My All Powerful System
Chapter 95: A call with the girls. How bad can it go?The scream tore through the tablet speaker so loud that Lynx actually dropped his phone an inch before catching it against his chest.
"LYNXXXXXXXXXX"
Lira was the one who screamed, and now she was sitting on the couch in her room between Kira and Emily, both hands clamped over her mouth, her green eyes huge and watery.
Kira shot forward, orange hair falling out of her messy bun. "Lira, what the hell, you scared me."
Emily jerked back like she’d been slapped, and the second her eyes landed on Ava’s face on the screen her whole body went cold.
Eira was on the other side of the call, leaning in from her room, still in a towel with wet hair dripping down her shoulders. She grinned.
"Well, this is happening."
Lynx rubbed his temple with one hand. "Okay, okay girls, let’s calm down for one second."
"Calm down?" Emily pointed at the tablet, finger shaking a little. "You added this bitch? To the group call? Without telling us first?"
She, Kira and Lira were all squished together on the very big couch, three heads in one frame, blankets and pillows everywhere, and right now they looked like they’d just been caught doing something they weren’t supposed to.
"I was going to," Lynx exhaled. "Things just happened fast, and I thought it would be better if we all talked."
On the other side of the screen, Ava was flushed, hair half straightened, wearing an oversized hoodie that swallowed her. She looked like she’d been running and then panicking.
When she saw Emily, her mouth opened, then closed again.
"Hi guys," she said quietly.
Silence.
Only Lira gave a tiny, hesitant wave. "H-hi Ava." With Eira just nodding, enjoying the show.
Emily didn’t say anything. She just crossed her arms, leaned back into the couch cushions, and stared at the wall instead of the camera.
The air got heavy and awkward.
Eira broke it by laughing. "Damn, this tension could cut glass. I’m grabbing popcorn."
"Eira, don’t start," Lynx said, almost smiling at Eira’s antics.
"What? I’m serious," Eira shrugged. "Besides, you’re the one with a lot of beautiful girls. You should’ve expected it."
Lira tugged at the sleeve of her shirt, looking between all of them with worried eyes. "Guys, maybe we should, um, talk about it? Like, properly? Because keeping it bottled up isn’t helping anyone."
Emily finally spoke, and her voice was flat, clipped, like she was trying not to show anything. "There’s nothing to talk about."
Ava flinched, but she pushed forward anyway, sitting up straighter. "Emily, I’m sorry, I really am. About what happened with our dads. About what my dad did to your family. He wasn’t thinking, he talks about it all the time in meetings and it just, it slipped out before, and then you left and I— I miss talking to you. Even if you hate me."
Emily’s jaw ticked. She didn’t look at her. "You don’t have to do this."
"But I do," Ava said, and now her voice was close to crying. "Because it’s been months or years, and it’s stupid, and I hate that we’re like this, and I hate that every time I see you in combined class we pretend the other person isn’t there."
Kira whistled low. "Yikes."
"Don’t ’yikes’ me," Emily muttered, but there was no heat in it.
Yeah, Lynx also found out that they combined class once in a while. All students of different affinity classes will combine in one big class or hall, then receive combat lessons, fighting against each other under the teachers supervision. All Years do it. But he hasn’t attended class more than twice... so yeah he’s a bad student.
Lynx leaned forward. "This is why I added everyone. Nobody is a kid here, we need to actually talk this out instead of letting it fester."
Eira grinned. "Since when are we not kids?"
"We’re 19, only Lynx is 18 here, he is the kid," Kira said.
Lynx closed his mouth. "I’m not a kid— forget it."
Kira ignored him, then turned to Ava. "So, princess Musk, you gonna cry or you gonna actually say something useful?" Of course the girls know about what happened between Emily and Ava’s dads, it isn’t like a secret or anything.
"I’m not a princess," Ava said quickly, cheeks going red. "And I’m not going to fight. I just want us to be okay again, that’s all."
