My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable
Chapter 106: No, First Time Saying ItChapter 106: Chapter 106: No, First Time Saying It
After confirming that none of the symptoms she described were present, Vesper Grayson looked at Tristan Forrester.
"Mr. Forrester, I can try, but I can’t cure him right now."
You can’t make bricks without straw.
She hadn’t brought the Nine Dragon Needle with her on this trip to Portclyde.
Ordinary acupuncture would only treat the symptoms, not the root cause. The effects would be slow, making it a pointless exercise.
If it could really be cured so easily, the patriarch wouldn’t have remained paralyzed all this time.
Tristan Forrester’s expression darkened. "Miss Grayson, are you saying my grandfather’s condition is incurable?"
"Mr. Forrester, you’ve misunderstood me. Ordinary silver needles won’t work on the patriarch. I need to use a set of special needles. With those, there might be a fifty percent chance of success."
"Fifty percent?"
"Yes. I can’t give you a one-hundred-percent guarantee of a cure."
This meant there was a fifty-fifty chance, which, for Tristan Forrester, was the best news he had heard in years.
All those famous medical experts had taken one look at his grandfather’s condition and shaken their heads, utterly helpless.
"Miss Grayson, where are these special needles? I’ll arrange a plane right now to fly you there."
"..."
Jared Hawthorne spoke up, "Tyson, aren’t there people treating Grandpa Forrester right now? Why not let them try first? If it really doesn’t work, then Vesper can give it a shot."
Now that he had a better option, how could Tristan Forrester possibly let some charlatan quack treat his grandfather?
"I don’t trust them." Tristan Forrester sighed softly. "I only heard that Miss Kensington was cured and thought she was... That’s why I was grasping at straws. It’s a good thing you and Miss Grayson are here. Otherwise, I probably would have been completely fooled by them."
Some bullshit traditional medicine family? What a joke!
To think that he, Tristan Forrester, would one day be duped like this.
Vesper Grayson said softly, "Mr. Forrester, actually, that other Miss Grayson does know medicine. She’s just not very skilled. She could probably treat common ailments, but with a complex neurological condition like the patriarch’s, I’m afraid she’s out of her depth."
"So, Miss Grayson, do you think I should let my grandfather take that risk?"
She shook her head lightly, clearly disagreeing.
Tristan Forrester’s gaze fell on Jared Hawthorne.
"Jared, your girlfriend herself said as much. There’s no way I can let them use my grandfather as a test subject."
Jared Hawthorne raised an eyebrow. "So what are you going to do with those two?"
"Naturally, I’ll have them issue a public clarification and tell the truth! Or..." Tristan Forrester suggested, "Perhaps Miss Grayson could expose them herself?"
"No, I’d rather not. I don’t want this to become a huge public spectacle."
She didn’t want to be famous, and she certainly didn’t want people to know she was Clay Vance’s successor. If she hadn’t stumbled upon the situation and felt she couldn’t just stand by and watch someone suffer, she wouldn’t have wanted to get involved at all.
But sometimes, when she came across something like this, she just couldn’t help it.
’Perhaps it was all part of fate’s plan!’
Tristan Forrester understood.
She didn’t want to reveal her identity; she wanted to keep a low profile.
So young, yet so composed and uninterested in fame or fortune. It was truly rare.
A hint of admiration crept into his eyes as he looked at her.
...
「In the side hall.」
Mandy Grayson looked at the bodyguards standing guard at the door, her expression frantic.
"Brother, what do we do! Patriarch Forrester is paralyzed, I can’t treat him at all."
"Just now, I used acupuncture on his Huantiao, Weizhong, and Zusanli points... He didn’t react at all."
This was completely beyond the scope of everything she had ever learned.
Mitchell Grayson’s expression was grave. "Grandpa told you long ago this wasn’t ordinary paralysis, but you just wouldn’t listen. You insisted on taking on the Forrester Family’s case."
"I was just trying to do what’s best for the Grayson Family! Who knew it would be this serious..."
