From Sylphiette’s perspective

“In short, either it fails and nothing happens or it works and we get a pretty rock. Any questions?”

That was Lulu, her first friend. Ah, wait. He should be called Laurel, to be precise; those two names shouldn’t be mixed up, or else it’ll make Laurel embarrassed. Sylphiette thought. Basically, what we were doing was pouring mana conjured water into a rock and letting the rock turn pretty. She heard Rudeus mutter something about a mana geode.

Anyway, Laurel was a weird person. Her first meeting with him was when he conjured up a blobby creature that called itself a cat. He pretended to be that creature to cheer her up, and they ended up playing together from time to time.

Although he never mentioned it, it was quite obvious once you talked to him. Actually, considering that he never talks much, she guesses it’s not that easy to tell. Wait, perhaps did he talk less to hide it? Hmm… Considering it was Laurel, of all people, that might actually make sense.

Either way, it was thanks to him that she was able to meet Rudeus. Well, at least that’s what she believed since she heard it was Laurel who recommended Rudeus to find the giant tree in the first place. Rudeus was her first love, and Laurel was her first and best friend. He was also very supportive of our relationship and even helped smooth out things between us.

He was also fun to play with, coming up with really strange ideas from time to time. He was exactly the same way he was as Lulu. Strange and otherworldly, as if he were from another world. Well, she heard from her parents that he was a Miko, so that made sense.

Once, they made something Rudeus called a camera. Using a bubble to scale the picture onto the canvas and using mana coloring to paint ink—that was the idea. However, the problem is that someone had to be there to scale the paint. One thing led to another, and in the end, they got their pictures taken by caterpillars, each using one color to complete the canvas.

Thanks to the caterpillars, Slyphy got herself a picture with the twins.

Another time, in a snowball fight, Syphie got the upper hand and threw countless snowballs at Laurel. Then he suddenly floated out of nowhere and retaliated with a dozen rounds of snowballs. She asked him how he floated, and he simply told her to blast air onto the ground, and she’ll fly once the air is strong enough.

That said, he was a very stern and serious person. Strange experiments were always done with meticulous caution, and he would chide her out until she promised not to do something stupid like flying super high without knowing how again. He was really scary when he did that.

Slyhpie didn’t know whether it was on purpose or not, but the mana around Laurel turned into shades of black, and his purple eyes started to glow brightly in contrast to the darkness of his mana. Even Rudeus was scared of scary Laurel too, with his legs trembling and stuttering all over the place.

Laurel was also a very deep person. Unlike Rudeus, Laurel had this gloomy atmosphere when talking about things, half of which she couldn’t really understand. Mostly the main themes of those debates where the philosophy of love, life, death… It’s complicated.

He was quiet, strange, eccentric, and extraordinary, but all in all, Laurel was a good friend. Someone whom she could rely on and trust. So…

Sylphy stared down at the Lulu golem. Made from meticulously shaped ice and water in ways that Slyphy could not comprehend, the blue icicle cat was avoiding her gaze.

“Can’t you tell me where Rudeus went, Lulu? Please?”

“…I can't."

“But why?”

“… Don’t pretend to be cute in front of me. No matter what happens, I will honor my contract above everything else.”

“You’re lying.”

“In short. You know exactly why the two of you ended up separated. So no means no.”

“But I can’t liv—"

“Even if I told you where to go, what will you do? Fly all the way there? Huh? With your current abilities, you’ll just end up being a burden.”

Tears fell on Sylphie’s face. Rudeus was her knight in shiny armor. She loved Rudeus. She wanted to grow up with Rudeus and live together with him. So why wouldn’t anyone let her do just that?

“Honestly, do you intend to rely on him for every second of your life?”

“…?”

“Hah, damn it. Why am I the magpie bridge?”

The cat sighed with one paw on his head. Then it turned to Sylphie staring with its gem-like eyes. Fresh blue eyes with muddy irises and purple sparks within. Those two eyes came from the geode the trio had Paul cut for them. Definitely.

“Do you know what makes a good marriage?”

“When both people are lovey-dovey in bed?”

“… Damn it Paul. The hell are you teaching the children"

The cat looked at her in stunned silence. It seemed Laurel did not expect her to know about sexual relationships.

“Hah… Yes and no. Three things.”

The cat answered.

“A good marriage needs three things. Passion, Intimacy, and Commitment. Let’s put aside empty promises and lustful endeavors. Let’s focus on intimacy. Intimacy, friendship, trust, and support. How do intent to support him.”

“I can cook!”

“And Rudeus can’t?”

“… I-I can do better!”

“Ha. Girl, you’re going to need more than being an erotic elven housewife to make it work.”

“But… But… But why can’t I be a good housewife?”

“… Young love truly is hard to deal with. No wonder Paul just knocked him out instead. Truly the ginger gets spicier the older it gets. No wonder the old man was so good with the gals. I really need to ask for relationship advice from him in the future.”

The cat sighed. It seems that they would have a hard time in communication whenever Rudy was involved.
