My Artifacts Can Upgrade Infinitely

Chapter 65: Force Exertion Technique

Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Force Exertion Technique

"Thank you for coming to my aid, Taoist Friend."

Shen Yunjiao’s face was pale. She bowed slightly in gratitude, her expression a little complicated. ’Not long ago, I thought I knew Zhao Zuo quite well, but after seeing him quickly kill an expert of the same Realm today, I realize I’ve never truly seen the man before me.’

"Taoist Friend Shen, there’s no need for that. We should hurry back to Qingni Lane."

Zhao Zuo’s expression was as calm as ever as he quickly helped Shen Yunjiao up. The thick smell of blood clung to her. Her Taoist Robe was slightly torn at the shoulder, faintly revealing a wound over ten centimeters long. The surface of the wound had already been given a simple treatment with Golden Wound Medicine to stop the bleeding.

"Don’t go home. Go to the safe house in Clear Water Lane."

After saying this, Shen Yunjiao’s eyes rolled back, and her body went limp, collapsing into Zhao Zuo’s arms. The combined effects of her severe injuries and the poison had already pushed her body to its limit. The long flight had exhausted the last of her energy.

’This is a bit tricky.’

He looked at the delicate figure in his arms, took out a few Antidote Pills and Healing Pills from his Storage Bag, and pinched Shen Yunjiao’s pretty face. Her skin was cool to the touch, as if it would break from a mere puff of air. He gradually applied pressure with his right hand to part her lips, dropped the Pill Medicine inside, then took out a water-filled gourd and tried to pour in a few large gulps of cool water.

Zhao Zuo tried a few times but couldn’t get her to swallow, so he had to give up.

’Taoist Friend Shen, whether you live or die is up to fate now.’

Zhao Zuo looked at her bloodless cheeks and suddenly felt a little nervous. But she wasn’t dead yet, so there was no need to be too discouraged. He bent down slightly, applied a bit of strength with his arms to lift Shen Yunjiao by her thighs, and hoisted her onto his back.

A faint fragrance spread, causing a brief, fleeting ripple in Zhao Zuo’s heart.

’Time to go.’

Along the way, Zhao Zuo was extremely cautious, starting and stopping. Fortunately, his physique was powerful, and even carrying over a hundred pounds, his steps were still light. With an injured person on his back, he was even more careful not to attract anyone’s attention. Whenever he encountered a passerby, Zhao Zuo would immediately step aside... or take a detour.

Zhao Zuo pushed off with his legs, his toes tapping the ground as he landed lightly on the roof like a falling leaf. He nudged a tile open with his foot and jumped directly into the house. His landing kicked up a fine layer of dust, clouding the air inside.

The house was as simple as before, empty except for a wooden bed in the bedroom.

He first took a dry Beast Hide from his Storage Bag and spread it on the bed, then gently laid Shen Yunjiao down. Although her face was still pale, her breathing was now steady and regular. It seemed she was past the most dangerous period.

Zhao Zuo took out a Cleaning Talisman to cleanse himself and Shen Yunjiao, determined not to leave any traceable scent. After thinking for a moment, he still felt it wasn’t safe enough. He got up, went to the kitchen area, braced his legs, grabbed hold of a crossbeam, and pushed open the roof tiles to carefully observe the surroundings.

Although that Tribulation Cultivator had been intimidated by him, there was no guarantee he wouldn’t take a desperate risk.

Zhao Zuo checked the surroundings once more. Detecting nothing unusual, he felt a little more at ease.

The sky gradually darkened, night falling like a giant lid to block out the sun. Zhao Zuo returned to the safe house.

Shen Yunjiao lay on the bed, her face still ashen. Her body trembled slightly, and her brow was tightly furrowed as if she were enduring some kind of pain. However, her breathing and aura had stabilized, suggesting her life was no longer in danger.

