My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable
Chapter 69: Out with the Old, In with the NewChapter 69: Chapter 69: Out with the Old, In with the New
Vesper Grayson took the form and glanced at it.
Two hundred million!
"Do you have any idea how much liquid capital the company has? You waltz in here wanting to buy two hundred million worth of raw stones?"
"I spent a whole month negotiating this deal, talking until I was blue in the face to get the lowest possible price. No matter how you slice it, the company can afford two hundred million!" Gwen Grayson said impatiently. "All you have to do is sign. Are you afraid I’ll close this deal? Afraid I’ll outshine you, so you’re deliberately stonewalling me?"
Vesper Grayson looked up, her gaze calm.
"Stonewalling you? Gwen Grayson, get this straight. This isn’t a few thousand dollars; it’s two hundred million. You haven’t even bothered to ask about the company’s liquid capital or the level of risk, yet you’re confidently demanding a wire transfer?"
"The seller is a well-known mine owner in the industry. If we miss out on this batch of material, we’ll never get another chance!"
"Is there an authoritative appraisal report, a third-party guarantee, a complete contract, and a risk mitigation clause?"
Gwen Grayson’s expression froze. She reluctantly admitted, "There’s an authoritative appraisal report."
"Only one? How do we know it’s not a fake?" Vesper Grayson pushed the application form back, her tone indifferent. "I can’t approve this deal. If something goes wrong, that two hundred million will go right down the drain."
"Stop fearmongering. You just want to pour all the company’s liquid capital into that exclusive Vaudin Asia-Pacific distributorship you just landed. You’re deliberately blocking my raw stone purchase so your project has money to burn!"
Gwen Grayson was fuming. "You’re just selfish! You can’t stand to see anyone do better than you!"
Vesper Grayson’s eyes turned cold. "The Vaudin project was formally established by the group and unanimously approved by the board of directors as a strategic initiative. Every single cent is accounted for. Your two-hundred-million-dollar deal, on the other hand, is a huge risk. Can you afford to make that bet?"
"Fortune favors the bold! What doesn’t have risks? You can even choke to death while eating," Gwen Grayson retorted. "Stop making up excuses to reject me!"
"I can’t be bothered with you."
Since she couldn’t get through to her, there was no point in wasting any more time.
"Vesper Grayson, don’t you dare leave!"
"If you’re so capable, go get Dad to approve your request. I’m not paying for your stupidity."
She walked into the elevator without a backward glance.
Watching the elevator doors close, Gwen Grayson bit her lip, her eyes filled with rage.
"Vesper Grayson, do you think I’m helpless just because you won’t approve it? I will make this deal happen!"
...
「The Splendor Hall.」
Northolme’s most prestigious haute couture qipao shop.
It wasn’t on a main street, nor was it ostentatious, but was instead hidden away in a standalone building deep within an alley.
The interior decor was elegant and understated, without a trace of gaudy finery.
Sandalwood curio shelves displayed rare fabrics like embroidery, goldwork, and Kesi silk tapestry, every stitch the work of master artisans.
The lighting was soft, with the faint scent of agarwood incense wafting through the air. Each qipao hung silently like a work of art, with meticulous attention to every detail, from the fabric and cut to the knotted buttons and trim.
It was one of Vesper Grayson’s sources of income over the years.
Eve Garland was tapping at a calculator behind the counter when she heard the wind chime on the door. Her lovely eyes flickered open, a hint of surprise in them, as the corners of her lips curved into a delighted smile.
"Boss, it’s been a while."
"It has been a while. You’re looking more radiant than ever, Eve."
Eve Garland made her a cup of coffee, and the two sat down at a table by the window.
"What brings you back? Are you here with Luke Lockwood to visit family?"
Six months ago, she had taken a business trip to Ashmore and met up with her boss.
She’d heard Luke Lockwood’s company was doing well and that they were getting married soon.
Unfortunately, she had never received an invitation from her boss.
