Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Publicity Banquet
"It’s all thanks to Elias. I wouldn’t have been able to get it otherwise," Vesper Grayson said with a light laugh. "He was the one who recommended this watch, too. He said you’ve always had a thing for timepieces and are quite the seasoned collector."
"I’m surprised he still remembered." Elena eagerly put the watch on. "Tell him I said thanks."
"Here, let me help you."
Vesper Grayson stepped forward and gently fastened the strap for her.
The small watch face and the warm, elegant luster of the metal perfectly complemented her slender, fair wrist, enhancing her sophisticated and capable aura.
"I think I saw Roya Winters on my way up," she mentioned, as if in passing.
Elena poured her a cup of tea, her tone flat. "She came looking for me, said she had something to discuss. I didn’t see her. It’s a good thing you did your research so thoroughly. Otherwise, I would have been completely fooled by that innocent act of hers."
"Who she is in her private life isn’t really important," Vesper Grayson’s voice was light. "As long as she does her job diligently and doesn’t cause any scandals, that’s enough. I don’t have anything against her, personally. We just don’t click."
She never targeted anyone and respected how everyone chose to live.
’Wanting to climb the ladder, to have a better life—it’s only human nature.’
"Anyway, you’re the one in charge. I won’t interfere with the endorsement."
"The day after tomorrow, I’d like to host a promotional banquet at The Imperial Hotel."
Vesper Grayson pushed an invitation card across the table.
"I’ll be there on time."
...
「In the blink of an eye, the day of the banquet arrived.」
The venue was filled with guests. Socialites and dignitaries mingled, their perfumes lingering in the air. Crystal chandeliers cast a brilliant, flowing light, and glasses clinked amidst the lively conversations.
Vesper Grayson wore a long, black, satin dress with a cinched waist. The deep V-neck was both elegant and grand, perfectly accentuating her graceful figure. The draped hem swept the floor, giving her an air of cool, aloof nobility and a commanding presence. She was adorned only with simple pearls, a touch of understated elegance that ensured she wouldn’t upstage the spokesperson.
She moved through the crowd, mingling with each guest with practiced ease.
This was the first major promotional banquet she had hosted since taking the helm at Grayson Corporation.
Milton Grayson also attended, with Gwen Grayson in tow.
"Sis, congratulations."
Meeting her gaze, Gwen Grayson looked a little awkward.
The two had never gotten along since childhood. Even though their relationship had eased recently, she was still very stiff around her.
Milton Grayson smiled, trying to smooth things over. "Gwen said she wanted to come and help."
Gwen Grayson was speechless.
’How could he just sell me out like that?’
A slight smile touched Vesper Grayson’s lips. "Good, I’m a bit overwhelmed. I’ll have to trouble you then, little sister."
Gwen Grayson huffed lightly and turned to greet the guests.
"Your sister has changed a lot, but she’s still so stubborn," Milton Grayson couldn’t help but sigh. "Looks like suffering a little might not have been a bad thing. At least she knows who genuinely cares for her now. She was misled by your Miss Joyce since she was little, but she’s not a bad person at heart. Dad hopes you two sisters can get along."
Vesper Grayson understood what he was getting at. "I won’t hold things against her."
"Where’s Elias?" Milton Grayson looked around but didn’t see Jared Hawthorne.
"He doesn’t like making public appearances. He’s in a private room upstairs." She didn’t want to force Jared Hawthorne to break his habit and make a public appearance for her sake.
"I’ll go up and see him."
...
「The parking lot.」
Roya Winters, dressed in an evening gown, stepped out of her car.
She had barely taken two steps when a business van drove past her and pulled neatly into a parking space.
Yvonne Lowell and Lana Chandler got out of the car one after the other.
"Take the elevator straight to the third floor. The makeup artist and stylist are waiting."
"Thank you for everything, Miss Lana."
The two turned and were both startled to see Roya Winters.
"What are you doing here?" Lana Chandler’s brow furrowed.
Roya Winters’s expression darkened. "I’m the Vaudin spokesperson, so naturally, I should be here. But Yvonne Lowell, what is *she* doing here?"
