My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable
Chapter 114: Why Can’t I Be One More?Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Why Can’t I Be One More?
Yvonne Lowell’s treatment at Starlight had noticeably improved recently.
Lana Chandler’s attitude toward her was also much more polite than before. The PR department was even discreetly working through various channels to clear her name regarding an old, unaddressed incident where she had been framed.
Her online reputation was visibly improving.
Yvonne Lowell took advantage of this time to actively engage with her audience, hosting live streams on a short-video platform to teach fans about makeup and skincare. Her content was full of practical advice, not only attracting a large number of casual followers but also converting many of her former haters into fans.
In just one week, her follower count on the short-video platform skyrocketed by over a hundred thousand.
Roya Winters, of course, had long since noticed such a huge stir.
The fact that Zane Rivers had recently met with Yvonne Lowell alone at the company three times made her especially uneasy.
With her worries brewing, she went to find Lana Chandler and tried to probe for information.
"Miss Lana, has something good been happening at the company lately?"
As she spoke, she gently pushed an exquisitely packaged, limited-edition handbag in front of her.
Lana Chandler glanced at her with a half-smile. "What are you trying to find out?"
"What’s really going on with Yvonne Lowell? Is President Rivers planning to promote her?"
"Given your relationship with President Rivers, why don’t you ask him yourself?"
Roya Winters’s expression stiffened. "Miss Lana, you love to joke. You know what kind of temper President Rivers has."
Zane Rivers had been cold toward her lately, which was clearly a warning. ’How could I possibly dare to provoke him now?’
"Weren’t you quite ambitious before?" Lana Chandler chuckled lightly. "To have this much self-awareness now is an improvement. Not completely stupid, I guess. The threshold of a family like the Rivers Family isn’t one that just anyone can cross."
’Just another actress. Give her an inch, and she’ll think she can take a mile.’
"Miss Lana, life is so boring without a little ambition." Roya Winters’s lips curled. "Plenty of people have crossed class barriers. Why can’t I be one of them?"
’A soldier who doesn’t want to be a general is no good soldier. Who wouldn’t want to claw their way to the top?’
Lana Chandler shook her head and pushed the bag back.
"Then I wish you the best in getting what you want. As for what you want to know, I have no comment."
Roya Winters was stunned. She hadn’t expected her to refuse even the bag.
This only confirmed her suspicions.
"Miss Lana, has Elena from Vaudin contacted you recently about the Asia-Pacific endorsement?"
Elena had clearly said she was very fond of her before, but there had been no follow-up. Vaudin’s official channels had also been silent about the spokesperson announcement, making her feel secretly uneasy.
Lana Chandler raised an eyebrow and said lightly, "The Vaudin spokesperson has already been decided."
Hearing this, Roya Winters secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Vaudin was a major international brand, and this Asia-Pacific endorsement carried immense weight. A stellar performance could very well catch the headquarters’ attention, leading to a direct promotion to global spokesperson and completely opening up the international market.
By then, not only would her endorsement fees skyrocket, but her status would also double. Her influence and commercial value within the industry would far surpass other artists, truly elevating her to the top tier.
She would become Starlight’s cash cow and have more confidence to marry into a wealthy family.
"Miss Lana, I picked this bag especially for you. It suits you perfectly."
Suppressing her excitement, Roya Winters smiled, stood up, and walked out.
Watching her giddy departure, Lana Chandler frowned slightly.
’Did she... misunderstand something?’
Just as she came out of the office, Roya Winters ran right into Yvonne Lowell, who was there to see Lana Chandler.
She immediately lifted her chin and sneered, "Yvonne Lowell, since when did you stoop to showing your face on short videos, teaching people skincare and makeup just to get attention? You think gaining a few fans with those cheap tricks is really going to be your comeback?"
Yvonne Lowell stopped in her tracks and looked up at her coolly. "It’s still much better than certain people who rely on stirring up shipping rumors with President Rivers and selling their bodies to snatch resources."
Roya Winters flew into a rage out of shame and warned sharply, "If you dare spout any more nonsense, believe me, I’ll rip your mouth apart!"
’If this bitch hadn’t been running her mouth and ruining my reputation, President Rivers wouldn’t be ignoring me like this.’
"If you don’t want people to know, don’t do it in the first place." Yvonne Lowell’s expression was cold. "I dare to say this because I have proof. You’d best not provoke me, or you’ll just be asking for trouble."
Seeing she was about to leave, Roya Winters grabbed her arm in a panic, her face betraying her alarm.
"What proof do you have?"
Yvonne Lowell gently pulled her hand back, gave her a slight, silent curl of the lips, and said nothing.
She wanted Roya Winters to know she had leverage over her, but without revealing what it was.
That feeling of being left hanging, of an itch you can’t scratch, was the most tormenting kind.
Roya Winters stared at her departing figure, a chill growing in her eyes and panic rising in her heart. She immediately decided to go to Vaudin herself and see Elena in person.
"Do you have an appointment?"
"I’m Roya Winters. I know Elena. I’m about to become the Vaudin Asia-Pacific spokesperson, do I really need an appointment?"
"I’m sorry, but without an appointment, Elena is not available to see you."
"I’ll call her right now."
In front of the receptionist, she dialed Elena’s number directly.
The call was answered quickly.
"Elena, it’s me, Roya. I’m downstairs at your company right now. I’d like to see you."
"Miss Winters, a meeting won’t be necessary. For any business collaborations, I will have my assistant contact Lana Chandler. I have something else to attend to, so I’m hanging up now."
Her tone was indifferent and distant, formal to the point of being completely unsparing.
Listening to the dial tone, Roya Winters stood frozen, unable to process what had just happened.
Just then, a respectful voice spoke up.
"Miss Grayson, Elena has been waiting for you for a long time."
Alan personally led Vesper Grayson toward the elevator.
Vesper Grayson was dressed in a simple white blouse paired with elegant, high-waisted trousers. She exuded a gentle, intellectual aura—clean and poised. Her makeup was light and understated, with almost no embellishment, yet she was exceptionally beautiful. Even just standing there quietly, she was remarkably eye-catching.
’Elena had no time for me, yet she was waiting specifically for Vesper Grayson.’
How could she not feel the vast difference in treatment?
’The whole "I’m busy" line was just an excuse to brush me off.’
As Vesper Grayson entered the elevator led by Alan, she turned, and her eyes met Roya Winters’s from across the lobby.
The elevator doors slid slowly shut, completely cutting off their gazes.
"Vesper, you’re here."
As soon as Elena saw her enter, she smiled and rose to greet her.
Vesper Grayson handed over the gift box she was carrying, her smile gentle. "A gift."
Elena opened the box. A watch of simple design yet superb quality lay quietly on a velvet cushion. Her eyes instantly lit up, and her voice was filled with surprise.
"Is this... this year’s Asia-exclusive model from Patek Philippe?"
She examined it for a moment, unable to put it down, and couldn’t help but laugh. "I’ve had my eye on this model for a long time. Unfortunately, the brand only offers it directly to their top VIPs. I don’t even qualify to purchase one. I can’t believe you managed to get it."