Lira spoke up, soft but steadier now. "Lynx is right. It’s not your fault, either of you. It’s your dad’s business, not yours. You should talk to her, Emily."
Emily shot her a look. "Lira."
"What? It’s true," Lira said, and she sat up straighter. "You two got stuck in the middle. That’s not fair to either of you, and it’s not fair to us either, because it’s awkward."
Emily was quiet for a long moment. Then she laughed, but it was dry and humorless. "Fair? She raised her middle finger at me in the infirmary."
The call went dead silent.
Ava’s eyes went wide. "I did not!"
"Yes you did," Emily said, and she lifted her middle finger to the camera, slow. "This is how you did it."
Kira burst out laughing, loud. "OH MY GOD SHE DID. I was right there, she totally did it."
"I didn’t—" Ava said, standing up so fast her phone almost flipped. "Okay but you called me a bitch first."
"You deserved it, you spoiled girl," Emily said, unmoving.
"I’m not spoiled."
"You act like a bitch," Emily said, voice cold.
"I do not!"
"Yes you do!"
Eira clapped her hands. "This is better than reality TV. I’m dead serious, I’m really getting popcorn now."
"Eira, you’re not helping," Lynx said, but he was already rubbing his temples. He looked exhausted.
Lira noticed immediately. She scooted closer to the camera on her end, brow furrowed.
"Lynx, are you okay? You look tired."
"I’m fine,"
"You’re not," Lira whispered. "You’re stressed because of us, and I’m sorry."
That shut everyone up for a second.
And then footsteps sounded from behind Lynx. Amira walked in. She’d just come from upstairs after bathing. She was back earlier and went upstairs to refresh herself.
The tablet was on Lynx hands, so all 5 girls could see her the second she entered frame.
Damp dark hair, grey eyes, wearing black loungewear. Beautiful in a way that made the call go quiet.
The girls on the screen went silent instantly.
Lynx looked up from the phone. "So now you’re quiet?"
Eira was the first to recover. "Wow," she breathed through the speaker. "Hi. You’re really pretty. I love your eyes, it’s really pretty."
Amira blinked, then gave a small smile at the camera. "Thank you."
Lynx sat up straighter on the couch. "Guys, this is Amira you’ve all seen each other before. Amira, this is Kira, Emily, Lira, Eira, and Ava."
"Hello," Lira said quietly through the screen. Her green eyes kept flicking to how close Amira was sitting with Lynx on the couch, shoulder almost touching his, hand resting on his thigh.
Kira didn’t say anything. She was watching through the screen. The proximity, the way Amira reached over on camera and squeezed Lynx’s hand once. Heat started leaking out of her, subtle, making the air around her room warm.
Emily noticed. "Kira," she said in Kira’s room, "Calm down."
Kira exhaled, and the heat faded. "Sorry."
Amira looked at the screen, then back at Lynx. "What happened, I heard shouting when I came home earlier. Sounds intense?"
"Yeah it was."
So Lynx told her everything, with all 5 girls still on the group call listening. How Ava’s dad fired Emily’s dad after Emily got Blessed because of jealousy, how Emily’s family went broke, how Emily’s family got rich again, how it was affecting everyone.
The girls were quiet.
When he finished, Amira was quiet for a long time. Then she looked straight into the camera.
"Ava," she said.
Ava straightened immediately on her end.
"Yes ma’am?"
"And Emily."
Emily met her eyes through the screen.
"You’re both being stupid," Amira said, and her voice was firm but not cruel, carrying clearly through the speaker. "You’re letting two grown foolish men decide whether you get to have a friend. That’s not strength, that’s giving them control over you."
She paused, letting it sink in. "You’re a Blessed. You’re with Lynx. You’re supposed to be better than pettiness like this. You’re supposed to lead, not follow old grudges."
"But my family suffered greatly..."
"And it’s not Ava’s fault. It’s her dad’s fault." Amira said slowly.