Vesper Grayson lifted her coffee and took a sip. A faint bitterness spread through her mouth, and a similar feeling welled up in her heart.
"We broke up."
Eve Garland was stunned. "What happened? Weren’t you two doing really well?" she pressed.
"It’s a bit of a cliché. He cheated."
Thinking about it now, Vesper felt more relief than bitterness.
"Fucking hell!" Eve Garland swore. "He has a five-star meal at home but insists on eating garbage outside. What a despicable bastard!"
Vesper Grayson gave a cool, faint smile. "Perhaps that’s just a man’s base nature."
’In the end, Luke Lockwood was just an ordinary man!’
"Well, out with the old, in with the new. It’s a good thing you saw his true colors before the wedding. It’s not too late." Eve Garland’s expression was complicated. "Boss, you deserve a better man."
"I think so too, which is why I found an upgrade." She took another sip of her coffee. After the bitterness, a mellow, sweet aftertaste bloomed on her tongue.
Eve Garland’s eyes widened. She joked, "He’s not another charity case this time, is he?"
Vesper Grayson raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "I won’t fall into the same trap twice."
"Good. You’re too smart for that, Boss. You can’t be making losing deals like that!" Something occurred to Eve, and she couldn’t help but feel a wave of relief. ’At least she didn’t let Luke have his way with her.’
’Otherwise, how disgusted would her boss be?’
Vesper Grayson, unaware of her thoughts, gave a gentle instruction, "A few wealthy ladies will be here soon. Go ahead and bring out the stock."
"Okay."
Eve Garland didn’t ask any more questions and immediately turned to go upstairs and retrieve the reserved stock.
Just a moment later, Mrs. Spencer entered, leading several elegantly dressed ladies with an air of refined dignity.
Vesper Grayson rose to greet them, her demeanor graceful and poised, her propriety impeccable. "Mrs. Spencer, ladies, welcome."
Mrs. Spencer looked around, a gentle smile on her face. "It’s always so elegant and tranquil here. It really puts one at ease."
Just then, Eve Garland came down from the stairs holding several qipaos. She immediately spotted a familiar face in the crowd and called out with a smile, "Mrs. Langley?"
"Eve," Mrs. Langley came forward with a smile, her tone familiar. "Any new styles in the shop recently?"
"You’ve come at the perfect time. We just finished a new batch, and every piece is exquisite." Eve Garland’s eyes crinkled with her smile as she guided her over to Vesper Grayson. "And our boss is here today, too. Boss, this is Mrs. Langley. She’s one of our most loyal patrons."
Vesper Grayson gave a faint, polite nod. "Thank you for your continued patronage, Mrs. Langley."
"I never imagined the owner behind The Splendor Hall was Miss Grayson." Mrs. Langley’s tone was both enthusiastic and respectful. "So young and accomplished, and so modest about it!"
The other ladies chimed in, echoing Mrs. Langley’s sentiments.
"Well, just look at whose girlfriend Miss Grayson is. How could President Hawthorne’s taste be anything but excellent?" Mrs. Spencer’s smile grew even warmer.
Vesper Grayson knew they were acting this way on account of Jared Hawthorne. She smiled faintly, her composure perfect. "You’re all too kind. It’s just a small business. I’m grateful for your support."
Thanks to Jared Hawthorne’s influence, combined with the top-tier craftsmanship of the qipaos, the wealthy ladies were happy to show their support. After trying on a few, they bought seven or eight pieces from the stock and placed orders for a dozen more custom-made qipaos.
In just one hour, they had brought in several million.
’This money really is easy to make.’
"Well, well, it’s certainly lively in here. Garland, with business this good today, you must be making a killing, huh?"
The shop door was pushed open from the outside. A gaudily dressed, arrogant-looking woman strode in with two brawny lackeys. Her eyes swept over the distinguished guests and the walls of haute couture qipaos, unconcealed jealousy flashing in their depths.