"Are you mistaken? The Vaudin spokesperson... since when was that you?"
"You clearly told me the other day that the endorsement had been decided..."
"I never said the person they decided on was you."
The color drained from Roya Winters’s face. "If it’s not me, is it... her?"
"You guessed right. It’s Yvonne Lowell." Lana Chandler glanced aside and instructed, "Hurry up and go upstairs."
Seeing they were about to leave, Roya Winters immediately stepped forward to block their path.
"Miss Lana, you must be mistaken! Elena clearly favored me before. How could she possibly choose Yvonne Lowell?"
"The Vice President of the exclusive agency for Vaudin Asia-Pacific personally named Yvonne Lowell as the spokesperson. President Rivers is also aware of this. Roya Winters, stop making a scene."
Roya Winters simply couldn’t accept it. She shot a venomous glare at Yvonne Lowell.
"Bitch! How dare you steal my endorsement!"
With that, she lunged forward to attack.
Lana Chandler grabbed her by the wrist, her eyes sharp and cold. "Roya Winters, what do you mean, ’yours’? Before the contract is signed, anyone has a chance. Yvonne, you go upstairs first. Don’t be late."
Yvonne Lowell nodded and hurried toward the elevator.
"Finn, stop her!" Unable to break free, Roya Winters shrieked at her agent in a rage.
Finn Summers hesitated, glancing at Lana Chandler with apprehension.
Seeing Yvonne Lowell about to step into the elevator, Roya Winters was on the verge of losing control.
"What are you standing there for?! Don’t forget who you work for!"
Just as Finn Summers was about to move, Lana Chandler spoke calmly.
"Finn, if you make a move today, you don’t have to come to Starlight tomorrow. Think carefully about whether you can bear the wrath of President Rivers."
Those words froze Finn Summers on the spot.
Offending Roya Winters meant, at worst, finding a new artist to manage. But offending Zane Rivers would mean she would have no future in the industry.
Only when the elevator doors slowly closed did Lana Chandler release her grip, her tone icy.
"Roya Winters, you’ve had it easy for the past few years. Do you really think you can do whatever you want, that you’re above everyone else?"
"Miss Lana! This endorsement was supposed to be mine! Do you have any idea how long I’ve waited for this?"
She had planned to use this opportunity to break into the international market, but now all her hopes had turned to dust.
’Why should that bitch Yvonne Lowell get to reap the benefits?’
"You should ask yourself who you’ve offended." Lana Chandler was expressionless. "Do you know who holds the agency rights for Vaudin Asia-Pacific?"
"Who?"
"Grayson Corporation."
Roya Winters froze, her mind flashing back to the times she had run into Vesper Grayson at Vaudin’s offices. Her face went deathly pale, and she staggered backward.
"How could it be her..."
"Why do you think she went to Starlight that day?" Lana Chandler sneered. "You couldn’t control your own temper and just happened to be seen by President Grayson. Who can you blame?"
"Even so, she shouldn’t have given the endorsement to Yvonne Lowell over something so trivial!"
"Just because Elena had a good impression of you doesn’t mean she had the final say. Why don’t you think about it? Was the first time you met her really a coincidence?"
Roya Winters was speechless.
"She was observing you, but you lost out to your own stupidity. You threw this opportunity away with your own hands, so what’s the point of complaining and blaming others now?"
Roya Winters swayed, then lunged forward and grabbed Lana Chandler’s arm desperately.
"Miss Lana, for old times’ sake, please help me! I really can’t lose this opportunity!"
"Sorry, I can’t help you." Lana Chandler pulled her arm away. "Instead of begging me, you’d be better off begging President Rivers."
With that, she turned and walked away.
Roya Winters came to her senses and frantically dialed Zane Rivers’s number, but no one answered.
Her once-innocent face slowly contorted with rage.
’It shouldn’t be like this.’
’What I can’t have, that bitch Yvonne Lowell doesn’t deserve to have either!’
She whipped her head around to look at Finn Summers, her voice sinister.
"Tell me, if Yvonne Lowell had an... accident... do you think this endorsement could still be hers?"