Ava swallowed hard. "...I’m sorry, Emily. For real. I didn’t mean to act like a bitch or anything to you."
Emily didn’t answer right away. She looked down at her hands, then back up at the camera, and gave one small nod.
Ava smiled at that, watery but relieved. "Thank you."
Eira sighed dramatically into her mic. "And just like that, we have group therapy. But also Amira, can I just say, you’re stunning. Are you single?"
Amira almost coughed. "No."
Lynx choked. "Eira, what the hell."
"What? Was just asking." Eira shrugged.
On the other side of the screen, Lira’s eyes went glassy. Kira was staring at her knees angry, jealous.
Lynx saw it immediately through the call. "Hey," he said softly into the mic. "Hey, Lira. Kira. Look at me."
They didn’t.
"I’m coming back to the academy this weekend," he said. "I promise. We’ll hang out, all of us. Or me and you anything you want okay?"
Lira peeked up, sniffling. "Really?"
"Really," Lynx said.
Kira nodded once through the camera, but she still looked jealous.
The mood shifted after that, it got lighter, but still buzzing. They talked about the match tomorrow, about classes, about stupid academy rumors, about food, all while still on call.
And then, because she couldn’t help herself, Eira leaned in to her camera.
"So," she said, drawling. "I know you two have had sex."
Amira choked on air.
"EIRA," Emily, Kira, and Lira shouted at once through their speakers.
"What?" Eira shrugged. "Don’t act brand new. I’ve had sex with him too. He’s incredible in bed."
Emily went red. "I KNEW IT. I saw you during Lightning Ascension trials, you were practically drooling on him."
Eira laughed. "Guilty."
All four girls were staring at Amira through the screen now, waiting.
Amira cleared her throat, cheeks faintly pink. "...Yes. He’s, uh. Exceptional."
The girls groaned in unison through the call.
"I want to have sex with him too," Kira blurted, "Eira and Amira already had sex with him first"
"Kira, he’s your cousin," Emily hissed.
"What? I don’t care, we don’t care," Kira said, crossing her arms on camera.
Lira’s bottom lip wobbled. "I want to enjoy him too," she whispered, and she looked like she was about to cry.
Lynx actually choked. "Lira, no, no, not like that—"
"I’m allowed to want things," Lira pouted. "But I really want to I like you."
"Me too, I’m the president and creator of Lynxcrushers." Ava chimed in.
Eira was wheezing. "The cousin, the lamb and the princess wants to have sex with Lynx. You should be proud Lynx."
Lynx glared at Eira.
They talked for another 20 minutes, rambling, laughing, getting embarrassing, until Lynx finally leaned forward.
"Okay," he said into the phone. "It’s late. You guys need to sleep. Emily and Kira have that match tomorrow."
Eira immediately frowned on screen. "You just want to go have sex with Amira."
Ava nodded. "Yeah."
Lira agreed too, pouting. "You do."
"No I don’t," Lynx said, and he pointed at the camera. "Lira, don’t let them corrupt you. I’m saying this because you two have a match tomorrow and you need rest, that’s all, nothing else."
The girls grumbled but didn’t argue.
"Fine," Kira said. "Goodnight, Lynx, and if you don’t come back by weekend, I’ll break your bones and melt them."
Lynx laughed shakily, "I’ll keep my promise."
"Night, Lynx," Emily said, and her voice was softer now.
"Goodnight," Ava whispered.
"Night," Lira said, and blew him a kiss at the camera.
One by one, the screens went black and the call ended.
Silence filled the living room.
Amira turned to him on the couch. "It’s finally us, huh?"
Lynx smiled, tired but warm. "Yeah. It’s us."
"Kira is pretty scary."
"Yeah, but she means well though." Lynx said.
"I know—"
He cut her off and kissed her, slowly, then stood and lifted her into his arms.
Amira looped her arms around his neck. "Where are we going?"
"To our room," he murmured.
He carried her back upstairs, pushed the door open with his foot, and locked it behind them with a soft click.
