Chapter 70: Chapter 70: I’ll Carry You Through
Seeing who it was, Eve Garland took a step forward, her expression instantly turning cold.
"Lily Lloyd, are you here to cause trouble again? Wasn’t the lesson you learned last time enough?"
Lily Lloyd was the owner of another cheongsam shop across the street. She had always been jealous of The Splendor Hall’s booming business and would come looking for trouble every other day. The last time, after Eve Garland got off work, Lily’s younger brother had harassed her in public. In the end, not only did he fail to take advantage of her, but Eve turned the tables and had him sent to the police station.
Ever since the day Eve Garland adamantly refused to sign a settlement agreement, Lily Lloyd had held a bitter grudge. She started coming by to pick fights in all sorts of ways and spread rumors everywhere to ruin Eve’s reputation.
"Eve Garland, if it weren’t for you, my brother would never have been locked up!" Lily Lloyd’s face was contorted with rage, her voice sharp and piercing. "This isn’t over!"
Eve Garland looked up, her expression as cold as ice. "What do you want?"
"To get my brother out, of course, and for you to pay us five hundred thousand in emotional damages!" she demanded shamelessly, as if completely justified.
"In your dreams," Eve Garland scoffed, her eyes filled with disdain.
Completely enraged by her attitude, Lily Lloyd’s gaze swept over the several richly dressed, wealthy women in the shop. She immediately raised her voice to disrupt the scene. "Everyone, this shop is closed for the day! All of you, get out now!"
It was clear she intended to cause a scene in public.
Vesper Grayson walked over slowly and asked in a low voice, "Eve Garland, what’s going on?"
Eve Garland didn’t dare to hide anything and quickly explained the situation in a few words.
"Ma’am, this is Lily Lloyd, the owner of the cheongsam shop on the next street. Her younger brother harassed me before, and I had him sent to a detention center. She’s held a grudge ever since, and she’s jealous of The Splendor Hall’s business, so she keeps coming here to cause trouble."
"Why have I never heard you mention this?" Vesper Grayson’s gaze darkened slightly.
"You were in Ashmore, and I didn’t want to bother you with such a small matter," Eve Garland replied in a low voice.
She just hadn’t expected Lily Lloyd to deliberately choose the one day her boss was in the shop to come and act so outrageously.
Vesper Grayson’s eyes turned cold. She gave Lily Lloyd a cool glance and said, "The Splendor Hall is open for business. It’s not your place to drive my customers away."
Lily Lloyd was taken aback for a moment by the sudden, intimidating aura Vesper projected, but she quickly resumed her tirade. "Who are you? This is between me and Eve Garland. What gives you the right to butt in?"
"I’m the owner of this shop, Vesper Grayson." Her voice wasn’t loud, but each word was crystal clear. "Harassment, public disturbance, slander, extortion... The security cameras in this shop have clearly recorded every single word you’ve just said."
"You’re the owner of this shop?" Lily Lloyd looked at her in disbelief. She had been jealous of The Splendor Hall’s success and, seeing that Eve Garland was attractive, had plotted for her brother to get his hands on Eve so they could seize the shop for themselves. She never imagined The Splendor Hall had a different owner!
"Is there a problem?"
"Since you’re the owner, you should control your employee! Eve Garland is shameless herself, dressing up all flashy every day and flaunting herself around. She’s the one who deliberately seduced my brother and wouldn’t let him go, and now she has the nerve to turn around and frame him, getting him locked up!" Lily Lloyd sneered. "I don’t think The Splendor Hall sells cheongsams at all. It’s a place that teaches women how to be sluts! If you don’t give me an explanation today, I’ll let everyone know just how despicable your employees are!"
The words were so vulgar they were sickening. Furious, Eve Garland strode forward and slapped her across the face.
"Lily Lloyd, you must have a death wish!"
The two of them started grappling with each other, and the scene descended into chaos. However, Lily Lloyd was no match for Eve Garland and was beaten so badly she couldn’t fight back. As Lily dodged, she angrily yelled at the two men she had brought with her.
