Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Will Never Transfer

If she could secure this shipment, the profits would be dozens of times over, at the very least.

With this money, her own value would soar. From now on, everyone would have to look at her with new respect!

No one was going to stop her from making this money!

Milton Grayson stared at her in disbelief, frozen to the spot.

He’d never imagined his daughter could be so defiant, completely deaf to reason and hell-bent on having her own way.

Vesper Grayson stepped forward, her gaze perfectly calm. "Gwen, that money is yours, and how you spend it is your choice. But you need to think this through. Once you sink that money in, if it all goes down the drain, it’s gone for good."

"No one is going to bail you out for being reckless. By then, it’ll be too late for tears."

Two hundred million wasn’t a staggering sum, but it was every penny Joyce Rivers had scraped together—her entire net worth.

"Stop your fear-mongering!" Gwen sneered, already blinded by greed and deaf to all reason.

Warren Childs chose that moment to hold out the tablet, his smile unwavering. "Miss Grayson, don’t let irrelevant people interfere with our business. Time is of the essence."

Just as Gwen’s hand was about to touch the tablet, Vesper spoke again.

"Wait!"

"Vesper, don’t even think about stopping me!"

"Look at this. If you still think I’m just fear-mongering after you’ve read it, then do whatever you want."

Vesper held out her phone, displaying the information she had just received.

Gwen hesitated for a moment before finally taking the phone. Her expression turned ugly the moment she saw what was on the screen.

Her once-unwavering trust in Warren Childs suddenly fractured, and for a moment, she didn’t know who to believe.

Warren Childs’s eyes narrowed dangerously as he fanned the flames. "Miss Grayson, don’t forget that you and your sister are arch-rivals. No one wants to see this deal fall through more than she does."

’That’s right, we’re the biggest rivals. I can’t fall for Vesper’s trick!’

But the information was there in black and white, clearly showing evidence that the ore was illegally mined and carried an extremely high risk. It couldn’t have been faked.

"Dad, let’s go!"

Vesper took back her phone and said to Milton, her expression unreadable. "She’s an adult. She should be responsible for her own choices."

Anything more she said would only make Gwen think she had ulterior motives.

Milton took one last, long look at the obstinate Gwen and sighed heavily. "We’ve said all that can be said. Since she’s determined to do this..."

He left the sentence unfinished, but the disappointment hanging in the air was palpable.

As she watched them turn and leave, Gwen clenched her fists so tightly her knuckles turned white.

Not until their figures had completely vanished from the doorway did she finally grit her teeth and make a decision.

"Childs, I don’t want the shipment. You can sell it to someone else."

She set the tablet down and turned to chase after them.

In the next second, the warmth in Warren Childs’s eyes vanished. His expression turned to ice as he subtly gave his men a look.

Gwen had just reached the door when two burly men blocked her way.

She spun around. "President Childs, what is the meaning of this?"

"Miss Grayson, I, Warren Childs, have been in business for decades, and I have never been played for a fool like this!" Childs lit a cigarette, his tone sinister. "You were the one who said you wanted this shipment, so I turned away other buyers."

"Today, you will pay for this shipment and take it!"

"Are you trying to force this sale?" Gwen’s mind was reeling, but she forced herself to appear calm. "Until a deal is finalized, I have the right to change my mind!"

While she had been skeptical of Vesper’s information before, seeing how quickly Childs’s demeanor had changed, she was now 99 percent sure it was true.

’If this shipment was really a surefire profit, why would he have trouble selling it?’

Childs sneered at her naivety, speaking with blatant confidence. "There are no take-backs here. If you don’t transfer the money today, Miss Grayson, you’re not going anywhere."

"Coercion, intimidation, and unlawful confinement are all illegal. Are you planning on knowingly breaking the law, President Childs?" Gwen shot back, trying once more to walk out.

The goons at the door didn’t budge. Two more men rushed down from the stairs, completely surrounding her.

Panic flashed across her face, but she put on a brave front. "What do you think you’re doing?"

"Miss Grayson, business is best done amicably. I don’t want to make things difficult for you, so don’t force my hand." Childs walked up to her with the tablet, offering it with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. "Transfer the money, and you can leave with the shipment."

"I will never transfer it!"

Gwen violently swung her arm, and the tablet crashed to the floor.

Childs’s face darkened completely. He raised his hand and brought it down in a vicious slap.

SLAP—

The sharp sound of the slap echoed through the room. The force of it sent Gwen stumbling to the ground, head spinning, as her cheek began to swell at a visible rate.

Her mind went blank. She was completely stunned.

Childs’s icy voice rang in her ears. "Hurry up and give the tablet back to Miss Grayson."

One of his men immediately picked up the tablet and held it out to Gwen again.

"I’m not transferring it! Warren Childs, you dare to lay a hand on me? I’ll make you pay for this!"

As the pampered second daughter of the Grayson Family, she had been arrogant and willful, living a charmed life for over a decade. When had she ever been treated with such humiliation?

"Oh? I’d love to see how you’ll make me pay." Childs scoffed, his eyes filled with contempt. "The Grayson Family? I’ve never given them a second thought."

"I’ll kill you!"

Gwen struggled to her feet and charged forward, swinging her fists like a madwoman.

A vicious glint flashed in Childs’s eyes as he mercilessly kicked her in the stomach.

Gwen flew backward like a broken doll, clutching her stomach. Her face was ashen, and she couldn’t get back up.

"Since Miss Grayson is unwilling to cooperate, she can be my guest here for a while. Let me know when you’ve thought it through."

「Meanwhile, the car drove steadily on.」

Aaron Sawyer kept glancing into the rearview mirror, hesitating before he finally couldn’t help but ask, "President Grayson, Miss Grayson, are we really just going to leave Gwen behind?"

Warren Childs was ruthless, and he was not a good man.

Although Gwen was spoiled and willful, always competing with her older sister, she wasn’t rotten to the core. She wasn’t a lost cause.

"We said everything we could, and she’s still completely deluded. Why should we bother with her?" Milton’s face was dark as he hardened his heart. "Leave her be. Let her reap what she sows! She’ll never learn a lesson until she suffers the consequences!"

Vesper sat beside him, not saying a word.

When Joyce Rivers saw the two of them return home early, a flicker of panic crossed her eyes before she forced herself to look calm. "Honey, why are you back so early? Did something happen?"

"A doting mother raises a spoiled child. Why are you asking when you already know the answer?"

Milton didn’t give her a pleasant look. He just snorted coldly and walked straight past her.

"Gwen has been at the company for three years and has never made a major mistake! As her parents, we should support her! You can show favoritism, but I can’t!" Joyce hurried to catch up, her face tense as she retorted.

"Warren Childs is a cunning old fox. How could Gwen possibly be a match for him? Just you wait. That two hundred million is going to be a total loss." Milton couldn’t be bothered to say more and headed upstairs without a backward glance.

Joyce was filled with resentment, muttering to herself, ’Total loss? Can’t he wish for something good for his own daughter for once?’

"Miss Joyce, there’s still a chance to fix this. You should call Gwen right now, or it’ll be too late," Vesper said coolly, her tone calm. "I found some information and sent it to your phone. You should take a look when you have a moment."

Over the years, although Joyce and Gwen had constantly ostracized and targeted her, they had never abused her or caused any real harm.

They were still family, and in the end, she couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.

Joyce watched her walk away, rolled her eyes in disdain, and casually opened the file Vesper had sent.

But when she saw the contents of the document, her expression changed drastically. It was as if the blood had frozen in her veins.
