My All Powerful System

Chapter 91: Lynx and Amira on the Steets II

It wasn’t entirely a lie. It was the system that told him what happened during his childhood, and the old Lynx’s memories were a mess anyway, sickness and noise and that isolated room walls. Only vividly rembering his Aunt Isabel, and Kira and a few memories he made with Isabel before he got sick.

But that Lynx was gone. He’d make new memories, and if he needed facts he had the system.

Amira’s grey eyes sparkled at that, but she just nodded, fingers tightening on the wheel.

"Then we’re making new ones tonight."

Ten minutes later they pulled into a packed parking spot, concrete, buzzing with bikes and scooters and people yelling.

They got out, and Amira immediately grabbed his hand, locking fingers like it was nothing. She looked at Lynx giving him a small smile and mouthed welcome.

Lynx almost kissed her right there, her mask was tiny, her lips were right there, but he held back, jaw ticking. She was fucking beautiful.

"So where is this place?" Lynx asked.

"It’s a bit far away from the academy and my house," Amira said, pulling him along, bumping their shoulders together. "It’s where people who don’t have money but live comfortable live. Just food and noises. Also no Blessed here, they would go crazy if they saw one... most kids, teenagers and even some adults haven’t seen a Blessed before physically. They’ve only seen them online."

"Ohh." Lynx nodded at that information.

"I like this place." Lynx surprisingly heard Nyx voice in his head. She had been quiet since they had sex, only dropping a few lines when they talk.

"You do?"

"Yes, the people here seems more interesting to watch. No fake people with three different personalities here. Everyone’s real. Makes it more interesting to watch. I grew bored during your stay at the Academy."

"I’m sorry, I’ll make it up to you."

"Yes, with a week of straight fucking."

Lynx chuckled.

"What?" Amira asked.

"Nothing, just remembered something funny." He smiled at her, while she nodded.

He went back to his mental conversation with his half succubus. "I can’t promise that. But I’ll try my best my queen."

"You better. Now go enjoy yourself." Nyx voice faded at the back of his head.

The first street hit them with light and sound. 8:40 PM and dozens of unread messages glowed when Lynx’s turned on his phone screen, and the roads were clean, the lights were warm, the air smelled like oil and sugar and grilled meat.

Amira dragged him to a stall first, because of course she did.

"Try this," she said, shoving a paper cone of honey glazed dough balls into his hand.

"Don’t burn yourself."

Lynx took a bite, it was sweet, sticky and hot. "Okay that’s illegal how good that is."

Amira grinned, licking sugar off her thumb. "Told you. You look like you’re five right now."

"I’m not five," Lynx said.

"You are," Amira said. "You’ve got sugar on your face."

Lynx wiped it with the back of his hand. Amira reached up instead, thumb brushing his cheek, slowly, then she dropped her hand like it meant nothing. Her ears went slightly pink. They were literally in an open area which although it’s nighttime but felt as busy as daytime.

They moved deeper, Amira introducing him to everything she saw. Skewers of spiced meat, grilled corn with chili butter, fried fish wrapped in leaves, cold sweet drinks in plastic bags with straws. It’s surprising how she knows all these.

Lynx ate like he was making up for ten years, and Amira watched him like it was her favorite show.

Girls whispered every time he passed, nudging each other. "Have you seen his eyes," one whispered, and another one blushed when Lynx caught her looking and just raised a brow at her.

Then a group of kids, maybe 10, 11, came skidding to a stop when they saw Amira.

"Miss Amira!"

"Your hair is so pretty!"

"Is this your boyfriend, he’s so handsome!"

Amira crouched down, laughing, letting them tug her dark hair and poke her grey eyes. "Yes he is you gremlins," she said, but she was smiling so wide. Lynx veil Band and Amira expensive artifact Mask making them look like normal humans.

One kid pointed at Lynx. "He’s prettier than the Blessed I watched on TV. Aren’t Blessed supposed to be more pretty. Why are you more prettier."

Lynx deadpanned. "Thanks, I think."

The kids giggled, and Amira stood up, pulling Lynx away by the hand. "Don’t let them get to your head."

"Too late," Lynx said. "I’m already insufferable."

Women at a fabric stall watched them walk by, then one muttered loud enough for Amira to hear, "Awwnn, look at them, I’m really jealous."

Another one sighed. "I want a man who looks at me like that."

Amira’s ears went red again, but she squeezed Lynx’s hand harder, and smiled smugly.

They played, they actually played.

There was a ring toss with stuffed animals, Lynx missed twice on purpose just to see Amira pout, then he won the biggest plush on the third try and handed it to her.

"There, now you have something ugly to hug," he said.

Amira hugged it anyway, glaring at him. "You’re the ugly one."

They did a shooting game, Amira beat him and celebrated by flicking his veil band. He did let her win though, but she didn’t need to know that and she’s genuinely good at the game.

They raced each other down an alley to see who could grab the last skewer from a vendor, Lynx let her win by half a step, and she called him a cheater anyway.

Then the worst idea they acted upon.

They spotted a meat vendor distracted, arguing with a customer, a whole tray of smoked meat sitting there, unattended.

Amira looked at Lynx, her grey eyes shiny brightly with mischief.

Lynx looked back, already grinning.

On three, they swiped two pieces and they bolted. They ducked behind a tarp, and collapsed laughing, their hearts pounding, the meat in their hands.

"You’re a menace," Lynx said between laughs.

"You started it," Amira said, mouth full.

"I did not."

"You absolutely did."

When they finally came up for air, Lynx turned to her, serious for once. "Thank you, for this."

Amira rolled her eyes. "Shut up."

Then she stood on her toes, and kissed him, quick, soft, right there in the alley, her mask brushing his cheek.

People walked past and someone went, "You guys are shamelessly cute."

Another said. "Both of you are meant for each other. So pretty."

Amira pulled back, blushing furiously unusual for her shameless self. "Don’t look at me like that."

"Like what," Lynx said, thumb brushing a strand of hair from her face, then pressing a kiss to her forehead because he couldn’t not do that.

Amira made a noise and hid her face in his chest.

They went back out, ate more street foods, walked more. Lynx tried a sweet bean paste bun and made a face, Amira laughed at him for five minutes.

He caught her staring at him when she thought he wasn’t looking, and he stared right back until she looked away.

By 11 PM the market was still alive... not as when they came here though but people were still there, some locking their shops, some returning home. It was still alive, but their feet hurt and their stomachs were full and their hands were sticky.

Amira tugged him back to the car, yawning. "We should go, before I buy you the whole stall."

Lynx opened her door for her, then got in on his side, leaning his head back. "Best night I’ve had since waking up."

Amira smiled, tired and soft and pink cheeked. "Good. We’re doing it again."

She started the car, and they drove home, fingers still linked between the seats, the night market fading behind them in silver and smoke.
