Peak before the Spiritual Energy Revival, much less advance so quickly to the Extraordinary rank afterward."

"My parents, my wife, and my children know nothing about this. None of them have any Cultivation Talent. After my grandfather passed away twenty-seven years ago, I appeared to have completely severed my ties with them. In reality, however, I was acting on the orders of the Leader of the Continuous Prayer Meeting’s American Branch, attempting to infiltrate the Foundation and work as a sleeper agent."

Andres was recounting everything in exhaustive detail. He clearly knew it was better to confess on his own terms than to have someone forcibly search his Soul. "As for the slaughter, that’s because the Continuous Prayer Meeting has a Soul-devouring Secret Technique that allows one to rapidly restore Spiritual Power by devouring Souls. Years ago, during an operation in Mexico to round up a clan of exiled Vampires, I was ambushed and severely wounded. I killed seventeen local residents, devoured their Souls to continue the fight, and then blamed the casualties on the Vampires."

Hearing this, Su Zhou couldn’t help but click his tongue. ’I still remember in the Reincarnation World,’ he mused, ’how a follower of the Water God would drop dead on the spot for revealing the tiniest bit of information. Theoretically, the Continuous Prayer Meeting’s capabilities should be superior to the Water God’s. How can they let Andres reveal such important intel so easily?’

Andres continued his narrative. "After that, just like those Vampires, I became addicted to the feeling of devouring Souls... That high of my power increasing, of my Spiritual Power being replenished... once you’ve tried it, you can never go back. And the more a Soul suffers, the more delicious it is. I knew this was likely the very path by which humans of old fell, becoming Vampires or even Demon Fiends, but I still couldn’t stop myself. I would strike occasionally, killing people to devour their Souls, and then pin the blame on my mission targets."

Aistena’s brow furrowed. He clearly remembered the incident, as he had been the one leading the operation to round up those exiled Vampires. Most of the Blood Race settled within North America were surgeons; with their innate control over flesh and blood, performing high-risk surgeries on ordinary people was effortless for them. Their food source was provided by the Federation, so the settled members of the Blood Race enjoyed normal citizenship rights, and only had to occasionally report their whereabouts to the Foundation.

The exiled Vampires, however, were different. They were a clan of Monsters who insisted on killing, devouring their victims whole—flesh and Soul alike. For this reason, they were hunted by all the major global powers, forced to live as fugitives.
