There was an unusual place in the Vampire Empire, a unique location known as the Citadel of Infinite Darkness.
It towered above almost every structure in the Capital, occupying an entire section of the military district reserved for the Empire’s elite.
Despite being called a palace, the place had never been built for luxury.
It was a high-ranking military base created to develop the most dangerous vampires in the world, with underground training grounds, restricted libraries, refinement chambers, and facilities designed for bloodlines that could not be trained in ordinary areas.
During the nearly two thousand years Anette had remained sealed, Chysis had taken complete control of the Citadel and transformed it into one of the most important military institutions in the Realm.
The two of them were sitting at the highest point of the fortress, on a circular balcony overlooking a large part of the Capital.
Above them, the sky carried the reddish hue characteristic of the enormous barrier covering vampire territory.
Anette had bathed, changed clothes, and recovered an appearance far more worthy of her position, though she still seemed irritated by practically everything she had discovered since waking up.
"I still think sealing me for two thousand years was extreme," she complained, resting her face against one hand.
Chysis sat on the other side of the small table, one leg crossed over the other.
"You woke up ten years early. So it was one thousand nine hundred and ninety."
Anette slowly turned her face toward her.
"That changes absolutely nothing. And you’re being rude to me. A princess should not be treated like this."
"A princess should also remember that she is no longer a Genesis-Class Vampire."
Anette’s arrogant smile faded slightly.
Chysis continued calmly.
"So I recommend watching that mouth of yours. If I really wanted to, I could erase you with one blow right now."
Anette clicked her tongue and looked at her own hand.
Since awakening, she had already understood the extent of the problem.
Her essence remained monstrous, her knowledge was intact, and her perception surpassed anything she had possessed before being sealed, but her body could no longer keep up with any of it.
"That idiot father," she muttered. "Half my power is gone. I’m back to being like the rest of you."
"What a tragedy. Now you’re merely one of the strongest creatures on the planet."
"It’s humiliating."
"Transcendence is not particularly interesting either when your body is so unstable that you can die from exceeding your own limits."
Anette looked at her.
"Even so, sealing me was cowardly."
"It was necessary."
"I disagree."
"You disagreed with everything back then. You were an extremely spoiled little disaster."
Anette made a small face, but did not answer.
Chysis was completely right.
Chysis rested one arm against the chair.
"During your sleep, you remained conscious inside your mental world, correct?"
"Yes."
"Then you did not lose two thousand years."
Anette became slightly more serious.
"Time moved differently in there, but yes. I spent a large part of it training."
"Ordinary vampires can take nearly a thousand years to develop a mental world through blood. You created yours when you were ten."
Chysis shrugged.
"Your body deteriorated, but I imagine your mind advanced considerably."
Anette raised one hand and examined her fingers.
"More than I expected. My perception became much more precise, my control over blood improved, and my mental world practically became a complete structure."
"See? There is no reason to complain so much."
Anette remained silent for several seconds.
Then she smiled.
"Really? Not even with Aunt Carmilla alive?"
Chysis did not even turn her face.
"You already sensed her? Good. That saves us some destruction when the two of you meet."
Anette narrowed her eyes.
"Not just her. Scarlet is alive too."
Her gaze drifted toward a distant region of the Capital.
Even from that distance, Anette could distinguish several blood signatures scattered throughout the territory.
Carmilla was impossible to mistake.
Scarlet also carried a presence far too familiar to remain hidden once Anette knew where to look.
Chysis sighed.
"I would like to say things are peaceful, but we are practically at war with the Werewolves. The two of them awakened around nine months ago. Fortunately, they are under control and have not caused any irreversible disasters so far."
"My problem isn’t with them."
Chysis looked at Anette for the first time.
The princess was still staring in the same direction.
"It’s with that thing connected to both of them."
Chysis smiled.
"Your perception really is absurd."
Anette turned her face slightly.
"Is that thing a vampire?"
"That is Victor."
"Who?"
"My grandson."
Anette’s head snapped around so fast that her hair followed the movement a moment later.
"Grandson?"
"Yes."
"Serafall gave up her pussy to have—"
"Insemination."
Anette stopped.
"Oh."
She thought for a moment.
"So she’s still a virgin like me—"
"No."
Anette blinked.
Chysis continued with the same calm expression.
"She lost her virginity a few months ago."
Anette slammed her palm against the table.
"WHAT?!"
The table barely survived.
Chysis merely shrugged.
"My grandson is very hot. I understand her."