"Are you two dead? Get over here and help me! Beat this bitch to death!"
The two men snapped to their senses and were about to jump in. Seeing that Eve Garland was about to be at a disadvantage, Vesper Grayson’s eyes turned sharp and cold, and she strode forward.
"This is a private dispute between them. The moment you join in, you become accomplices in causing a public disturbance! My shop has security cameras. Do you want to get locked up too?"
Her voice wasn’t loud, but every word was clear. Hearing this, the two men looked at each other, hesitating for a long moment, not daring to get involved.
Ten minutes later, Eve Garland brushed a clump of hair from her palm. Lily Lloyd was collapsed on the floor, slapping her thighs and wailing dramatically.
"Assault! The Splendor Hall is beating people up! Is there no law and order anymore?!"
Vesper Grayson frowned, strode forward, and kicked Lily’s shoulder, her voice piercingly cold.
"You can curse me, and you can curse Eve Garland. But you should not have opened your mouth and spewed such filth to humiliate my guests!"
"Every one of the ladies in my shop is a person of standing. I will not tolerate you maliciously slandering them here. Your actions today—smearing my shop’s name and offending my honored guests—will not be so easily forgotten."
When had these wealthy women ever been cursed at like this? Their expressions had long since turned grim and ugly, their gazes toward Lily Lloyd filled with contempt and disgust.
"A true gutter shrew, spewing nothing but filth. Simply unreasonable!"
"Coming to someone else’s shop in broad daylight to spread rumors and extort them. Has she no shame!"
"In all my years, I’ve never seen someone so brutish and unreasonable!"
Each cold rebuke landed with condescending disdain, making Lily Lloyd’s shrewish, pathetic display seem all the more unbearable to watch.
Mrs. Spencer took out her phone and directly dialed a number, her tone leaving no room for argument. "Hello, send some people over to The Splendor Hall. Someone is deliberately causing a public disturbance and disrupting business."
The police arrived extremely quickly. Officers from the local precinct had rushed over as soon as they received the report.
Lily Lloyd, who had still been on the floor acting shamelessly, heard the sirens and her face instantly turned white as a sheet. Panic seized her.
She knew she had really stirred up a hornet’s nest this time. She scrambled up from the floor and, keeping her head down, tried to sneak out through the side door.
But just as she took a step, she was blocked by the people guarding the door.
The lead officer walked briskly into the shop, his gaze sweeping across the scene to take in the situation. He then gave Mrs. Spencer a polite and serious nod.
"Mrs. Spencer."
Mrs. Spencer’s expression was cool. She looked up at the lead officer and explained the situation simply and clearly.
"This woman has repeatedly come here to cause trouble, engage in extortion, and publicly spread rumors to slander this shop and its customers. There’s security footage of the entire incident, and we have both witnesses and physical evidence. She must be dealt with severely!"
Hearing this, the officer understood the situation completely.
"Rest assured, ma’am. We will verify the facts and will not be lenient. We won’t let her get away with poisoning the social atmosphere!"
Afterward, Lily Lloyd was taken to the police station.
Lily Lloyd was finally scared. She tried to struggle and beg for mercy, but the officers flanked her, took her by the arms, and led her away.
The shop door closed again, and quiet returned to The Splendor Hall.
Vesper Grayson sighed helplessly. "My apologies for the scene, ladies. I haven’t been to the shop in so long, I had no idea Eve Garland had been suffering so much. And to think you were all dragged into this and insulted for no reason..."
Eve Garland said, "Ma’am, I’m fine!"
Mrs. Spencer replied, "Don’t you worry, Miss Grayson. I’ll handle this. I guarantee she won’t dare to come here again."
"Then thank you very much, Mrs. Spencer," Vesper Grayson said with a slight nod. "Eve Garland, go get those new double-sided embroidered fans and give them to the ladies as a small token of my appreciation."
