Chapter 117: Chapter 117: It Seems... It’s Her

The color drained from Vesper Grayson’s face, and she instinctively ran toward the stairs.

But it all happened too fast. Just as she reached the landing, Yvonne Lowell had already crashed down heavily at her feet.

She lay curled up on the floor, her body trembling with pain. Her face was ashen, her forehead instantly slick with cold sweat. A muffled groan escaped her lips as she looked down at her ankle, which was twisted at an unnatural angle.

Vesper suppressed her alarm, quickly kneeling to steady her. Her voice was calm.

"Don’t move. Whatever you do, don’t touch the injury."

She turned and spoke in a low, urgent voice to Dolly Hughes behind her. "Call 911 right now! Get an ambulance! And notify the hotel to lock down all entrances and exits immediately. Don’t let anyone suspicious leave!"

Dolly Hughes nodded. "I’m on it."

Watching this from the shadows, Roya Winters’s lips curled into a faint smile.

’This is what you get for trying to steal my endorsement deal!’

She quietly slipped away to meet up with Finn Summers.

They had planned to leave through the parking garage, but security blocked their path.

"Sorry, the hotel is on temporary lockdown. No one can leave for the time being!"

Finn Summers’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, and she shot a panicked look at Roya Winters.

"Do you know who I am? How dare you stop me." She took off her sunglasses, revealing her face.

"I don’t care who you are. No one leaves until the investigation is over."

The guard’s attitude was firm and uncompromising.

Roya Winters had no choice but to tell her to turn the car around.

"Roya, what do we do?!"

"No one saw you, did they?"

"No..."

"Then what are you afraid of? So she fell. That just means she was careless. What does it have to do with you?!"

’With Yvonne Lowell injured, she definitely can’t sign the contract today. As long as I push for it, the endorsement will be mine.’

Roya Winters shot her a sidelong glance.

"What are you so nervous about? Don’t you dare give the game away, or there’s nothing I can do to help you."

"Once I sign the contract with Grayson Corporation, I’ll pay off your brother’s debt."

...

Vesper calmed the guests and asked Elena to help tend to them.

Gwen Grayson and Milton Grayson also pitched in to help.

Once the situation was under control, she took a staff member to inspect the spot where Yvonne Lowell had fallen.

"President Grayson, someone coated the steps with a layer of colorless lubricant. It’s very hard to see, and makes them incredibly slippery."

Vesper’s eyes darkened.

’This was deliberate, not an accident.’

"To the security room."

’To dare pull a stunt at my banquet... I don’t care who it is, they won’t get away with it!’

After pulling up the footage, they discovered the staircase was in a camera’s blind spot. Nothing had been recorded, and the investigation hit a dead end.

The hotel manager said, "President Grayson, the culprit must have known that was a blind spot, which is why they were so bold. I’ll have my staff pull the footage from all the hotel’s entrances, exits, and corridors to check for anyone who entered or left the stairwell around that time. We’ll be sure to find them."

"Thank you for your trouble."

But the banquet was crowded, and she couldn’t risk offending the guests. Most of them were prominent figures who were unlikely to have a grudge against a celebrity.

As Vesper watched the surveillance feed, she spotted two people who were not on the invitation list.

Roya Winters and her agent, Finn Summers.

"Go get Mr. Chandler and bring him here."

A few moments later, Lana Chandler arrived.

"President Grayson, you were looking for me?"

"Mr. Chandler, these two weren’t on my invitation list. Did you bring them here?"

Lana Chandler’s gaze fell on the figures on the screen, and she paused. "I ran into them in the parking garage on my way in. I assumed you had invited them, President Grayson."

"I didn’t."

"She probably came to the banquet thinking she was Vaudin’s new spokesperson. However, I’ve already told her that she is not the one chosen as the Vaudin Asia-Pacific brand ambassador."

"Then how did she get into the banquet hall?"

"Well... she must have come in with someone else. I didn’t bring her in, so this has nothing to do with me."