She had always been confident in her acupuncture techniques. In the past, she had cured many hemiplegic patients. Even the director of the traditional Chinese medicine hospital had personally come to her door to invite her to be a special consultant.
With years of rich clinical experience and a flawless track record, she had confidently assumed that complete paralysis wasn’t all that different from hemiplegia. She thought her techniques could always awaken some sign of life. But she never expected Patriarch Forrester’s meridians to be completely blocked, with the needles eliciting no response whatsoever.
"Call Grandpa first. Tell him the situation and see if he has a better solution!"
"Okay, I’ll call him right now."
After the video call ended, Mandy Grayson collapsed onto the sofa.
"Brother, if I tell them, what will people think of me? What will they think of the Grayson Family?"
Her good reputation would be ruined!
Mitchell Grayson’s brows furrowed tightly. "Do you have a better idea? Mandy, cutting our losses is the best thing to do right now. Fortunately, you never actually admitted to being the ’miracle doctor’ who cured Miss Kensington."
Otherwise, her medical career would have truly been over.
...
That same day, Tristan Forrester arranged a private helicopter to fly Vesper Grayson back to Northolme to retrieve her needles.
She returned to Portclyde in the evening and performed acupuncture on the patriarch.
Unfortunately, the patriarch’s legs remained completely without feeling.
"We’ll start with one course of treatment. If there’s still no feeling after a week..."
She didn’t finish the sentence, but everyone understood the implication.
It would mean the situation was truly hopeless.
Patriarch Forrester chuckled. "You’ve worked hard, young lady. Whether it works or not, all we can do is our best and leave the rest to fate!"
"You have a good outlook. I will do my best."
They declined Tristan Forrester’s kind offer to stay for dinner.
Jared Hawthorne took her straight to Victoria Harbour, where they boarded a private yacht.
The yacht slowly pulled away from the shore. The evening breeze caressed their faces as the glittering skyscrapers on both sides of the harbor drifted by. The night was impossibly gentle.
Vesper Grayson stared at the shimmering water, surprised. "When did you arrange all this?"
"I arranged it while you were flying back to Portclyde." He stepped forward, tucking a wind-tousled strand of her hair behind her ear. He gently pulled her into an embrace, his warm breath ghosting across her temple as he asked in a low, magnetic voice, "Do you like it?"
"Mmm."
Encircled in his arms, her heartbeat lost its rhythm, and even the breeze seemed to grow warmer.
No one had ever been so thoughtful with her before.
Years ago, she had imagined she would come to Portclyde with Luke Lockwood. She never thought she would end up on a nighttime cruise through Victoria Harbour with another man.
Just then, Vesper Grayson’s stomach began to rumble.
"..."
"Hungry?"
"Mmm-hmm."
She had eaten so much for lunch; she didn’t expect to be hungry again so soon.
She realized her appetite had been excellent lately, and she seemed to have filled out a little since her time in Ashmore.
Jared Hawthorne let out a low chuckle, took her hand, and led her to the observation deck restaurant.
He gallantly pulled out a plush chair for her.
"Miss Grayson, please."
Only after she was seated did he take the seat opposite her, his gaze deep and warm.
The dishes were served one by one in silence. A gentle sea breeze drifted in from the open terrace, carrying the cool scent of the ocean.
The candlelight fell on Vesper Grayson’s cheeks, bathing her features in an exceptionally soft glow.
Jared Hawthorne raised his wine glass, his voice low and tender.
"I’ve seen the Portclyde skyline at night countless times, but it has never looked as beautiful as it does today."
"Why is that?" Vesper Grayson looked up at him. ’Could it be different from before?’
He smiled faintly, his tone alluring. "Because tonight, you’re by my side."
’...’ ’So cheesy!’
’Wasn’t President Hawthorne supposed to be the aloof, ascetic type? How could he say something so slick?’
"Have you said that to other women, too?"
"No. This is the first time."
Hearing this, she propped her chin on her hand, her eyes sparkling. "Then am I also the first woman you’ve ever brought here?"