Anette kept staring at Chysis, still processing that information.
"Oh. I see."
She slowly nodded.
Then stopped.
"Wait. What?"
"He’s very virile. You should try him."
Anette’s mouth fell slightly open.
Chysis continued as though recommending a bottle of wine.
"Even Rakshasa wanted a piece."
"EVEN HER?!"
"Yes."
All the energy seemed to leave Anette’s body.
She slumped into the chair, arms hanging at both sides, staring at the sky as though she had just discovered that the last two thousand years had been a conspiracy created specifically to annoy her.
"Come on... two thousand years."
"One thousand nine hundred and ninety."
"Shut up."
Chysis smiled.
Anette remained like that for several more seconds before finally composing herself.
Her mood shifted again when her eyes searched for the distant signature that had caught her attention earlier.
"So that thing... I mean, Victor."
She frowned slightly.
"Why does he seem so..."
"Special?"
"Yes."
Chysis lost part of her smile.
"That is one of the things we’re trying to figure out. His blood is completely different from ours."
Anette sat upright.
"What do you mean by different?"
"He possesses an adaptive ability that should not exist at that level. His blood comes into contact with a vampire essence and begins understanding the structure of that essence. Then it adapts his own body."
Anette became more interested.
"That isn’t particularly rare."
"Wait."
Chysis rested her arms on the table.
"One of our squad leaders is named Natasha. She drank a small amount of his blood during recovery from an extremely fatal illness. Since then, her body has changed."
"How much?"
"A lot."
Chysis thought for a moment before continuing.
"I still haven’t had an in-depth conversation with the researchers about the final results, but Natasha is practically being rebuilt by Victor’s blood. A considerable portion of the blood circulating inside her already carries his signature."
Anette frowned.
"Symbiosis?"
"Worse."
"Parasitism?"
"Not that either."
Chysis searched for a more appropriate definition.
"It’s as if she has become a slave to his blood."
Anette made no joke this time.
"Explain."
"Natasha can barely drink ordinary blood anymore. Her body rejects it or finds it disgusting. Victor’s blood, on the other hand, is absorbed immediately. In addition, her abilities have been steadily improving since the change began."
"Without training?"
"She trains a lot. But the results are beyond expectations even for her."
Anette placed her fingers against the table and spent several seconds thinking.
"So his blood is replacing her bloodline."
"Possibly."
"And at the same time strengthening traits that already existed."
"Yes."
"Can he do it consciously?"
"Not yet."
"Interesting."
Anette closed her eyes for several seconds, trying to sense Victor again across that enormous distance.
Now that she knew what she was looking for, the signature seemed even stranger.
Carmilla and Scarlet were connected to him in a way far deeper than a simple exchange of blood between lovers.
It did not feel like an ordinary magical bond.
It was biological.
Fundamental.
"It feels like a—"
"Progenitor," Chysis finished.
Anette opened her eyes.
The two remained silent.
Chysis continued after a few seconds.
"Yes. We thought the same thing."
"That’s impossible."
"I know."
"Progenitors don’t simply appear."
"I know that too."
Anette leaned back in her chair.
"Vlad is a progenitor. Cain was too, but he’s dead. Even lesser bloodlines that began from specific mutations can trace their origins back to some ancestor."
"Victor can’t."
"Then where did he come from?"
"That’s the question."
Anette became thoughtful.
Chysis continued, now without any humor in her voice.
"We’re testing his blood very carefully. So far, everything indicates Victor does not simply belong to an extremely superior bloodline."
She looked directly at Anette.
"He appears to be at the beginning of one."
Anette slowly turned her eyes toward her.
"A new bloodline?"
"Yes."
"More powerful than Vlad’s?"
"Probably."
Anette fell silent.
Chysis added:
"And also more powerful than Cain’s."
This time, Anette did not answer immediately.
The wind passed across the balcony and moved her hair as she looked back in the direction where she could sense Victor.
What had previously seemed like nothing more than a strange presence now carried an entirely different meaning.
A progenitor was not simply a powerful vampire.
It was a point of origin.
An existence whose blood could stop obeying the rules of previous bloodlines and begin creating its own.
Anette narrowed her eyes.
"Serafall really was inseminated?"
Chysis looked at her.
"Stop being jealous. If you want to lose your virginity, go after my grandson. He fucks anyone anyway."
"H-how dare you! I am not just anyone!!"
"In his eyes, you’re just another one. That I can guarantee."