She immediately distanced herself, afraid she’d be implicated.

"Do you think Yvonne Lowell’s injury has anything to do with them?"

"I’m not sure..."

Zane Rivers frowned. "Where are they? Find them and bring them here."

Soon, Roya Winters and Finn Summers were brought over.

"President Rivers, you were looking for me?"

Roya Winters’s face lit up when she saw Zane Rivers, and she started toward him, only to falter when she saw his ice-cold expression.

"Who told you to come here?"

"I thought I was the Vaudin brand ambassador, so I just..." Roya Winters’s eyes reddened. "Elena told me before that she was leaning toward me..."

"The company makes an official announcement to confirm its brand ambassador. If you weren’t notified, it means you weren’t chosen. Do you not even understand a simple rule like that?" Zane Rivers’s gaze was sharp, his voice like ice.

Roya Winters’s eyes instantly turned red, and tears streamed down her face as she choked out her words, aggrieved.

"I... I wasn’t thinking... I’m sorry..."

Vesper narrowed her eyes and asked coldly, "Miss Winters, do you have anything to do with Yvonne Lowell’s injury?"

"President Grayson, you’ve got it all wrong! I’ve been in the main hall downstairs the entire time. I haven’t gone anywhere. You can check the surveillance footage if you don’t believe me."

She looked innocent and terrified, like a delicate, pure white lotus.

Vesper had just watched the footage. Roya Winters had indeed been in the main hall the entire time, aside from one trip to the restroom.

Vesper’s gaze shifted to Finn Summers, standing behind her.

"And you, Miss Summers?"

Finn Summers said, "I was also in the hall, sitting on a bench in the corner by the emergency exit. I didn’t go anywhere the entire time."

The manager whispered, "Miss Grayson, the camera in that location broke down yesterday. We haven’t had a chance to repair it yet..."

’What a coincidence.’

Vesper’s gaze was sharp. "How can you prove you were there the whole time?" she asked coldly.

"The surveillance camera was broken, so I have no way to prove it. President Grayson, surely you don’t suspect me?" Finn Summers said anxiously. "I have no grudge against Yvonne Lowell, nor is there any conflict of interest. I have no reason to hurt her."

Just then, Jared Hawthorne strode over.

He was followed by his assistant, Maxim Chandler, and a waiter.

Maxim Chandler shot Finn a look. "Take a look," he said to the waiter. "See if the person you saw is here."

Vesper raised an eyebrow, her gaze landing on the waiter.

Roya Winters’s fingers clenched tightly.

Panic seized Finn Summers.

The waiter stepped forward, scanned the group, and then his gaze locked onto Finn Summers. He raised a hand and pointed.

"I think... it was her."

"While I was cleaning the second floor, I passed by the top of the stairs a few times and saw a woman loitering suspiciously on the landing..."

"A woman with short hair. Her hairstyle is the same."

The color drained from Finn Summers’s face. "What nonsense are you spouting?" she said hurriedly. "Plenty of people have short hair. How can you be sure it was me?"

"I can’t be one hundred percent certain, because at the time, the person was wearing a staff uniform. But none of the female staff at our hotel have short hair. That’s exactly why I took a closer look. I saw her go into the second-floor changing room afterward..."

’There definitely wouldn’t be cameras in the changing room.’

Finn Summers, who had been holding her breath, relaxed slightly.

"That still doesn’t prove it was me! I’m not the only one here tonight with short hair."

Roya Winters nodded and added in a gentle voice, "I believe Finn. She would never do something so pointlessly malicious! Maybe Yvonne Lowell just isn’t very popular and offended someone who wanted to embarrass her."

"President Grayson," Maxim Chandler interjected, "I just inspected the lubricant on the stairs. While it’s colorless and odorless, this particular type turns white on contact with alcohol. It’s also very difficult to wash off the skin."

At Maxim Chandler’s words, the color drained from Finn Summers’s face. She instinctively jerked her hands behind her back.
