Light clings on the edge of dawn, tearing the night sky in two as the world awoke from slumber. I too, like a lazy cat, rolled on my sheets, attempting to evolve into a hot dog – if not for the cries of children rampaging through the silence.
At times like this, I cannot help but admire that pervert for his extraordinary child-herding skills. After all, mere imitation of such refined skills would require an immense amount of delicacy, to the point where I’d tire myself out before long.
Luckily, I’m not the father. Well, to be fair, I wish the father was more useful or, at the least, NOT be a burden and made them cry for the THIRD time of the day. Ah. No. Patience, Laurel. Listen to the advice of the child herding master. Loud anger will cause agitation to the young ones. Right. Calm. Patience. Cool~
Good. I’m slowly recovering my emotional state as an adult. I shouldn’t grow up to throw ice flowers at people for the slightest problems. THAT, would be a nightmare to behold.
As sparkles of waters flow like colorful waves as a kaleidoscope of distractions, I escape the twins calamitic tears as I reached out towards the two letters.
One was from my teacher, Roxy, while the other was sent to my brother. I still kept regular contact with Roxy, at least simple conversations and ideas playing with magic from here and there. Because I had – and still believe that incantations are a form of linguistic magic circle – I did read and analyze them quite a bit, so we send letters discussing on what happens when we skip which lines and the like. It’s like a little fun puzzle game between us.
As for Rudeus, while those who knew about his trip to Boreas knows Paul had banned him from sending letters, what was he going to do if I, this otherworldly troublemaker decided to cause trouble?
…
To my dearest yet foolish brother, I hope you didn’t leave behind this unhinged elf sweetheart of yours alongside with your master’s triangular *holy relic* just so you could fool around and kidnap the young noble lady, all so you could coerce her into learning how to make fireworks.
Well, whether or not that was your intention, everyone is holding up well, which is surprising considering Paul’s negative value in terms of child-caring skills. Slyphie is helping out, with obviously other intentions in mind… I heard that the lady from the Boreas family has quite a fierce temper; however, considering it’s you we are talking about, you’ll probably be fine. Rather, it might not be a bad thing to have her besides you. Who knows, maybe her character would rub off on you well enough for you to reach advanced swordsmanship.
Whatever the case, I’m glad you’re doing well in your new environment. Ah, right, I almost forgot to tell you this, but Slyphie has been learning very unhinged things recently. Assuming that you did not rub on her, it might have been Paul, Lilia or even Zenith. Whatever the case, handle the erotic elf yourself when you came back, because karma’s a bitch and I don’t want to hold that hot potato in my arms.
Yours, Laurel.
…
Considering the Rudeus’s nature, it wouldn’t be weird for him to end up reading that to Eris. That might be fun to watch. I thought as I finished the letter.
“You think so too, right?”
I joked with the kids. Their amicable cries acknowledging my thoughts. Ah, what a fine day it is. Anyway, I should properly read Roxy’s letter.
…
Dear Laurel, how have you been?
It’s hard to believe, but I suppose two years have flown by since we parted. At the moment, I’m staying in the royal capital of the Kingdom of Shirone. In the course of exploring various labyrinths, it seems I’ve made something of a name for myself, so I ended up getting hired to tutor a certain prince.
Teaching him brings back memories of the time I spent in the Greyrat household. For one thing, the prince is actually quite a bit like your brother. As you expected, he wasn’t as talented as the two of you, and teaching him was quite a difficult hassle. If it weren’t for your advice, Laurel, I might seriously question whether I could manage to endure such an arduous endeavour.
In any case, I’m glad that we could still exchange letters like this. You have no idea how grateful I am to be having these late-night conversations discussing magic theories with you. Unfortunately, I have yet to be able to cast other silent magic aside from the basic water magic as of now. It seems that a large quantity of environmental mana, such as our experiment from last time, might be needed after all. However, the fact that it worked has now opened an entirely new path for me to improve as a mage.
I’ve finally managed to get the hang of casting king-tier water spells. Though, perhaps you twins might have already been casting imperial-tier water spells by now. Or maybe you broadened your horizons and reached the Saint-tier in a different discipline? Or perhaps you chose to focus on your swordplay instead. But then again, I know how voracious your thirst for knowledge is, so I could certainly see you dabbling in multiple spell combinations and mixing them within your swordplay.
Personally, I’m aiming to become a Water King-tier magician. Unfortunately, while I would love nothing more than to share this knowledge with you, I cannot divulge information from the Imperial Palace. So, like I mentioned before…if you ever find yourself hitting a dead end in your magical studies, go get yourself admitted to the Ranoa University of Magic. Without a letter of recommendation, you’ll need to pass an entrance exam. But I don’t think that should pose you any difficulty at all.
Until we meet again, Roxy.
…
Looking at the letter, I couldn’t help but smile. Hearing news that people you know are doing well is always a good thing, after all. Oh, how I wish this moment never ended.
