Juliana Lancaster placed the baby next to her daughter, and Sophia Hamilton reluctantly lifted her shirt.
During pregnancy, the nutrition was good, so there was plenty of milk. Moreover, Juliana Lancaster advocated breastfeeding, not supporting formula feeding.
All that calcium and a+ stuff, none are as nutritious as breast milk, convenient without worrying about additives. Such a good resource, it would be a waste not to give it to the grandchild.
The little guy, still sobbing with his little mouth open, could recognize his mother’s scent. Instinctively, he searched upwards with his small mouth towards his mother’s armpit. Watching the little one suckling milk, Sophia Hamilton’s heart melted, and all her earlier displeasure seemed to vanish instantly.
Evander Lancaster sat sideways at the bedside, resting one hand on his wife’s shoulder, unconsciously caressing his son’s chubby cheek, with a gentle curve on his lips and warmth in his eyes.
Juliana Lancaster pulled up a chair, sat at the bedside, and started preaching to her daughter.
"Sophia, now you’re a mother too, you should understand a mother’s feelings. If one day your son brings home a girlfriend you’re not satisfied with, how would you feel?"
Staring at her son’s face, which sunk with exertion, Sophia Hamilton said, "I wouldn’t stop him, whatever kind of girl my son likes, I’ll like her too."
"Nonsense!" Juliana Lancaster disagreed, then continued,
"Although I wasn’t pleased with Evander’s mother’s previous actions, since you chose Evander, you must accept his mother. If one day your son gets married and forgets about you, how would you feel?"
"He wouldn’t dare!" Right after Juliana Lancaster spoke, Sophia Hamilton responded, looking at the little one with clenched teeth, a smile lifting the corners of her lips.
Juliana Lancaster sighed heavily, chuckling.
"How did I give birth to such an unreasonable daughter? You can have Evander ignore his mother but won’t allow your own son to do the same to you. Aren’t you selfish?"
"It’s not the same. No matter how selfish, I would never risk an abortion at the hospital."
Evander Lancaster...
He had hated his mother too, but what could he do? After all, she was his biological mother; he couldn’t just cut ties forever, right?
"Sophia, for the wrongs my mother did, I apologize on her behalf. It’s just..."
Evander Lancaster continued to unconsciously caress his son’s cheek, his gaze always fixed on the little one’s face. He paused for a moment before continuing.
"The biggest responsibility lies with me. I didn’t protect you well enough; if I had been thorough, such things wouldn’t have happened.
Sophia, if you want to blame someone, add me to the list; I failed to protect you both."
"Hmph, don’t try to take all the blame."
Sophia Hamilton snorted unappreciatively. In truth, her heart felt a lot better. In comparison, if her son brought home a daughter-in-law she disapproved of, she likely wouldn’t agree either. However, she wouldn’t be as harsh as Evander’s mother, going as far as to plot against her own grandchild.
"I’m not taking all the blame, Sophia; that is still my mother, after all," Evander Lancaster said helplessly. No matter how many mistakes she made, how could he break ties with his family?
"You’ve said it so many times my ears are practically calloused, Evander Lancaster. How am I only now realizing you nag like an old lady!"
Sophia Hamilton pretended to be impatient. After speaking, she felt two scorching stares land on her, impossible to ignore.
Sophia Hamilton instinctively raised her eyes, meeting her mother’s disapproving gaze, and only then realized she had said the wrong thing.
She chuckled awkwardly, "Mom, I wasn’t talking about you. You’re still young, not like an old lady..."
