Chapter 634: Chapter 148: Rescue Army

The grand army was assembling. Countless Impact Boats darted back and forth like a swarm of busy ants, ferrying the Cultivator army from Dawn Island onto the Flying Boats. On the island itself, endless square formations of Cultivators stood waiting for transport.

The vast Cultivator army now had a new name: the Rescue Army, for their purpose was to save the Western Continent from its current calamity.

The already enormous Flying Ship Fleet was bolstered by an additional twelve Tier Four and twenty-four Tier Three Flying Boats. Due to a shortage of crew, Yang Jing had no choice but to decommission numerous Tier Two Flying Boats and reassign their personnel to the new High Tier vessels.

The entire fleet now consisted solely of Tier Four and Tier Three Flying Boats. It was such an expensive force that even the entire Western Continent would have struggled to assemble one.

This was a clear testament to the wealth of the Central Continent.

It took a full five days to load all eight hundred thousand soldiers of the Rescue Army onto the Flying Boats. The cabins of the Tier Three and Tier Four vessels were so enormous that even after accommodating all the troops, there was still plenty of room left over for military supplies.

Ji Feng was appointed to the position of Marching Marshal. The management of armaments and the allocation of Spirit Stones fell under his purview, and he was so busy taking inventory that his feet barely touched the ground.

Another three days passed before the entire fleet was fully organized and ready to depart.

Yang Jing hovered in the air, gazing down at the fleet. He wasted no words, saying only one:

"Depart!"

The next moment, he transformed into a streak of Tunneling Light and landed on the flagship, the Wave-Subduer.

Yinjiao stood at his side, holding a Command Banner. Though only a Tier Three Magical Treasure refined by Yang Jing, it was linked to all the communication Arrays in the fleet, enabling one to issue direct orders to any Flying Boat.

He waved the Command Banner. All the Flying Boats had already activated their Primordial Magnetism Grand Arrays. At his command, they accelerated in unison, fell into a standard formation, and began their advance toward the Western Continent.

Although the Flying Boats were enormous, they were anything but slow once they reached their full Tunneling Speed. The lowest-grade ships in the entire fleet were still Tier Three Flying Boats. Even at an economical, Spiritual Qi-saving cruising speed, their Tunneling Speed was equivalent to that of a Golden Core Cultivator.

Moments later, the entire fleet vanished from the skies above Dawn Island.

Wood Palace True Monarch materialized, watching with a complicated expression as the Flying Boats receded into the distance.

"The kite clutches its rotten mouse, wary of the passing phoenix. It seems my own magnanimity is truly lacking."

He had grown more and more restless as the Rescue Army’s departure drew near.

Yang Jing had many disciples, all of whom were exceptionally talented. Wood Palace True Monarch’s greatest fear was that Yang Jing would leave one of them behind to preside over Dawn Island, securing a path of retreat for himself.

Given Yang Jing’s ability to refine Life-Extending Puppets and his friendship with several Divinity Transformation Cultivators, even if he had left behind a mere Foundation Establishment Cultivator, the True Monarch would have had to give them a wide berth, feeling constantly on edge.

He never imagined that Yang Jing held the Thousand Islands Alliance in such little regard. Not only did he leave with all of his disciples, but he also gifted him Dawn Island and Golden Bell Island, which were his to occupy by right.

And all Wood Palace True Monarch had to give in return was a large sum of Spirit Stones for Yang Jing’s war chest.

Aboard the Flying Boat, Yang Jing was oblivious to Wood Palace True Monarch’s complicated feelings. He stood at the prow, gazing down at the world below. With the fleet’s Tunneling Speed, they left the coastal waters of the Central Continent behind in just half a day.

The vast expanse of the sea was no longer sapphire blue, but had turned a disquieting ink-black. The Spiritual Qi in the air dropped abruptly, replaced by an unsettling Polluted Evil Qi.

Every Flying Boat in the fleet immediately raised its Restrictions to seal out the Polluted Evil Qi.

"Inform the entire army to raise their guard. We could encounter Demons or Outer Celestial Demons at any moment."

Once they entered the West Sea, they were no longer in the domain of Cultivators. This was the territory of Demons and Celestial Demons.

However, the journey was surprisingly peaceful. Perhaps it was because Yinjiao’s Core Formation had drawn in all the Demons from the outer seas, leading to the deaths of several Demon Saints. They only encountered a few clans of Demons along the way.

These Demons had participated in the previous demon tide, so they knew how formidable the Flying Boats were. The sight of a Flying Ship Fleet so vast they couldn’t see its end scared them witless, and they scattered in all directions.

Yang Jing didn’t dispatch a single ship to exterminate them.

Demons in the sea were an endless cycle; as long as the Muddy Qi persisted, so would they. It was impossible to kill them all. Besides, a fleet this massive couldn’t possibly hide its presence. Chasing after these stragglers would only be a waste of time that would slow their progress.

The tedious voyage continued for five days without the fleet encountering any enemies.

The tension among the Rescue Army gradually began to ease. Many of the Independent Cultivators in their ranks had never even left their home Marketplace before. They had only enlisted after hearing they would have a chance to exchange military merit for Foundation Establishment Pills; for that opportunity, they had gritted their teeth and spent their life’s savings just to join.

Now, they were leaving the Central Continent entirely to travel to the Western Continent. How could they not feel anxious and uncertain?

"Uncle Li, do you think we can win when we get to the Western Continent?"

An Independent Cultivator in Armor, his face still holding a touch of greenness, asked curiously. His Talent was decent; at only twenty-four, he had already reached the Sixth Layer of Qi Cultivation. Even though his Cultivation was low, the recruiting officer had taken his excellent Spirit Root into account and accepted him anyway.

Li Huochong had his eyes closed in meditation. To conserve Spiritual Qi, the cultivators aboard the ships were forbidden from breathing in and out of spiritual energy after they entered the West Sea. The soldiers could only rest with their eyes closed or study their Cultivation Techniques.

"I’m just an Independent Cultivator, how would I know about major military strategies? But Lord Yang managed to acquire seven Tier Four Flying Boats. With powerful Artifacts like those, it would be more than enough to break through a sect’s Grand Array. Most Demons are blind, foolish creatures that don’t even understand Arrays. Once our Flying Boats move in, we should be invincible."

The others in the cabin had nothing better to do, and the pair’s conversation immediately piqued the interest of the surrounding Cultivators.

"That’s right. I once saw a Tier Three Flying Boat from the Flying Spirit Sect activate its Array and lay waste to everything within ten li. If a Tier Four Flying Boat were to do the same, I can’t imagine what kind of Demon could possibly withstand it."

The arrival of the Tier Four Flying Boats had greatly boosted most of the Cultivators’ confidence.

"I wouldn’t be so sure."

Someone interjected, playing devil’s advocate:

"You all joined up too late. You didn’t see Lord Yang’s disciples hunting down Demon Sect spies. On this mission, we’re not just dealing with Demons, but the Demon Sect as well. We Central Continent Cultivators have Flying Boats, but so does the Demon Sect. And the Demon Sect can also call upon Forbidden Celestial Demons for aid. You greenhorns who’ve never fought a Demon Cultivator will be considered brave if you don’t piss your pants the first time you see an Outer Celestial Demon."

The man had a full head of white hair and several hideous scars on his face. Though his eyes were the same brown as other Central Continent People, their edges held a faint green tint—a sign of the body being corrupted by Demon Fiend qi from spending too much time in the Northern Continent.

A Cultivator nearby, annoyed by the man’s arrogant demeanor, was about to argue with him when the cabin, previously as steady as a mountain, suddenly lurched.

"We’ve made contact!"
