My Beasts Grind Proficiency For Me

Chapter 510 - 24: A Stirring in the Heart

By the time they reached Si Taizhen’s palace, Yang Jing was already drenched in sweat.

On the way back, Si Taizhen had been a real handful. He hadn’t just been kicking his legs wildly; his hands would also grope all over Yang Jing’s body from time to time.

Yang Jing was more terrified on this journey than he had been when stealing treasure from the Moon Demon King’s vault.

He had wanted to use his water-riding technique to speed their journey, but Si Taizhen had simply waved his hand and scattered the current, creating a fuss and insisting that Yang Jing carry him.

Along the way, even Eunuch Gui noticed something was amiss, occasionally sizing up Yang Jing with a peculiar gaze.

As the Turtle Demon who served Si Taizhen’s mother, he had practically watched Si Taizhen grow up. The Eleventh Prince’s Palace was filled with countless beautiful Maids, and across the Jade Poison Kingdom, the number of Banshees who admired Little Crown Prince Si was simply staggering.

Yet Si Taizhen never gave any of them the time of day, nor had he taken any as a lover. Even at eight hundred years old, his Primordial Yang was still intact. Compared to his brothers, he was an absolute anomaly.

What struck Eunuch Gui as odd was that Si Taizhen’s mother had once sought an audience with the Jade Poison Great Saint, begging him to arrange a marriage for Taizhen with a Banshee of superior bloodline.

To ensure the continuation of the Celestial Snake Bloodline, the Crown Princes of the Jade Poison Kingdom typically chose their Consorts early on to produce heirs and expand the family line. These Consorts were usually selected from the lesser branches of the Jade Poison Royal Family.

Some Crown Princes already had hundreds of descendants, and some even had great-grandchildren.

Yet Si Taizhen, a Crown Prince of eight hundred years, still had not chosen a Consort. His palace remained empty, cold, and desolate.

At this thought, Eunuch Gui sucked in a sharp breath. ’Could it be... that the Sovereign has known all along about the Crown Prince’s preference for men? Is that why he’s never been matched with a Consort?’

He turned to look at Yang Jing, scrutinizing him again from head to toe. He truly couldn’t see anything extraordinary about this Snake Demon.

’Could it be his snake tail?’

Eunuch Gui couldn’t help but speculate.

When the Maids in the palace saw the drunken Si Taizhen, they immediately swarmed over. With some difficulty, they managed to pull him off Yang Jing’s back and carry him inside.

Yang Jing let out a subtle sigh of relief. Si Taizhen had genuinely unnerved him. ’It seems I can’t get too comfortable here,’ he thought. ’I have to leave soon.’

He was just about to return to his Demon Cave when the gaunt Eunuch Gui blocked his path.

"Is there something I can help you with, Counselor?"

Yang Jing asked, cupping his hands.

’In the Crown Prince’s Mansion,’ he thought, ’this Old Turtle’s status is far higher than mine.’

"The Crown Prince’s favor is a ladder to the heavens for a subterranean Demon like you. But if you abuse that favor and grow arrogant, if you use his grace to act tyrannically, meddle in the politics of this fief, and bring chaos to the land, I will report you to the Sovereign myself. And I will see to it that you are skinned alive and have your tendons torn out."

Eunuch Gui was old and shrewd. He had seen his share of favored upstarts. Once such Demons suddenly attained a high position, they would invariably reveal the ugliest and most vile parts of their nature.

In his view, it wasn’t a huge deal if the Eleventh Prince preferred men and kept a male favorite. Other Crown Princes, having grown bored with Banshees, often dabbled in other pursuits. He was more concerned that this Si Bing would abuse his position and throw the entire fiefdom into chaos.

Yang Jing’s face darkened at these words, his expression growing as grim as a thundercloud.

"What? Do you think I can’t find someone to replace you?"

Eunuch Gui assumed Yang Jing, confident in the Crown Prince’s affection, was now trying to challenge his authority. He bristled with anger, his whiskers practically trembling.

"Then I wish you the best of luck in finding a replacement soon, Eunuch Gui."

Yang Jing said with a cupped-fist salute before turning and walking away.

Eunuch Gui was furious. He could only storm back into the palace and wait for the Crown Prince to awaken from his drunken stupor so he could properly lodge a complaint.

He settled down directly in a side hall of the palace, sitting cross-legged to meditate and regulate his breathing.

As a Turtle Demon, his lifespan was much longer than that of ordinary Demons, but even so, he was nearing the end of his life. At most, he only had seventy or eighty years left.

With his aptitude and bloodline, advancing to the level of a Golden Core Demon King was as difficult as ascending to the heavens.

His only hope now was that Si Taizhen could distinguish himself from the other Crown Princes and inherit the Sovereign’s throne.

He had come as part of Si Taizhen’s mother’s dowry, a mere slave. His rise to the rank of Counselor of the Crown Prince was entirely thanks to the trust placed in him by both mother and son. If he could repay that debt of gratitude, he would do so even if it meant being smashed to pieces.

After three or four hours, a Maid finally came to inform Eunuch Gui that Little Crown Prince Si was awake.

"Crown Prince! Crown Prince, you’re finally awake!"

Eunuch Gui rushed forward.

Si Taizhen was dressed in Biluo robes, his bearing as magnificent as ever, though a faint flush on his face betrayed the previous night’s binge.

With his level of Cultivation, he wouldn’t suffer a splitting headache like a mortal, no matter how much Spirit Wine he drank. Blackouts were out of the question, so naturally, he remembered everything from the previous night with perfect clarity.

Of course, if he had a choice, he would rather not remember any of it at all.

The mere thought of the previous day made Si Taizhen burn with mortification, and he picked up a Gauze Fan to hide his face.

He didn’t know if he had been bewitched or what had come over him, but when he was drunk, he had felt a strange, inexplicable attraction to Si Bing. He had groped him a few times, and even now, the memory was tantalizingly vivid.

For Si Taizhen, who had always poured all his focus into his Martial Arts and advancing his Cultivation, the feeling was so foreign it frightened him.

In truth, he had been awake for a long time, but had been too mortified and abashed to get out of bed.

But Si Taizhen was decisive by nature. After checking himself and confirming that he hadn’t been put under a Charm Technique, he washed up and sent for Eunuch Gui.

"Crown Prince."

Upon seeing Si Taizhen, Eunuch Gui kept his eyes downcast, feigning ignorance about what had happened the night before.

"Uncle Gui, was I... a bit strange yesterday after I got drunk?"

Si Taizhen asked cautiously after dismissing the attendants.

"Crown Prince, your behavior yesterday was perfectly normal."

Eunuch Gui said.

Si Taizhen had just breathed a sigh of relief when Eunuch Gui continued:

"It is just that... Si Bing does not seem like the type to know his place. It would be most unwise for the Crown Prince to show him too much favor."

Si Taizhen felt his Blood Qi surge, and he almost leaped to his feet.

He hadn’t lost control of his Blood Qi like this since before he had advanced to become a Great Demon.

"Uncle Gui, you’re worrying too much. Si Bing is righteous enough to stand up and seek revenge for his kinsmen. He’s definitely not some sinister, cunning schemer."

He recalled the first time he met Yang Jing, the way he’d stood tall to avenge the murdered Snake Demons, and he subconsciously came to his defense.

Eunuch Gui’s heart sank. ’Can it be that the Crown Prince has developed genuine feelings?’

"Uncle Gui, come with me. Let’s go see this Si Bing."