The bumpy journey back had probably aggravated Shen Yunjiao’s injuries. Zhao Zuo helped her sit up, letting her lean against his shoulder. He once again fed her a few internal Healing Elixirs, washing them down with Clear Water.

’Logically, even if she was ambushed by two people, Shen Yunjiao shouldn’t have been this badly hurt,’ Zhao Zuo mused. ’It’s probably due to a latent injury from hunting that giant, dark-green serpent. She must have taken a risk before she had fully recovered.’

Zhao Zuo really couldn’t understand Shen Yunjiao’s obsession with Spirit Stones. They had known each other for several months, yet he still couldn’t figure out what she spent all her earned Spirit Stones on.

The outside world grew chaotic again. Zhao Zuo simply found a spot and sat down to begin his Cultivation.

At midnight, Zhao Zuo opened his eyes and let out a long breath. His Cultivation had made significant progress again, but unfortunately, the Qi Cultivation Sixth Layer was still a distant goal. He couldn’t afford to be impatient.

Zhao Zuo stood up and walked to the bed, looking at the unconscious Shen Yunjiao. Strands of her hair were scattered across her face, while others were trapped beneath her. Though her breathing was regular, it was extremely faint, almost inaudible. Thankfully, her chest was still rising and falling slightly.

Her brow was furrowed, and traces of blood still stained her face, a heart-wrenching sight.

Seeing this, Zhao Zuo suddenly realized he should buy a Magical Artifact with healing properties. It wouldn’t matter if its initial effects were weak; if he kept upgrading it, he could eventually reach a point where it could regenerate a severed limb with a thought or grant immortality from a single drop of blood.

Not long after, Shen Yunjiao suddenly turned over in her sleep, accidentally pulling at her wounds. She let out a few pained groans but remained unconscious.

"Father, don’t go! Don’t go!"

Shen Yunjiao anxiously reached out, her hand grasping at the empty air. She seemed to be trying to grab something but kept missing, her expression turning pained, even terrified.

This continued for a long time. Soon, Shen Yunjiao started sleep-talking again, all of it about her father. She kept changing her phrasing as she pleaded with him to stay... trying to embrace him, her arms waving randomly in the air.

"Father, don’t... go..."

"I’m not going anywhere." Zhao Zuo felt he should do something to help her, so he spoke gently and offered his hand, letting Shen Yunjiao grasp it.

He hadn’t expected her grip to be so strong. It was as if born from fear; despite her injuries, she refused to let go.

Once she was holding Zhao Zuo’s hand, Shen Yunjiao immediately grew quiet. Her breathing gradually steadied, and even her furrowed brow relaxed, as if the pain had departed with it.

Zhao Zuo stared speechlessly at his tightly gripped right hand. ’She could be asleep for who knows how long. Am I supposed to just sit here motionlessly and wait?’

He didn’t regret it, but it was a bit helpless. Zhao Zuo sat on the floor. Maintaining this posture meant he definitely couldn’t continue his Cultivation. He had no choice but to close his eyes, clear his mind, and gradually drift off to sleep.

Zhao Zuo slept soundly. He didn’t wake until he sensed a slight movement. He immediately opened his eyes and cautiously scanned his surroundings. At some point, Shen Yunjiao had awoken and was now staring at his face.

"The most dangerous night is finally over," Zhao Zuo remarked, his expression as calm as usual.

Shen Yunjiao didn’t answer right away. She stared blankly into the air for a few seconds before uttering a single, barely audible word.

"Mm."

Then, Shen Yunjiao followed up with another question. "I didn’t say anything nonsensical yesterday, did I?"

"No," Zhao Zuo replied with a straight face.

"I’ve seen that your Body Refining is accomplished, but your methods of exerting force are extremely crude. This might help you."

Hearing this, Shen Yunjiao didn’t dwell on the matter. She took an ancient-looking thin booklet from her Storage Bag. The title was: One Slash.

"That’s a... simple and unadorned name."
