On the other side, the colossal Divine Toad let out a deep, guttural rumble. Its body, which had always mimicked the natural environment, suddenly dissolved into Chaos. This was a power inherited from its father’s bloodline, one that allowed it to maintain a state just shy of the Unity of Heaven and Man, drastically accelerating its Cultivation.
But now, the Divine Toad reversed this process. It no longer mimicked the world around it; instead, it forced the world to take on its form. For a brief moment, as the surrounding atmosphere was eroded by a chaotic Spiritual Light, it could even achieve a true state of Unity of Heaven and Man. At least, that was the case in this corner of the world.
The two lead Divine Beasts charged forward, with the Celestial Dragon and the Divination Turtle right behind them. Each had awakened a Divine Technique once possessed by their Primordial Ancestors. The Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord created massive Ice Crystals capable of refracting Spiritual Light. The Divination Turtle, meanwhile, retracted into its shell, using its body as a shield and coordinating with Ghost Car’s Spirit Light Shield to block Su Zhou’s Breath.
RUMBLE—
The explosive roar reverberated through the atmosphere. The already turbulent high-altitude air currents were torn apart, creating rifts of vacuum. Countless Spirit Beasts caught in the maelstrom plummeted from the sky, some even sliced to pieces. But they had blocked it!
When the enormous, incandescent white pillar of light struck the shield erected by the united Venerable Lords, it instantly fractured. Like branches sprouting from a great tree, hundreds, even thousands, of smaller beams split off. They scattered in every direction, shooting down ten times the number of Spirit Beasts as before.
But a block was a block. It didn’t matter how many ordinary Spirit Beasts died. The four Venerable Lords were completely unharmed!
’We can block it! That guy’s power isn’t as strong as I thought!’
Sensing the force of the impact, the Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord’s heart leaped with joy. It was the Divine Beast most wary of Su Zhou. Because Su Zhou was also of the Scale Race, it was terrified that he would steal its position as the King of the Scale Race. Of course, it never stopped to consider *why* Su Zhou would want to do such a thing. To the Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord, its title was the most important thing in the world—and the thing it most feared another Divine Beast would take.
"But we can’t let him keep firing... This guy’s Breath is practically a Divine Technique! Don’t give him the chance. We have to go down and stop him. Otherwise, forget the servants—our Personal Guards will be wiped out!"
As soon as the words were spoken, the Divination Turtle Venerable Lord—surprisingly hasty for a turtle—immediately dove, rocketing toward Su Zhou. The Divine Turtle clan’s combat effectiveness depended on coordination with a large number of their Personal Guards. If it let Su Zhou slaughter them like chickens, its clan’s standing would fall even if they won the battle!
Buoyed by the confidence from their Primordial Ancestors’ power and having confirmed that Su Zhou wasn’t as strong as they’d feared, the four Divine Beasts immediately streaked toward him. The other Spirit Beasts, however—the Extraordinary Tier Combat Species—hesitated and stayed put.
"Uh, shouldn’t we go cheer on the Venerable Lords?"
A fish-like Spirit Beast asked stupidly, only to be silenced by the angry glares of the others. Another cat-shaped Spirit Beast scolded it, "You idiot fish! A battle between Venerable Lords isn’t something we can meddle in! For those of us with meager fortunes, forget cheering them on—just getting close would burn away our karmic blessings!"
"Exactly, exactly!"
Meanwhile, Su Zhou watched the four Divine Beasts in the distance. They had broken the sound barrier and were now charging him at supersonic speeds. He closed his mouth. Then, thirty-six Gale Seed Cores flared to life around his body, each one resembling the barrel of a cannon.
Immediately, a barrage of light beams erupted. They were smaller than his previous Breath, but far more agile, crisscrossing through the air. The attack instantly broke the Divine Beasts’ charge, forcing them to either raise their shields or dodge, slowing their advance.
But just then, Ghost Car’s eyes lit up. It seemed to have realized something. ’That strange, dragon-shaped Divine Beast can no longer use its high-powered Breath!’
’Whether it’s because we’re too close, because he doesn’t have time to charge up, or because he simply lacks the Spiritual Power for a second shot... whatever the reason, this is our chance! Those smaller breath cannons are annoying, but they’re not impossible to block if we put our all into defending!’
’This is enough! If this is all he’s got, we can launch a full counterattack!’
With that thought, it beat its wings once more. Streams of deep purple Spiritual Light Particles swirled around its body, finally gathering into two massive Spirit Blades. With a high-pitched cry, Ghost Car swung its wings and flung the Soul Blades—sharp enough to sever Spirit Steel and corrode the very soul—straight at Su Zhou!
As Ghost Car shrieked, the massive, aquamarine Celestial Dragon launched its own attack. The Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord was a True Dragon of the most orthodox line, capable of calling the wind and summoning the rain, and commanding the Thunderbolt. Although it couldn’t unleash its full power without a river nearby, it activated the Dragon Pearl left behind by its Primordial Ancestor, and the wind began to stir.
At first, it was just a gentle breeze. But it quickly grew faster, fiercer. Within seconds, the Gale stirred by the Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord had formed a colossal tornado hundreds of meters wide. Thunder Light flickered within its depths. In an instant, it pulverized everything it touched—earth, stone, houses, plantation buildings, and mines were all torn asunder by the Thunder Light and the raging wind. The tornado then surged toward Su Zhou, intent on grinding him to dust.
